NaNa did not have to ask to know who sent her the message. NaNa kept on rereading the text message for only god knows why.
Yi Fei stood beside NaNa quietly as if she knew what happened and who the sender might be, but she did not say anything. It was not her place to tell NaNa what to do.
"Yi Fei, you know… Zi Yi told me just now that he broke up with her girlfriend. The very same girl that became his reason to break up with me."
There was an unknown emotion in NaNa's eyes. Was it pity? Or relief? Yi Fei didn't know.
In the many books that she read, including the novel that she wrote, Yi Fei knew this kind of thing was coming for someone who was new in a relationship like NaNa and Jun Liu. However playful and childish she might be, Yi Fei knew when she should be quiet and let people determine their action.
But that doesn't mean that Yi Fei couldn't give a hint or what. As the human heart is a fragile thing, one small thing could sway our heart. That's why people are insecure.
Out of the blue, Yi Fei coughed.
"I wrote this one in my first novel: If you don't want to get involved, never comfort a fragile heart. Love is easily mistaken for sympathy and empathy. Since a heart is a fragile thing, when you find someone that beats in time with yours, hold it tenderly and never let it go."
Then, Yi Fei walked into her room, whispering the last few words in her sentence; she was hoping that NaNa would be bright enough to understand the hint she gave her.
NaNa kept on looking towards Yi Fei's room and thought how Yi Fei could be dependable sometimes. Right at that time, her phone rang. The ID of the caller is Mr. Someone-Like-You.
NaNa stared at the caller's ID. Someone like Jun Liu was in love with her – someone who got dumped by her fiancé. A smile etched on her face at the thought of her and Jun Liu in the kitchen just a few hours ago. She touched the rose ring on her finger and then she picked up the call.
"You reach home?" The male voice on the other side was drowsy as if he was just waked up from his slumber. NaNa said a simple'mm' to answer to Jun Liu's question. Both of them were quiet.
Jun Liu was a man of a few words, so it was natural for him to talk much but NaNa is different.
Usually she talked much, and she could talk about something for a long time before stopping. Jun Liu felt that there was something off with NaNa when she didn't speak much.
"What happen?" Jun Liu asked.
NaNa did not expect that Jun Liu will ask her what happen. While NaNa contemplated whether to tell him or not, Jun Liu spoke again.
"NaNa, you know that you can tell me anything right?"
NaNa could hear Jun Liu yawning on the other end of the line. She knew that Jun Liu had been trying his best to be patient with her. Then NaNa remembered Yi Fei's words previously right before Yi Fei entered her room.
Never let it go.
"Ah Jun, Zi Yi is here."
Jun Liu did not say anything on the other end. NaNa realized that her words sound so wrong on so many levels. She panicked and tried to rephrase her words correctly.
"I mean, not here as in 'here' in my house. He rents the house next door for a month. I bumped into him just now. We talked a little bit" NaNa did not elaborate further. She was not sure whether Jun Liu was listening or not after her first failed attempt to tell Jun Liu.
"I see. So what?" The response from Jun Liu was short, but it has a lot of meaning.
So what now? So what do you think? So what if he's here? So what this and that. This kind of question requires high order thinking skill. NaNa finally understand the struggled that her students faced when answering such question.
"Are you affected by him?" Jun Liu asked another question.
For some reason, NaNa felt offended by his question. Does he think that her heart wavered easily when the former lover came to her life once again?
"Huh? What do you mean? Why should I be affected by him? He and I are over. I am only like this because he suddenly appears in front of me. Why would I become affected by him? He is not taller than you; not more handsome than you; not richer than you. When I fall in love, I love that person wholeheartedly. The mere appearance of an ex-boyfriend will not sway me. Just what do you think I am?"
NaNa was speaking dramatically and almost shouting when she said everything in one go without giving Jun Liu the chance to interrupt her.Jun Liu did not speak for some time. NaNa started to regret her reckless action of shouting to Jun Liu.
"Good. Because I'm not letting you go. Now, go to sleep. I am very sleepy" Jun Liu was yawning for the nth time.
NaNa's heart was engulfed with warm at Jun Liu's words. How someone who never gets in a relationship with a woman could be so smooth in sweet talking? If NaNa didn't know better, she might take Jun Liu as a Casanova.
Both of them talked for a little bit before they hung up. Jun Liu went back to sleep, and NaNa was preparing for her lesson. Meanwhile, Zi Yi's message was left unanswered.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zi Yi kept on looking at his phone, hoping that the recipient of the message he sent earlier will reply to his message – but she didn't.
Zi Yi had been composing and deleting the message before he finally dared to send the text message to NaNa. He wanted to ask NaNa to have dinner with him, but the short lady who is supposed to be NaNa's housemate was there, so he didn't get to ask her.
Zi Yi didn't know what comes to him. Since the day he met NaNa and her boyfriend in the McDonalds Restaurant last few days ago, something doesn't feel right to him.
It was easy for ZI Yi to get information about NaNa since as a lawyer; he has a lot of connections here and there. He didn't know that NaNa was teaching in City L right after they broke up. It wasn't her fault in any way since Zi Yi stopped caring about NaNa since he broke up with her.
Seeing how NaNa looked happy with that guy, something stirred in his heart. After that, Zi Yi found out that no matter what his girlfriend he always found himself comparing his current girlfriend to NaNa. NaNa had been on his mind since then. He could not erase her from his memory. He started to think that he was becoming crazy with regret.
How could he throw a diamond for a rock?
Inside his car in the parking lot, Zi Yi looked at NaNa's house with the hope that she will reply to his text.
And maybe, give him a chance too.
