87 Aren’t You Too Humble?
Ji Zhao, who had been dealt a blow, had been depressed.
When night fell, she was still sitting on the wicker chair in the courtyard, staring blankly into the dark night sky.
“I want to go for a walk. Do you want to come with me?” Shen Yao sensed her low spirits and walked to her side with a smile.
“Sure!” Ji Zhao readily agreed.
A cool breeze blew, and the air was filled with the elegant fragrance of flowers.
Ji Zhao narrowed her eyes and walked forward, quietly enjoying the comfort of the cool breeze.
The haze that lingered in her heart seemed to have been swept away.
“Shen Yao, do you know how to sing?” Ji Zhao suddenly stopped in his tracks and looked at Shen Yao curiously.
“Singing?” Shen Yao shook his head in shock. “I’m not good with music.”
“Alright.” Ji Zhao shrugged her shoulders in disappointment.
“You want to hear me sing?”
“Mm.” Ji Zhao nodded lightly.
Shen Yao frowned awkwardly. He was really not familiar with music.
He thought for a moment and picked up a leaf from the ground. After wiping it clean, he brought it to his lips.
A rhythmic voice slowly flowed out from his lips.
Unknowingly, Ji Zhao was intoxicated.
“Is this what you meant by not being good at music?” Ji Zhao held her forehead helplessly. “Shen Yao, aren’t you being too humble?”
“I don’t know many songs.” Shen Yao smiled calmly. “Do you like the song just now?”
“It’s very nice,” Ji Zhao said with a sincere smile.
Shen Yao smiled happily and made a decision in his heart. He had to learn a few more songs.
Unknowingly, the two of them arrived near the Earth Temple.
Ji Zhao immediately bowed and walked in. She picked up an incense stick from the side of the shrine platform, lit it, and inserted it into the incense burner. Then, she piously knelt in front of the statue of the Earth God.
“This is your devotee, Ji Zhao. I’m here to pay my respects to you, Earth God.”
Ji Zhao had been saving up money recently. When she had enough money, she wanted to remodel the statue of the Earth God.
“Ah Tao, it’s getting late. Shall we go back?” Shen Yao asked softly after fifteen minutes.
However, Ji Zhao, who was kneeling on the futon, did not seem to hear his voice. Instead, her eyes were closed tightly—
Under the dim candlelight, he saw that Ji Zhao’s face was covered in sweat!
“Ah Tao? Are you alright?” Shen Yao’s heart sank. Just as he was about to help her up from the ground, he realized that her weight was all leaning down.
Shen Yao anxiously wanted to help her up, but Ji Zhao seemed to be frozen and could not move at all!
At that moment, Ji Zhao seemed to have been pulled into a dark vortex!
In the vortex formed by the huge waves, she could not make a sound, let alone struggle!
Just as she was puzzled, a familiar face suddenly appeared in front of her.
Father?
Shen Dashan was completely surrounded by the vortex. His face was weak, pale, and bloodless!
Ji Zhao tried her best to save him, but she was already like a clay Buddha crossing a river. She could not even protect herself—
Water gushed into her seven orifices. The pressing pressure almost made her suffocate!
After an unknown period of time, the exhausted Ji Zhao suddenly heard painful cries!
Mother and her two sisters-in-law hugged each other and cried until they were out of breath!
Eldest Brother, Second Brother, and Shen Yao were all kneeling in front of a fresh grave—
There was a tombstone in front of the grave. The name carved on it was Shen Dashan!
Ji Zhao’s heart suddenly sank to the bottom, and tears unknowingly fell.
