139 At Jasper City 4

Name:Immoral System Author:FallenBlue
In the end, Chris decided not to contact his former schoolmates. His reason was out of pettiness, or a sort of skewed excuse. He didn't want anyone prying into his business after saying his condolences. Since he just suddenly transferred and to another city at that, people who knew him would be bound to be curious. And he didn't want to think of what they would ask him if ever the topic strays to him.

Since the heavier matter right now was Clea Luizon's sudden death, let it stay as the focus of attention. He didn't want even the tiniest piece of this hot potato.

It was the morning of the next day, and he was in the nearby mall, specifically inside a courier shop. Wearing an outfit which was almost the same with yesterday's, except the color of his long sleeve shirt was now black, he went to the side where paper, pen, and envelopes could be bought. After getting himself one of each, he found himself a vacant space on the nearby table and then began writing. Halfway, he heard the system asking whether he had a death wish. But of course, he did not respond, as always.

Unfortunately, it was not at all willing to stop the discussion even when it got no reply from him.

Once again, no reply came from him. And the ignored system which was just concerned about him couldn't help but make sulking noises within his head. It really couldn't understand where he was getting the guts to annoy or anger an official host. It thought, Chris was at least a lot smarter than Floyd. But why was he seemingly and stupidly courting death each time Host 137 was involved?

Chris actually didn't care, both about the system's questions, and the consequences of his actions. Or put more appropriately, he knew at least Sofony Mendez was not the unreasonable type who would hack those who scolded her to death.

Anyway, what he did was just say his condolences through her, though he did say some scathing remarks to her, reminding her that she'd most likely cause Clea's passing. He'd probably be seen bad for doing this, but he was just stating facts. It was never easy knowing something but having no means to change a thing. This was the only way he could think of which would let him express himself. And he only wanted to remind her of this, while also letting out some of his misgivings about the situation.

After inserting the folded bond paper inside the white envelope, he went to the counter and settled the payment for mailing the letter to Alina City. The bored-looking man there listlessly stamped the envelope and put it away somewhere. Chris secretly scowled, asking if everything was already okay. He left the place looking as though he swallowed a handful of flies because that male staff gave him a dirty look which also screamed to Chris that he was an idiot for not knowing something obvious.

Some times later, deeming it better to buy some books to read at home since it was already the start of the semester break, he searched around then entered a relatively large bookstore.

This was where he ended up frowning really bad because he bumped into someone he met yesterday...

'Her again?' he asked himself when the woman acting like a distressed lady yesterday appeared beside him. He easily recognized her due to her very memorable face.

It was such a nice coincidence that both of them were in the same mall, in the same bookstore, in front of the same shelf, trying to reach out for the same Mathematics book.

Unfortunately, the presence of this lady made it impossible for him to believe that it was really just a coincidence...

"Ah, sorry, you can take this." And then the beautiful woman who managed to get the book tried to hand it over to him without checking who he was. She was acting as though she would just get another of the same title in the shelf. That her eyes only widened when she happened to, scratch it, accidentally turned her head to his direction and saw him.

"You're the one at the pharmacy yesterday, right?" The beautiful woman who initially had a surprised expression on her face immediately smiled and greeted. She was wearing a white dress today paired with red high stilettos. Her beauty became more radiant as she was now smiling instead of crying.

But of course, Chris did not give a damn about how she looked like. He was more concern about why she appeared her and why she was acting like they were acquaintances. It would be too much of a coincidence if she really was only after books today, right? Or was he just imagining that she was staging an act again?

Troubled by the possibility which crossed his mind, he did not return the greetings but turned around. He also did not accept the book being given to him.

Anyway, he was not really related to the girl, and he doesn't know her so it should be okay to act like a snub. It was not like she was some friend which he should acknowledge if met in the streets or somewhere.

Thinking of these, he immediately began to walk away, his mind already wondering whether to go home or take the bus or train and tour around by himself today.

He scowled but did not say a thing. It had been four days since this damn system began announcing stuff like this to him. One time it even voluntary showed him what it called 'user interface' and highlighted the scant points available there. Of course, all it received from him was the silent treatment. He disliked being reminded that he got turned into a half-host without his permission.

Whatever. He thought. What mattered today was to get away from this suspicious actress. With no involvement with people like her, there would be no trouble. He didn't have to care whether it was a coincidence or not.

What was that, anyway? Does it really exist? What he could see right now was a conspiracy...

That was what he told himself as he took big strides towards the exit.

Until the woman from behind suddenly opened her mouth and calmly said,

"Let's have a talk somewhere, Mr. Chris Meyer..."

...

If someone acted mysteriously in a 'fateful' encounter and called out the other's name who this someone should not be acquainted with yet, the usual next scene should be them appearing inside a cafe or restaurant. The two would be seated at a secluded table. The former would be the relaxed one, ordering food from the waiter while inspecting the nervousness of the other. As for the latter, his head would be filled with all sorts of dark thoughts, most of which were centered around the idea 'Why does she know my name? And what does she need from me?' All of these would show in his face, which would inform the former that she was the one in control.

Due to the latter's unstable mind, the initiative would then, a matter-of-fact, be with the former. And in any type of discussion, the one holding the initiative would dictate the rhythm of the talk.

To be honest, Alessa Morgan had this in mind when she decided to appear in this section of the bookstore and spoke up his name when he began walking away.

She was expecting the man to turn around, shocked by the fact that she knew his name. Then while he was still in a dazed state, she'd politely invite him to a not-so-populated restaurant nearby. The talk would then be held there, and she would be the one leading it.

Such a perfect setting! In her opinion, it was already a confirmed conclusion!

Until it got messed up by the unexpected reaction of the uninformed party...

Now, who the hell could tell her why instead of turning around and facing her agape, the guy suddenly bolted away as if he was being chased by a demon with six heads, six arms, and six eyes?

Why was she the one left dumbfounded again?

Just what did go wrong?

Was this why people said, don't count your chickens before they hatch? That one must not be too hasty in rejoicing? Because just like karma is a b*tch, fate is too, and could probably be the worse between the two?

After some time... When Alessa's soul came back to her body, calmness also returned to her countenance. She did not move from her spot to chase after the fleeing boy. However, when she fished out her phone and called her male assistant slash bodyguard, even though there was a smile on her lips, her voice was a bit unnatural, making the one from the receiving end smiled wryly and thought, 'I see. The Second Miss is angry...'
