My shield could block anything, the only problem would be that my body was not strong enough to do the same. I dug my feet deep into the ground, but I was still pushed back almost fifteen meters, digging furrows into the ground as I braced my self against the onslaught of muscular bodies. It was like having an intense work out, and my shoulders and feet burned as proof.
They came to a stop, and my soldiers pounced on them. Even though most of them were ran over by the formation, they all had pay back in mind. It was a rather straight forward formation, but a formation like that can only be used when you're trying to break through a line, a barricade, or another formation. It was deadly, but against vampires who can heal from almost anything, it was useless.
To cause us any lasting damage, he had to have enough soldiers, that way if the stampede lasted for as long as say, 30 to 60 seconds, then they would have stomped any body in their path to paste. But such a straight forward charge, has to be very exhausting, so if they can't break through their enemy's line or defense in one charge, then it would have been a futile and useless mission.
I released my weave, and had my shield hung over my back. That was a mistake, I couldn't react fast enough, and ended up having a metal pillar smashed into my back. Even with my armor, I could feel my bones break, and my ribs shatter as they pierced into my organs. As if that wasn't enough, I was smashed into the pile up of rhino men and their extremely tough bodies, not to mention horns.
An ambush, and one well planed; seeing how I felt like crap. All of a sudden the rhino men got up and made a rather peculiar circle. They interlocked themselves into a circular dome, with some of them standing on the shoulders of their neighbor, until the dome completely covered me, cutting me off from my soldiers. It was another formation, but this was one for defense; a turtle shell kind of defense.
I felt my bones pop back into place as I got back up to my feet; only to have that metal pillar smash into my gut. Sending me towards the wall of bodies, only to feel a rebounding force that threw me back, rattling my entire body in the process.
Apart for the fact that I think all my organs were now liquefied, which was not true, but with the pain I'm feeling right now, I'm willing to believe that there was nothing inside of me right now. I puked; a gross combination of blood and the rice I had for breakfast. I felt weak, and my senses were severely weakened. What ever this formation was, it sapped me of my strength. But I was not completely helpless.
I was trapped, and I'm sure their defense was still just as strong, I just needed to beat the idiot waving a metal pillar around like it was some sort of baseball bat. I still felt a little woozy, but I had a lot of anger right now. I've fought worse and won, but I was getting my ass kicked by a pig from the Savannah.
I felt the air move, and it took sheer instincts for me to move and dodge to the side. The pillar slammed into the spot where I was a few seconds ago, raising a small cloud of dust that obscured mine and my enemy's vision.
I shot forwards, angling my shoulders and wincing a little as I slammed it into my opponent's midsection. The spear to the gut, carried both of us to the wall of this rhino man enclosure. But the moment we got close enough, an energy pulse was released that threw us both back.
There was a loud bang as his metal pillar fell to the ground. I scrambled to my feet, ignoring the pain inside of me as I ran towards my opponent. However the next thing he did was to jump into the shadow realm, completely evading a knee to the face.
Now I understood how I was ambushed, and who it was that was ambushing me. I grabbed my sword, and turned, swinging it just in time to parry the metal pillar. I felt my hands vibrate as I was pushed back a few steps.
As far as weapons go, he had me beat. He had the strength required to swing that metal pillar like it was just an ordinary tooth pick, so using a sword against him was out of the question. And every attempt I've made to use my special skills, have all fallen through.
I don't know how they were doing it, but this rhino men were creating a distortive field that completely scrambled or made it extremely difficult for me to use my skills, leaving me with only my physical abilities, completely helpless as their master beat me to death. Jaderon swung the pillar again, but I stepped back, barely evading the deadly weapons as it flew past my face.
I shot forwards, digging my blade into the ground in the process, when I was close enough I flicked my sword upwards, watching with bated breaths as a cloud of dust flew into his eyes.
I don't know if he's as affected as I was from the formation, but whether that was true or not, I had an opening. He stepped back a bit, swinging the pillar erratically as he tried to clear his eyes. But I slipped past his guard, and came up from behind him, slicing at both his ankles and elbows.
Those injures would be healed enough in seconds, but it was enough time for me to bring the tall brute to his knees and stab my sword from the top of his right shoulder, straight down into his body. It was as if I had turned his body into a sheath for the sword.
"Grooooar!"
"Don't be such a baby,I'm sure it doesn't hurt that much." I said, making sure to twist the blade in the process, eliciting another roar from him.
His fellow rhino men called out to him once they saw he was captured. But breaking the formation would free me from what ever effect that was dampening and canceling my abilities, and once that happens, I would rain hell on them. I twisted the sword again and pulled my shield, reducing it's size until all that was left was a thin metal disk on my hand, with a very sharp edge. An edge that was placed right next to Jaderon's heart.
"Now listen to me big guy, I have a few questions for you. The answers you give would probably decide whether you live or not." I said to him, still twisting the sword for emphasis and pushing my shield into his skin.
"How am I supposed to trust your words. I heard you promised your people to kill every single person responsible for the attack on your city."
Well he does have a point. And I really made it a point of duty to stick to my promises, it's the mark of a great leader. And to be honest, Iwasn't feeling very forgiving at the moment.
"Well you wouldn't know unless you try. Whether you talk or not, the information you give might prove to be worthless, and I'll just as easily kill you, and your stupid cronies. But if you still want a chance to live then you have to take a leap of faith and talk."
He looked at me and let out a sigh of defeat. "Fine, what do you want to know."
"Excellent, first tell me about both Formations you've used so far, it's tickled my interest. And I want them too." I said to him with a smile on my face.
"Even if I hand it over to you, only a rhino man of royal blood from the Iron skin tribe can lead the core of the formation. And at the moment that's just me and my seven year old daughter who has not even had the chance to learn how to yell at a person, much less fight. The formation draws from the essence of ancient rhinoceros beast, to be more precise it stimulates the spirit of our ancestor within us. The formation can be expanded to be stronger, longer and more lethal by adding more people to it, regardless of race. Besides we're all vampires here, we just look different. Anyway a royal rhino man can control the formation right from the middle, and connect the collective essence and strength of fighters within the formation to create an unstoppable spear or battering ram in a battle. Problem is that it consumes a lot of energy and stamina, and its quite taxing on a body. Which is why rhino men are most suitable for the formation. but as vampires, that problem is eliminated due to our self healing bodies. We just have to worry about running out of energy.
The second formation is more mysterious, but a special material is needed for it. And that material is Ionite. The Ionite is mixed with a metal compound that has the repulsive properties of a magnet. Ionite is a compound capable of existing in the three states of matter, but it's true power lies in it's ability to nullify any ability and magic, technological or otherwise. The magnetic compound repels the iron in a persons blood, so they're pushed back, completely unable to attack the formation in close quarters, and have to fight from a distance to cause any real damage."
I can't kill this guy. I noticed that this days, my darkness and dark thoughts are always at the forefront of my actions, making me a whole lot more ruthless and blood thirsty, but I'll be nothing more than a stupid fool if I don't take advantage of this vampire, rhino man thing.
"How willing are you to live? How much value does the life of your men, and their families hold to you. How much value does your daughter's life have in your eyes." I asked him, twisting my sword and pushing it deeper into his body. There was a hiss of air, and raspy groan from his mouth, as I did so. Looks like I might have hit a lung....oops.
"They're my family, their value to me is immeasurable." He replied.
"Good, then we're settled here. You and all your cronies would be my prisoners for the next 50 years. In that time, you live on my orders, do what I say, how I say it, and when I say it. In that time unless I say so! you're not to step a single foot out of Ethernalia Leonis, or every woman, man and child connected to you will die. And that sentence extends to your followers. In that time, you will share everything you know about formations, or any other skill you might be hiding to my people. You'll be taken care of, fed, given honest jobs, but in the end you'll have no power and will be nothing more than a common slave. Do you have any misgivings, because if you do please speak up so that I can massacre you all, and get home in time for dinner."
"No there are no misgivings...….thank you for your mercy master Kael."
Though he had to say those words through gritted teeth, he wasn't wrong. I did just show him mercy. I gave his followers a look, and in seconds they brought down the formation, and got on their knees to surrender. The look of relief on Kuyait's face when she saw me, almost made me laugh. They really should have more confidence in me.
"Now Jaderon, tell me what possessed all of you to follow Cornelius Daneaitani, and launch an attack on my city. And please tell me where I can find that weasel." I asked with an edge to my voice.
"Cornelius is no longer in the blue district. Last I heard, he had ran to seek refuge in the red district. But the thing is, we didn't follow him to attack the city, it was someone else who brought all of the gangs together under Cornelius's rule; in order to attack your city. He's just a pawn like the rest of us, a well connected pawn though." Jaderon mumbled the last part in anger.
The first name that came to mind was Adein, he was the only person with the power to do this, It has to be him. That bastard really wanted to die a lot earlier than I intended. Unless he had a weaver hiding under his bed, I'm sure he should be experiencing a torment that's equal to hell on earth.
"It's Shamir!"
"What?"
"The person who orchestrated the attack, Is Shamir the unsealed. And he has an army of his own too."
