Chapter 44:A husband learns more about his duties...

Gestured by the beautiful lady by the desk, Kyoya came closer. He was doing his best to not look at her body, so unbeknown to him, another desk and chair appeared next to the lady. She took it out of nowhere, then presented it to him.

"Sit."

"Yes."

Following her was the only common thing for Kyoya to do. He was in another world, the world that was filled with souls. The question is what do they do with the souls? The husband himself is the soul right now, so why is he working?

Why is his form intact and consciousness clear?

"This is your pen. Since it's your first day, you only have to confirm two things - the belief and origins of the souls."

"..."

Kyoya's face distorted gloomily. He was already expected to work, but looking at the paper in front of him, his eyes couldn't discern the strange glyphs which should be letters. The system was not helping him at all and it seemed as if trying to tease him.

[Ask the lady.]

Of course, he would ask if needed. But wasn't he already failing at the first task? Kyoya found himself red and embarrassed from this fact alone. And whether luckily or not, the lady next to him noticed that uneasiness.

"How is that possible? Ask Xaya's familiar, you should be able to read these letters."

"I am not her familiar, I am Xaya's husband."

"Either way, you should be able to read these."

Nothing more could be brought out from Kyoya as he was too green in magic, divine duties, and even his archery. He just looked down anxiously, but inwardly, Kyoya confirmed that the death god is actually someone related to Xaya.

So he couldn't possibly fail his tasks here.

Maybe this is a trial or test!

"If that's the case, then learning sessions is needed..."

The lady glanced at the row of souls, then after her eyes verified that its numbers were small, she told Kyoya to wait for her to end her current task. Just like that, a few days passed. Kyoya was extremely bored and as time became imperceptible, the husband finally noticed the signs of her task ending.

The pen dissipated into mere dark green particles, then the lady slid her chair through the tiles.

"Follow me."

"Yes."

Her name was Vera, but Kyoya had no way of knowing that. Left only to his assumptions, Kyoya could only assume that the lady is purposely creating a distance between them and going straight to the details.

But those details were clear and precise allowing Kyoya to learn a lot about the death gods.

It appears that there are several death gods and each god is allotted to several races with humanity being one of the most unwanted. There were several reasons for that raging from their quantity and 'human forms'.

The human form is something that a lot of races have. If people get the human form and die with the human form, then they might be mistakenly sent to the sixth death god's castle! This is where he has to discern their real origins, then also check their powers whom they had been believing for their life.

"Once someone dies, a soul is automatically assigned to the appropriate death god. We have to check the origins of any mistakes at first. Then, our job is to split the divine energy of the believers to the gods they had believed in."

"I understand..."

Vera took out a few cards then. Each card had the letters from the former paper described. The cards were big, and so the letters, thus, Kyoya felt like she is teaching a kid! If Kyoya knew or compared his years of living with Vera, then he wouldn't mind being called a kid by her.

Even if he doesn't get the support of his 'divine energy', Kyoya should be able to understand the letters soon. The abilities of the death pen also should be then available for him, thus, his work should start.

As Vera's eyes looked into Kyoya, she noticed that he is diligently looking at the cards she held. A small nod of approval unconsciously happened, but little did the lady know that Kyoya was eluding her body!

But he was also willing to remember all those letters.

[She likes you!]

The system message then disturbed the husband. Ever since really left his side, the system was purposely leading him to tease or look at a woman like some pervert. Initially, Kyoya believed that this is because of his lust, but there had to be more to that.

The Trickster God's influence was slowly spreading within Kyoya's body!

"What happens next? Ah, I mean for the soul depleted of any energy."

"It depends on their last moments."

There was more to learn about the duties of death god's disciples. As a temporary disciple, Kyoya was someone worthy to teach. That's why Vera decided to neglect a little of her duties while promising inwardly to scribble on the desk with increased speed.

Thus, Kyoya got guided throughout the death castle.

He was only allowed to wander through Vera's territories and the souls that gather here. The death castle was cold and mostly dark, shrouded in the mystery, but also a lot of souls. It didn't take long for Kyoya to see the souls whose wisp-like bodies jumped, rolled, or motionlessly stood around.

"The ones who are motionless mostly end up not receiving the second chance. Their last moments were full of regrets that they can not accept. If they don't move for at least one hundred years, then they are bound to become the pure raw energy for the death castle and our master."

"I see."

"The souls are currently in the illusion formed from their experiences."

"Thank you for your teachings... I am willing to work hard now."

"That's what I hope for. Work hard and you will be able to meet Xaya."

The husband nodded firmly, his eyes blazing with the will to meet his wife! Now that the deed was close to being done, Kyoya felt like he had taken way too much time before actually satisfying the needs of his wife and also nurturing their feelings.

His emotions were steeled and so the duo came back to the desks.

It was time to work!

The husband is ready to work!

Or so he thought.

'It's smaller... and hard to read... But this should mean origins...'

Kyoya thought so after he glanced at the paper. He was not sure, but if he doesn't push himself or disappoint Vera, then he might not even learn about her name after all this time together! Furthermore, there is no way for him to sleep as a soul, so the constant shame would haunt him if he fails!

His eyes went toward whose body was at the helm.

It's the soul assigned to Kyoya's desk and its color was white. This is the soul of a human! To confirm this, Kyoya had to peek into its memories... Everyone with a sentient mind could do it with the pen in the hand.

However, Kyoya's mind shook as he noticed three colors.

[Is it human or not?]

[Human? Human?]

[If you want the answer, then hold the lady's hand!]

"..."
