In the whole city, there was no one else in the greatest danger of getting killed or attacked by the enemies other than Chris. This was what crossed the actor's mind, the moment he heard of Sofony's disappearance.
The Silver princess was gone. The clone, Sofia Mendoza, was also taken away by the leader of the Secret Organization. Their little alliance had just done something crazy when they infiltrated and bombed several sites in C-Empire and confronted Leo Jones. In their little group, he was the only one around and was the weakest one too.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Meyer. Mr. Albarez is not here and no one knows his current whereabouts. Even we have no idea where our boss is now."
Chris drew in a cold breath after hearing this from the secretary called George who used to tail Sofony before. The half-host was not aware that the man originally worked for Gio so he momentarily found it weird to see the bespectacled guy within Ever Victorious. However, discovering this piece of information was nothing but a fleeting matter before the real issue.
Gio Albarez, Sofony's fiancé and the person he was assuming to be a high-level host, was not there too which sounded real bad news to him. He didn't know whether the Albarez' heir had heard of the news and immediately went to search for the woman. But he knew he was, and maybe the whole city too, was in a very vulnerable situation. The realization made him close his eyes for some time with a frown put on.
"Chris… Why are we looking for Mr. Albarez?" Puzzled and anxious, Alessa asked him.
They walked down the low staircase leading to the parking lot in the basement of the building. Worry could be made out on the actress' face too since she could see that he was making a gloomy expression.
How would he answer his girlfriend who didn't really have a holistic idea of what he was and what kind of world he was living at now? The man wondered. He knew how he acted earlier in the penthouse so, in the woman's view, he probably appeared weird since he abruptly pulled her towards this place without informing her why.
He remained silent for some time before he spoke in a low voice. "Alessa, do you know that Ms. Silver has been kidnapped?"
"What?" Genuine shock immediately crossed the woman's face. What he said felt surreal to her and her body even jolted a bit on her seat.
Chris grimly nodded. Yet Alessa still couldn't believe it. Even when their car left for the main road, her head was shaking at him.
She asked with a slightly shaky voice. "H-hey. Are you speaking the truth? Y-you mean the President?"
Confusion flickered across her eyes since it was hard for her to imagine that Sofony Silver could be kidnapped. Several inexplicable things had happened in the industry and in the most recent one even, several artists, directors, producers, and investors unexpectedly met disaster yet Sofony Silver remained safe. In fact, there were several indications that it was her who resolved the problem and made the rival company taste defeat. Could that sort of resourceful and all-knowing woman fell into the hands of someone?
Chris continued driving. He replied, "I went to Ever Victorious to find Gio Albarez because I wish to talk to him about this. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to catch up with him there. Since he's not around, it also means it's true."
"But he could just be somewhere else, for a meeting, or surveying his properties and businesses." Alessa turned to the guy in the driver seat and argued. "You know, big bosses like him are not the type to be bound by their swivel chair. Actually, I won't even be surprised if I hear he's on vacation while his people are working so hard for him."
He frowned. "While that makes sense, you seem to be forgetting my other occupation," he could only say to stop her from doubting his words. He brought up his hacking skills, although, in reality, his intel came from the system who offered it to him for free.
Anyways, his goal was achieved as the woman no longer questioned his information. Instead, she widened her eyes for some time and exclaimed an 'OMG'. A couple of seconds were needed for her to recover. Then furrowed her brows as she asked, "If Miss Silver really disappeared, are we going to be affected badly? I, I mean, you particularly? Since you reacted this strongly about the issue?"
The man cast her a glance, a serious one, which made her heartbeat sped up. Alessa was stunned for a moment by the kind of look he just gave her because it was just tantalizing. Thankfully, the woman, although as hopeless as always, still had some sense in her brain so she hurriedly managed to chastise herself for being distracted at such a time. She realized the gravity in his situation upon meeting his gaze. And she was feeling so bad for an unknown reason.
He opened his mouth. Alessa waited for him to say a thing. Yet minutes passed and he chose to shake his head which made her heart sunk.
'It seems I'm not yet there,' she told herself self-mockingly, reminded that in his life, her status was still only that of a temporary lover.
He only spoke when they reached the townhouse where Wendy's unconscious body lies.
"Alessa, I'm sorry," he said in the same low voice that only had some tinge of apology and helplessness as the difference. The girl sported a dumbfounded face when she turned to him. While she was not truly comforted by his reply, it came as a shock to her that he apologized to her.
However, his next words, like his brown eyes that were abnormally tender yet sad, almost made her heart stop.
"I can't say much… And I quite hate myself for doing this. But I fear that this time, I might be in real danger of dying. So you have to choose and you have to decide now…."
"Are you really intent on being with me? Even if I say even you, and those with the most minute relationship with me, might die anytime soon?"
…
Every day that Amelia passed hearing that her hated half-sister, Alessa, and rival in power and influence, Sofony Silver, were still alive and kicking, hatred kept brewing in her heart. The discomfort and pain was there. The humiliation never left her skin, especially as she could never forget the dirty deeds she committed with Gu Yimu after the latter forced herself on him.
She always waited for results to come while feeling the searing agony in her heart. Bits and pieces of images popped up in her head from time to time.
'When will those two die?' It had become a question most frequently repeated in her head.
Unfortunately, the news she was waiting never arrived. She also never heard from Gu Yimu, that pervert that she also hated and daily cursing to die.
To not be so downhearted by the recent turn of events that were all not so favorable to her, she chose to devote most of her time in troubling Starlight's artists. Of course, she was also cleaning up her own and recruiting new talents and employees to recover from the calamity that had befallen the company last time.
Well, while those troubles seemed big and crippling to others, in reality, the Morgans' foundation could not be easily shaken like that. Manpower was easy to replace since they have money, and deals, shows, projects were not going anywhere far because her family's influence was extensive. Their foundation was robust enough to not easily sway their partners' trust in them. After all, Amelia's entertainment company was just one of the many enterprises and businesses owned by the Morgans.
Getting things back in the track had not been difficult for her since she was also very capable as a leader and a businesswoman.
Maybe if there was something that she found so difficult to bring back, it could only be her normal behavior when in Marc Boldwin's presence.
The woman was quite a weird type. She perfectly knew her fiancé was not the kind to control the thing in his pants, yet she was still very conscious of presenting the best and pure her to him in their future wedding. Even though the other was a womanizer who had long lost every bit of innocence in his soul and body, starting on the day she got bedded by the C-Empire elite, she felt guilty, a part of her dictating she was now unworthy of him.
Perhaps, Amelia really had something for the guy to act like this. Behind her tough, cold, strict, and utilitarian exterior lies a traditional faithful lover waiting for her betrothed to realize her worth and become loyal to her too.
It was probably the reason why she suddenly urged her family to talk about the marriage between them, catching all the Morgan family members off-guard. In fact, the news also reached the Boldwins even before the Morgans could put finish discussing this to themselves, and they too were very surprised.
While these people were having all sorts of opinions and guesses about the matter, Amelia was anxiously waiting for a decision to be passed. Both for business and personal reasons, she badly wanted to proceed with the union between them. Of course, the major part was due to her selfishness and fears.
But could a guy who had been too loose for a long period of time and obsessed with competing with Gio easily agree to suddenly commit to a woman, even if that person had been his fiancée for years already?
And even if he did, would his heart really settle for her?
Well, albeit a bit surprising, Marc Boldwin did accept the proposal, agreeing to marry Amelia in three months. However, he had been too half-hearted about the subsequent matters and preparations.
"A wedding won't deter me from my current modus," in a party he attended with his friends, the famed bachelor laughingly popped champagne and poured himself a glass of it.
"You mean, your resume of competition against Gio Albarez upon his return?" interjected a flirty girl who knew some bits of knowledge of his beef with the other young tycoon.
Marc hugged the slim waist of the woman and playfully landed a kiss on her luscious lips, "Babe, I like how witty you are to get my meaning almost so immediately."
Pleasant laughter reverberated after. The man took a mouthful of his drink and stared outside the transparent glass wall of the bar. Looking into the distance, in the direction where Starlight's main building was located, a corner of his lips rose up.
'Since Gio is back, my interest in stealing Sofony Silver from him also returned. Wouldn't it more fun now since she has become his fiancée?'
Unaware that his own fiancée was near the breaking point due to the most recent turn of events, the man who also didn't know that his target was not even in this world anymore laughed too.
