150 Will To Live 1

Name:Immoral System Author:FallenBlue
Bathed in his own blood, nailed on the barbed wire fence through several iron rods sticking out from his chest, stomach, and thighs. His arms that also couldn't even hang down due to the thorns from the barbed wires holding them in place. Flesh mangled in rusty iron, plus blood pooling so abundantly beneath him.

Almost lifeless, and certainly like a broken doll.

When she discovered the person looking no worse than someone flayed and crucified, she and Diaz were inside the car. They only barely made out his sorry figure from the opposite side of the fence. However, when they did, much less she, even Diaz who had a heart several times stronger than hers was badly shaken.

She remembered, this happened around 1:55 pm.

More or less four hours passed since then as it was now already 5:45 pm.

Alessa had to take in big gulps of air in order to calm her raging heart. She also shook her head to erase the extremely gory and miserable pictures in her mind which had scared the hell out of her the first time she saw the sight.

"Second Miss. His state is terrible. But the doctors have assured that he will not die. Thankfully we found him before it was too late. The other good news is that the iron bars did not really puncture any fatal part in him. However, he still lost so much blood. His countless wounds and broken bones would take at least two months to heal, another two months for rehab."

The girl nodded at Diaz who came in, reporting. She was relieved that the person who helped her avoid death yesterday would not die today.

They were currently in the waiting room designated to the relatives of the patients in the OR. The place was not very crowded because almost everyone who should be here was outside the emergency room where their loved ones were being operated.

Her case was different. She was not really Chris Meyer's relatives and was only here as the person who luckily found him a few hours ago in the run-down basketball court near her apartment. This was the reason why she had no qualms waiting inside this room instead of guarding the door to ambush the doctors that would come out of it.

Despite this though, she was still very nervous. It was not like she had deep ties with the man. To be honest, she even quite had an unpleasant impression of him due to his rude attitude towards her. However, all of this didn't matter before a person's life and death. As the one who unfortunately found him in that state, she felt like she had some responsibility to at least secure his life since he did the same to her yesterday when he warned her about the bomber.

It was just that she couldn't stop herself from thinking about how he ended up like in that unspeakably horrible situation... Who did that to him? And for what reason?

"Diaz, did Aura give you an update?" she asked her bodyguard, masking the unease in her face and heart.

"Sorry, Miss. She said there is really nothing even after she hacked all the CCTVs around and in between the possible routes from his home to the basketball court." The man also shook his head and stared at his boss, worry evident from his eyes. "Miss, I'm not sure if he's just unluckily victimized. However, the perpetrator's means are so clever and efficient that even I who came from the military was awed."

No more elaboration was needed. Alessa understood that he was advising her not to involve herself with the guy anymore.

"I know what I'm doing, don't worry." The girl gave the other a small smile, then stood up from the monobloc chair.

It was because a doctor still in his green operational gown, walked in so Alessa got up from her seat and greeted him.

"How is he, Doc?"

"He's now at least brought back from half-death," replied the slightly haggard-faced man. "However, his state is really dangerous. If he doesn't wake up within 24 hours, I'm afraid he will become comatose for life. After all, his brain also suffered from some shock and hemorrhages, most likely caused by something that hit or prick the back of his head. There are some more things I would love to discuss, but Miss Morgan, where are the family member of the patient?"

The girl only stared at the doctor and quietly said, "Don't ask for now. Just do your best to heal him and make him wake up."

The doctor made a difficult expression, looking as though he had more important things to say which really needed the presence of the family members. However, remembering who the person in front of him was, or at least from which family she came from, he wisely chose to shut up and go back to the patient's room.

When the man disappeared from sight, Diaz who was beside her said in a low voice, "Miss, shouldn't we notify his parents? Aura said, the night is coming, so they'll surely discover that he's missing."

"It's you who said that something was off about his circumstances. His parents are normal people so it would be better to only notify them once he wakes up. Anyway, this mysterious guy will surely not want his powerless parents to get involved if he was really in something quite troublesome."

Alessa labeled the young man mysterious due to how he predicted the bombing incident a few minutes after they parted yesterday. She was in contact with someone from the Jasper City Police Station, so she received a bit of information on how the interrogation had proceeded. This was how she discovered that this young man who she thought as a nobody was not really someone like that.

The bodyguard did not speak anymore. However, he was puzzled. His boss had suspicions about the youngster, so why continue involving herself with him? Hadn't she already fulfilled her obligation when she brought him in this hospital?

Sadly, he wouldn't be receiving any answer from the girl since she was leaving no room for discussion.

It was already close to nighttime. So when Alessa was reminded of the time, she decided to leave the hospital for a while. It was for dinner. She went out to dine in the nearest decent restaurant nearby, having no plans to torture herself with unpalatable hospital meals. Alessa might be a neglected misbegotten Miss of the Morgans, but it didn't mean that she would allow herself to even not have freedom when it comes to food.

...

"Where..am... I?"

It was around 2 pm in the afternoon, Sunday.

Alessa, who had taken a liking to the quietness of the hospital, had chosen to spend the afternoon there reading her scripts. Wearing a plain grey off-shoulder top and floral patterned long skirt, she sat near the bed with her eyes busily scanning the papers in hand. She was engrossed in studying a scenario when she heard that question. She subconsciously glanced up, surprised to see the young man laboriously turning his head to her direction. Her eyes widened and when she came back to her senses, a bit of glee showed on her face, glad that finally, this trouble woke up and did not end up like what most doctors here had predicted.

She stood up from her chair and put down the scripts in hand. Afterward, she hurriedly strode towards the side and pressed on the buzzer.

"You're in the hospital. Wait for a while, I just notified the nurses and doctors to come over." Alessa promptly responded to his questions.

They didn't wait long for people in white coats and uniform to come in. Knowing that the doctor would have to do some check ups on him, Alessa stayed on the side and waited for the procedure to be finished. After some time, the doctor finally stopped asking questions and instructed Chris to do this and that. Once done with that, he turned around and faced her, saying with a slight smile,

"Miss Morgan, he is fine now. Fortunately, nothing happened to his brain. He's also not showing signs of amnesia. Of course, he would still have to be confined for quite a long while since his injuries are severe, but so far, it's good that we don't have to worry over loss of memories. By the way, he requested to be left alone with you. I saw no real problem with that. Just take note that he had just woken up and is still very weak. It's not advisable to talk for so long."

Alessa nodded, then said, "Thanks for all your effort, Doc. Please leave us for now. I promise it won't take long."

A few seconds after that, only she and the weak young man lying on the bed were left. With a complicated expression on her face, she went back to her stool, placing the scripts on top of the bedside table. As for the gloomy-faced man, he stared at her for so long before opening his mouth and asking a question which she did not quite expect to be asked from the get-go.

"Who else... knows that I'm... here?"
