....
Thirty minutes after...
Chris arrived at the destination, thanking the heavens that the one he asked to come was already there, waiting.
Two other people were at the place, that man who refused to leave Wendy's side, and the bodyguard. The former should be that another system user he heard from Sofia.
Since the matter was urgent and it seemed that the woman trusted them somehow, he disregarded the discomfort from being glared at by another male and immediately told her everything that he learned from his AI.
When it got to the point where she asked how he knew about the connection, with a complicated expression, he reminded her,
"She's the one mentioned in my qualifying mission. So about my non-host supporter, it's actually her..."
A furious howl suddenly came from his right.
"LIAR!!!!"
"... Huh?"
What the half-host never expected to happen in his visit to Sofony's townhouse was to fly across the room after being ambushed by a raging fist.
Sounds of a sturdy body colliding with the wall next to the door of Wendy's sickroom filled the place, making way into the ears of everyone present.
"DAFUQ!"
Chris whose back and head heavily struck the solid wall cursed out, not due to the negligible pain from the back nor his jaw, but from being hit by the unknown guy that Sofony brought back with her from C Empire.
He didn't know what garnered him such a strike.
Thus, anger immediately rose from his eyes.
He was attacked! It was an enemy!
Red-eyed, he got up and corrected his posture then fired at the damnable attacker the moment his gun materialized. It was not that he forgot about the regular human in the place, but it was that he instinctively retaliated.
Jone who witnessed this gawked at the scene, in disbelief of how the actor under the Silver princess' employment could do magic tricks. Apparently, even as a trusted agent with access to items Sofony from time to time always gives to her people, the man was not given an opportunity for knowledge about immoral hosts and the system.
"F*cker! Who gives you the right to sneak-attack me!?"
Chris was the rational and shadow worker type. If given a choice, he preferred cyber confrontations than direct fights.
But it didn't mean that he would shy away from those kinds of things. The proof of this was how he charged head-on into one of the locations owned by the organization.
Even before Sofony could raid one, Chris had already raided his!
If thought in a certain angle, the difficulty he faced when he did that was greater due to the presence of someone a level higher than him.
But all in all, this showed that if he willed it, he would be able to do so.
The half-host didn't give a damn whether the other young man in the place was a full-fledged host or not.
From the moment he appeared here, the stupid guy had begun to rain him hostile glances. He had yet to demand an explanation for that. And now this?
'You attacked me for no reason whatsoever?'
When Ver evaded the bullets using only his supernaturally upgraded body and perception, Chris dashed forward and jumped sideways, the right foot extended fell squarely on the other's midsection.
"I'm not a pushover, bastard!" Chris glared daggers at the man, his dislike of the other oozing endlessly from his brown eyes.
Jone was surprised by the sudden turn of events and then when he came back to his senses, he saw that the actor had already gotten up and about to rain punches on the sleep-deprived pretty-faced man.
"Miss, should call people to stop them, or do I stop them by myself."
The agent asked the last part with a bit of hesitation in his tone.
In his eyes, the two's brawl was not something a normal human could grasp. Not even the most capable agent under Gio, George, would be able to follow their movements.
So how could a brittle-boned man in his forties be able to manage the feat?
Uhh, it sounds like courting death?
Look, the actor made his fists flash like lightning in the air, descending on an unguarded face that probably also made him green with envy.
However, the other young man managed to shift his head to the side despite those fists' speed.
'Seems impossible for me...'
The one the agent asked was the other woman in the room, besides the sleeping Wendy.
It was Sofony.
Drowned in her thoughts about the information she received from Chris, she didn't reply.
Seeing this, the faithful secretary cleverly kept his silence while watching out for the two brawling men.
'... I should have suspected that the place is not simple. Yet it's hard to believe that those kinds of dirty things exist. A ghost...'
The woman felt her chest tightened, the more she thought of what happened and what Wendy was currently going against by herself, the more she felt angry.
A few moments later, the ugly scene in front fully triggered her fury hence after hypnotizing Old Jone to go out and forget everything, she raised her eyes to Ver Drilon and told to him in a voice that held glacier in them.
"... Continue fighting and I'll take away your rights to see Wendy. You won't be able to see her. Until the end of your lifetime."
The person warned initially thought that she was only bluffing. Until Ver saw her eyes and recognized her suppressed rage and desire to silence him forever.
'Damn. I forgot, I'm no match against her right now due to my lack of points.'
Yes, Ver realized that Sofony did not refer to her taking the comatose woman somewhere far away which he would eventually find through teleportation.
She planned to end his life... if he wouldn't behave.
He once again cursed.
But as a stubborn lovestruck fool, he chose to disentangle himself with Chris by teleporting a meter away.
Ver kept sending stares that wished for Chris' death though, jealousy and resentment bubbling within, clouding his reasoning.
Sofony ignored the guy she was barely acquainted with and faced Chris,
"I asked my system. It's a ridiculous theory, but if my guess is correct, the person that died contracted the system right after he or she passed away. The AI had attached itself to the person maybe when he or she still had a breath left, but his hesitation killed him, and when he agreed to get bound, or when he completed the qualifying mission, it was too late. His physical body had already died."
The half-host broke away from his glaring contest with Ver.
He replied,
"How the ghost died and encountered the system is irrelevant. No matter how stupid it sounds, the ghost is already a half-host. For sure, it's looking for a vessel so it can complete its missions and then take revenge. The problem is, it is currently inside your friend's mind."
If the people in the room were not immoral hosts, they might have lost their wits and calm at this point.
It was probably a good thing for each of them that they had been dealing with things impossible to process through normal brains. They easily accepted the situation and understood its severity.
"... I badly want her to wake up." Out of a sudden, Ver who had already calmed himself a bit tiredly murmured. "Must I search for Daoists or mediums now?"
Sofony and Chris looked towards him, their gazes telling him that they were suspecting if he had lost his mind.
"We are immoral hosts. Even ghosts should be afraid to cross us since it's easy for us to purchase stuff which could vanquish them," Sofony irritatedly replied.
This was the truth since she just asked for whatever that could help them in the current situation and her damnable system suggested a few.
Unfortunately, after it happily deducted its recommendation fees, she learned that nothing from it could purify an incorporeal being inside the brain of an unconscious but living being. How furious she was when she heard the information from the system!
Why couldn't it just tell her directly that Wendy would have long died if it weren't for Chris' inexplicable connection with her? And that whatever link serving as a shield against the foreign entities - the soul and its AI, was the only reason Wendy hadn't become somebody else?
Sofony looked at her pale-faced sleeping friend and wondered what that annoying thing that refused to go to the afterlife had done.
"... I browsed the skill shop. There's something called Exorcism Skill there. It could probably help. But the problem is that only those at Level 6 could purchase it," Ver frustratedly said, the dark bags under his eyes seemed to have become darker again.
Chris annoyedly commented, "You're at Level 5, right? Just level up."
"Easy for you to say."
Sofony gave the new guy a stern glance since he looked like itching for a fight again.
The woman knew that this person was only very irritable due to his lover's state plus the lack of sleep. All the worries and negative thoughts must have worn him down and pushed him to the edge. Given his dilemmas plus the internal struggles and guilt, it was very normal to become cranky and crazy.
Still, he disliked how hot-headed this Ver dude was. She badly wanted to send him to sleep or trap him in a fridge and make him clear his head there.
As for the half-host, this guy was only irked by the male teleporter. People provoked would not have a nice impression of those who aggravated them for no reason or ridiculous reasons.
"Listen to me, you two..."
The woman took a deep breath and then told the two of her present mission. Plans must be cooked up now if they didn't want to run out of time.
Both men appeared reluctant to aide her, but through threats and promises, she coerced them to support her in officially toppling the organization.
It had to be done as soon as possible.
Because Chris said, "We can't lay our bets on what this fool said. Who knows if he has really designated Ms. Gomez as his supporter. Or if he did request, we don't know if it really worked. It's hard to gamble. Right now all I can say for sure is that the thin connection serving as the barrier will only last for another three or four days..."
Sofony closed her eyes, understanding what he meant. The reality was painful, but if perchance, he was right, it meant that Wendy would die if they didn't find any solution within that span of time...
