Jun Liu was busy in the construction site of the Wu Courtyard when he received a text from Wu Chen, asking him to fetch NaNa along the way when he returned home that evening.
Since Wu Chen asked nicely, which was very rare of him to do so since most of the time he was high-handed and overbearing; Jun Liu decided to help him. So, Wu Chen sent NaNa's contact to Jun Liu so it would be easy for Jun Liu to contact her.
Jun Liu opened the contact attachment sent to him by Wu Chen and saw that Wu Chen had saved NaNa's number as 'Lil Sister NaNa.' He snorted at the name assigned by Wu Chen to NaNa. It turned out that the domineering Wu Chen that people knew in the business world had a soft spot for his family member.
When Jun Liu reached the parking lot of the Faith Middle School, it was already the time to go off work for the teachers there, but he didn't see NaNa around, so he called her to tell that he was already waiting for her in the parking lot.
While waiting for NaNa to come, Jun Liu thought that it would be weird for her to save NaNa's name as NaNa because he didn't believe that they were close enough to keep each other's number. Jun Liu didn't even feel like he needed to have her number.
But since Wu Chen seemed to rely on him a lot to send and pick up NaNa from time to time, he decided that he needed to save her number – just in case. Jun Liu tried to change NaNa's name on his contact list, but he couldn't think of any name until he saw NaNa from afar.
Seeing NaNa was walking towards the parking lot with excitement in her face made Jun Liu remembered the day he sent her to the airport; with her eyes so bright, trying to dig gossip from him and the cat ears headband. How could he ever forget the cat ears headband? Since then, all things related to cat remind him of NaNa. Heck, even NaNa herself reminds him of a cat; indeed, she was a cat for him.
So, Jun Liu typed 'Miss Cat Ear' and pressed saved.
Jun Liu was so proud of himself for being able to think of such a befitting name for NaNa. He waited patiently for NaNa to approach the black Lexus but his patience ran out when NaNa stopped from quite a distance, and she was looking towards Jun Liu's direction with such a disappointment in her face.
This was not the first time Jun Liu had noticed the look of disappointment in NaNa's face every time she sees him. Jun Liu did not understand. What was it that made NaNa so disappointed every time she saw him? Just what it is so disappointing about him?
NaNa opened the car's door and greeted Jun Liu. "Hi, Ah Jun. Did you wait long? I thought my brother was kidding when he said that someone else would come to pick me up" NaNa gave her best smile even though Jun Liu had an unfriendly appearance.
Today, NaNa felt that Jun Liu had an even colder look on him like he usually had the other days she was with him inside the car. Having to spend some time with someone who was cold in a small compact space made NaNa felt stuffed.
To break the ice, NaNa decided to ask questions because if she didn't, she will faint of awkwardness inside the car. "Ah Jun, aren't you busy? If you are busy, you don't have to pick me up next time. I can call for taxi"
NaNa meant good when she said that she could call for the taxi but Jun Liu interpreted it the other way round. He thought that NaNa didn't want him to pick her up. Hence, this explained the disappointed look on her face a while ago.
NaNa waited for Jun Liu to reply her but he never did. He didn't even glance at her, but NaNa could feel that the temperature inside the car dropped a few Celsius. NaNa wondered why Jun Liu was so cold. "Ah Jun, do you have a cat? Or a dog?"
Upon hearing the word 'cat' from NaNa's mouth, Jun Liu finally took a quick glance at NaNa. A cat disguised as a human was asking him if he has a cat? Jun Liu was interested in the motive of Yi Fei's conversation.
"Cat? No, why?" His answer was simple, but this made NaNa happy because he was finally replying to her question.
"No? Why? Did your cat die? Is that why you don't have a cat anymore?" NaNa had this suspicion in her mind that something belonged to Jun Liu must have died, in this case, probably his cat died. That's why he was extra cold today.
Jun Liu looked at NaNa like she had asked the most absurd question he ever heard. He frowned before looking at the front because he couldn't fathom the reason why NaNa asked if his cat dies.
When NaNa saw Jun Liu's reaction, she interpreted it as him being heartbroken and didn't want to talk about it. So NaNa did the most straightforward thing she could do to appease his broken heart. NaNa held onto Jun Liu's upper limb and looked at him with eyes so sincere it could soften even the hardest heart.
"I'm sorry for your loss, but your cat must be in a better place now. Don't be sad. You can join Yi Fei and me to go play with the stray cats at the animal shelter" NaNa was sincerely expressing her sympathy towards Jun Liu.
Jun Liu couldn't help but chuckled when he heard the 'better place.' He didn't say anything, but the lady in front of him was thinking way ahead of him. Jun Liu didn't have a cat – he never had one. He didn't feel that he was committed enough to care for animals. But the big cat in front of him was expressing her sympathy, saying that his cat that he never had was in better place.
He looked at NaNa who was in dazed beside him; her hands were still clinging on his upper limb.
"Ah Jun, are you always this good looking?" NaNa asked absentmindedly. She was smitten when she saw Jun Liu's smiling face.
She didn't wait for his reply and continued talking. "You should smile often. You look so handsome when you smile."
Seeing how distracted the big cat in front of him was, an idea popped out in his mind.
He suddenly felt like it might not be necessarily a bad idea of him to take care of a cat.
