"Wow, Old Town, I heard about this place, this place has a lot of historical charms", said Neel and Suhani jumped in excitement,
As I told you before that she really likes historical things,
"It is gonna be fun", said Suhani, and I just nods, I do not like that much historical things, I like adventure,
"So students, are you ready to go", Mr. Ban asked and all the students nod with a cheerful smile,
"The bus is waiting for us, let us go", said Mr. Ban and all students started running towards the bus, But Suhani was just walking with us, there was no excitement in her eyes for the last seat just like before, and that made me so sad,
So I just leave her hand and started running towards the bus, so that she could get some motivation, and I was right, she smiled seeing me like this, and started running behind me,
I started running so fast that I reach towards the bus when everyone was still so far, I quickly reserved the last seat, put my bag on the seat, and waved my hand towards Suhani, and she waved back with a great big smile,
She came inside the bus and hugged me so tightly, I offer her the window seat and she jumped in happiness,
"Thank you so much Jhummi, I love you", she said and kissed my cheek, she was so happy, and I was also happy to see her like this,
After just two minutes Neel, Ayan, and Raghav climbed in the bus, they were giggling and laughing and after Suhani waved her hand, they came and sat near us,
"Wow Jhummi, today you reserved the seat, I like it", said Neel and I passed him a smile,
"We are gonna see Old Town, who else is excited like me", asked Suhani in such excitement, but we all just stared her, as we were not that excited, so we just laughed so hard and tease her, and she made a puppy face,
"Aww, do not be sad baby, we all are excited", I said and she smiled,
"So, students, ready to go", said Mr. Ban and all students nods their heads,
"So, here we go", said Mr. Ban, and the bus started, and once again all students started cheering,
"The highest concentration of clubs in Switzerland, one of the most famous shopping miles, and a plethora of cultural offerings. And all of this against a medieval background. Zurich Old Town is a cultural, social and historical melting pot", and "The historic heart of the city beats on both sides of the Limmat river", said Ayan and we all stared at him,
"How do you know all this", I asked in curiosity, Ayan was really surprising me day by day,
"I just know", said Ayan with a shy smile,
After one and half hour we reached there, and we all get down from the bus, Suhani was overexcited,
"Students, no one will break any rules, and everyone would be with staff and teachers, okay, do not try to go anywhere alone", said Mr. Ban, and all students nod,
We started wandering there, it was a beautiful place,
The double towers of the Grossmünster (Great Minster) are Zurich's landmark. According to legend, Charlemagne built the towers at the location where the graves of the city saints Felix and Regula were discovered. Further sights worth seeing include the Peterskirche (Peter's Church), which has Europe's largest clock face, and the Fraumünster (Minster of Our Lady), which is known for its stained glass windows by Giacometti and Chagall", said one of our teachers and everyone was nodding in understanding,
On a two-hour walk through the old town, we go searching for clues to the city´s past in its hidden alleyways and picturesque squares. Together, we uncover the secrets of Bahnhofstrasse, find out what a "procession axis" is, and visit a church with a minute-hand that jumps a record-breaking half-meter every minute.
This popular tour is filled with numerous astonishing and amusing anecdotes and has plenty to offer both visitors and locals alike.
After exploring this place in Old Town, it was time for shopping,
Bahnhofstrasse – Zurich's Shopping Boulevard
You can find everything that your heart desires in Bahnhofstrasse: fashion, art and Zurich specialties attract local residents as well as visitors,
The world-renowned shopping boulevard was created after the construction of Zurich's Main Railway Station. At the spot where city moats were 150 years ago, today it connects Lake Zurich with the Main Railway Station on a length of 1.4 kilometers (0.87 miles).
You find numerous boutiques, department stores, and timepiece stores here, as well as at Paradeplatz – the Swiss banking center. Bahnhofstrasse is just as popular with locals and visitors, and it is always worth a visit. You can stroll relaxed along the lake in the summer as well as enjoy mulled wine or hot chocolate at every corner in the winter.
Rennweg and Augustinergasse lead off from Bahnhofstrasse into the picturesque old town.
Well, it was fun to explore this place, we did not purchase anything because it was so expensive, and we literally did not need anything as we are already having everything,
But secretly I bought a cute keychain fro Ayan, as they were making it hand to hand, so I told them to make one with Ayan's name, and it was so beautiful, I showed it Suhani and she just got mad,
"Jhummi, this is really unfair, you should have told me, I also want one for Neel, right now", she said and I told her to be quiet and I nodded silently,
So we both went again for Suhani, she also tell them to make one with Neel's name,
She literally got mad, she was so happy after having it she quidkly hide it in the bag and I also,
After visiting this place, my shopping desires got wild, I will come again here, when I will have a lot of money, then I will purchase everything here, I laughed on my own thought, it was amazing,
Now it was the time for the next place in the Old Town,
Rennweg – Once the Widest Street in Zurich
Rennweg was distinguished from other streets in Zurich due to its straightness for a long time and was the widest street in the city at one time.
Rennweg rises gently up a moraine hill from Bahnhofstrasse and runs below Lindenhof. The name was probably derived from "Rain", which means hillside. Rennweg was the widest street in Zurich in the Middle Ages and was especially distinguished from other streets and alleyways in Zurich due to its straightness.
The Rennwegtor gate stood at its lower end as part of the city fortifications. The Fröschegraben trench lay along the city wall, but it was filled in during the 19th century and the Bahnhofstrasse was built on top of it.
Rennweg is the second most exclusive shopping area in Zurich after the Bahnhofstrasse, and its pedestrian zone invites you to stroll and linger.
It was an amazing place, we just visit a lot of shops and stalls, it was so beautiful,
"Studnets, are you guys enjoying", asked Mr. Ban and all the students started shouting,
"So the time for the next place", said Mr. Ban and we all cheered with our hands up,
Sunset was so beautiful, as it is the last place we are gonna visit today, and Mr. Ban was saying that today we will not go back to the hotel, they arranged our stay here, in the Old Town,
So our next place is,
Paradeplatz – The Heart of Bahnhofstrasse
The intersection between Zurich' lake, old town and Bahnhofstrasse is known throughout the world as a financial center.
Paradeplatz is the heart of Bahnhofstrasse and an important tram junction near Lake Zurich. It was called "Säumärt" (pig market) in the 17th century, owing to a livestock market that took place regularly there. At the beginning of the 19th century, the name was changed to "Neumarkt" (New Market) due to an upswing in business – then again changed to "Paradeplatz" 50 years later.
Paradeplatz has made a name for itself as the largest financial transaction site in Switzerland since the time when large Swiss banks set up their main offices there. You can reach the old town of Zurich, Lake Zurich and Bahnhofstrasse from Paradeplatz. A branch of the confectionery company Sprüngli is also located there, where you can buy the popular "Luxemburgerli", said Mr. Ban, as Suhani was literally enjoying the history of these place and she was also writing some notes about every place, she is really crazy,
"Suhani, stop writing the notes now, we are here to see the place", I said and she made an annoying face.
