“Knocked me down?”
Lin Wu stepped onto the brakes abruptly, stopping by the roadside. He turned and looked at Pei Jianing, asking in a deep voice, “What do you mean knocked me down? Are you saying that this car did that?”
Pei Jianing blinked and then nodded.
“The future me… was knocked down by this car?” Lin Wu couldn’t help but frown.
This car belonged to Li Luyao. Wouldn’t that mean that Li Luyao had knocked him down and killed him?
Then why did she hide it from him?
Could it be that Li Luyao had been lying to him?
Lin Wu had always trusted his own judgment and intuition. He didn’t feel that Li Luyao was someone like that. Moreover, if Li Luyao had been the one to kill him, then his obsession in seeking revenge would be Li Luyao. Why would he marry her?
Moreover, it was a fact that he had entered a netherworld marriage with Li Luyao. The matchmaker was the one who had tied the knot for them, so there was no mistake about this.
“Li Luyao…”
Lin Wu gave it some thought before suddenly asking Pei Jianing, “Was it Li Luyao who drove this car and knocked me down?”
As expected, Pei Jianing shook her head.
“Then who was it?”
Pei Jianing continued to shake her head.
“You don’t know the person?” Lin Wu frowned slightly and then asked, “What does that person look like?”
Pei Jianing pointed to herself. “… Me…”
Lin Wu was stunned. “You drove the car and knocked me down?”
Pei Jianing quickly shook her head and said with difficulty, “… Same… as… me…”
“The same as you?” Lin Wu thought about it before asking, “Was it a lady?”
Pei Jianing nodded.
Lin Wu stroked his chin.
He couldn’t understand the one who knocked him over and killed him. Why did she even use Li Luyao’s car?
He didn’t feel that he had much resentment, nor had he experienced any agonizing things in his life. Why would he become the most terrifying malicious ghost in the world?
And this wasn’t all. Reincarnators had been popping up around him in succession, yet he himself wasn’t one of them. He found this fact very strange as well.
“Forget it.”
Lin Wu took a deep breath, not wanting to think too much about it. He started the car and continued driving.
…
…
Half an hour later, outside the ward.
Lin Wu sat on the long bench and waited quietly. Hearing some footsteps going in his direction, he turned and saw that Li Luyao had come, walking on her high heels.
She was wearing a spaghetti strap top and cropped pants. Taking long strides with her long legs, she was walking very quickly.
There was a middle-aged guy with a leaner figure by her side. He looked a little tanned and was clearly someone who was often exposed to the sun and rain. With his slightly long and greasy hair, dark circles under his eyes, and beard stubbles around his mouth, one could see that he wasn’t a well-groomed man. Even the way he walked gave off a sluggish feeling.
Lin Wu assessed the middle-aged guy before turning to Li Luyao and saying, “You’re here.”
Li Luyao nodded and then walked up to him, taking his hand. She had her back to the middle-aged guy and winked at Lin Wu, asking, “Ah Wu, where’s the witness?”
What the hell was Ah Wu?
Lin Wu found this a little awkward.
He knew that this middle-aged guy was Li Luyao’s uncle. Afraid that the cat would be out of the bag, she intentionally acted more intimately toward him.
However, he still wanted to ask why she had to use ‘Ah Wu’ to address him. It was such a lousy name. Couldn’t she call him ‘hubby’?
However, Lin Wu couldn’t say anything since her uncle was present. He shook his head and said, “Her broken bone had just been set in place, and she’s taking an X-ray to see if the alignment is done right.”
Li Luyao nodded and then turned to show Lin Wu the middle-aged guy behind her. She said, “Let me introduce you. This is my uncle, Li Mu. It’s thanks to him that we can reopen the case for investigation.”
Lin Wu looked toward the middle-aged guy and said, smiling, “Hello, Uncle Li.”
The middle-aged man ‘Li Mu’ nodded casually as a means of greeting. He then said, “Let me first hear what the witness has to say. Only then can I ascertain if we can establish a case.”
As he spoke, his eyes narrowed slightly, assessing Lin Wu without a trace. It was as if he wanted to find out something from Lin Wu.
“Let’s take a seat while we wait.”
Pulling Lin Wu to the end of the seats, she sat next to him.
“The two of you can sit, I’ll pass.” Li Mu took out his lighter. He was about to light up the cigarette when he suddenly recalled that they were in the hospital. He then put his lighter back and tucked the cigarette behind his ear. Thereafter, he squatted down in front of Lin Wu.
Li Luyao knew how sharp her uncle’s eyes were and instantly felt a little nervous. She was afraid that he’d see through something, and she quickly leaned against Lin Wu.
Li Mu couldn’t help but throw a glance at Li Luyao, then at Lin Wu.
Lin Wu noticed his gaze and nudged Li Luyao with his shoulder, getting her a little further away from him. He then wore a helpless expression, shaking his head. “That’s enough, don’t show off too much affection in front of your uncle. It’s not a good habit to agitate single men.”
Li Luyao was slightly stunned. Although she felt a little perplexed, she still played along, pouting. “Who asked him to keep on harping that I’m not getting in a relationship and have a psychological problem? He deserves it.”
“Lass, how dare you purposely agitate me after finding a boyfriend. You’re really heartless.” Li Mu shook his head. He then put the cigarette back in his mouth, but not lighting it up.
Lin Wu couldn’t help but secretly heave a sigh of relief.
Li Luyao’s uncle was probably a police officer. When his eyes were assessing him earlier, Lin Wu felt as if he had been seen through.
And acting so intimately toward him was out of Li Luyao’s character. Her acting seemed a little too fake.
That was why he had purposely said this to dispel Li Mu’s suspicions.
“Oh, right, how did you know that I’m single?” Li Mu suddenly asked, feeling puzzled. “Did Luyao tell you this as well?”
Lin Wu shook his head and blurted out the fact without changing his expression, “That’s not it. It’s just that when you held onto your cigarette earlier, there were marks of having worn a ring on your finger. The color of your skin is different there. That’s why I feel that it hasn’t been long since you’ve regained your singlehood.”
Li Mu’s brows twitched. Feeling a little interested, he said, “That might not be the case. It could just be that I’m not feeling happy today and had taken the ring off temporarily.”
Lin Wu smiled and said, “Married men mostly carry themselves better.”
Li Mu stroked his stubble and then his slightly oily hair. He couldn’t help but smile. “Lad, you’re quite observant. I heard from Luyao that you’re an author. Do you write mystery novels?”
“No, I’m just writing for fun to provide some entertainment to others and myself.” Lin Wu shook his head and smiled.
“Oh?”
Li Mu seemed even more interested. “What’s the name of the book? I’ll go and check it out as well. Does your male lead have an icy beauty CEO for his wife, or is he the personal bodyguard for a pure, innocent top beauty in the school?”
“… There aren’t any of those. I only write about daily things in life as well as hitting on girls.” Lin Wu was speechless.
“Oh-oh? It’s fine for youngsters to flirt around. Are there any sex scenes?”
“… I’m a law-abiding citizen.”
“Sorry to disturb you.”
