Our pace was steady and sure, though the fact that we're not fighting any monsters certainly felt weird. But we knew not to get used to it. We didn't see all the wolves die, rather for some reason they ran away, showing a surprising amount of intelligence rather than frenzied attacks they've been carrying out against us.
But all those aside, there was sense of excitement in the air, it didn't stem from fear, because honestly fear was an emotion vampires hardly felt. But it was from the anticipation of experience, of experiencing something new, different and exciting. of enjoying a really goo fight. When we got to the bend, the Canyon spread open into a wide field. It was green, an oasis, but its water was putrid green. The field was really wide, it more like an open plain, a perfect battlefield to say the least, and the walls of the canyon in this plain opened up into hundreds of caves. And within those caves were scores, upon scores of wolves. We had finally found where they're coming from, this was their den, but what truly drew our attention, was the monstrosity soaking in the middle of the oasis.
It was like an onion, and it had bulbous like proportions on it's body like pimples of warts. However those protrusions were transparent, and from within them, I could see the wolves, being made or to be technical, being gestated. This was their mother, and it was not some massive mama wolf made of metal, it was, it was.....well it was this!
"That's a cursed nurse Maid!" Queen said from beside me.
"A what now?"
"A cursed nurse maid; they're a product of old vampire magic, very old magic. They breed monsters, and just like a dungeon they work with the DNA of a monster, and come up with variations for them, different evolutions and forms each with unique abilities. The created monsters are never truly strong, but the real advantage is about how rapidly they can spawn this monsters and how numerous they can be. Just like plants, there are planted within special spots of power to draw energy and power from a natural source. Those spots could include and are not limited to, Ley lines, magic springs, fountains of youth, and a large deposit of mana water."
"So what's it planted on?" I asked her.
"To be honest I don't know, with how messed up that water is, it would take nothing short of miracle to restore it back to its normal form. This also explains why the monsters were so few, and we had to face three alphas instead of thousands. The nurse maid has exhausted it's resources, and it's currently on it's death bed. Though it could prolong it's life by feeding on blood, vampire blood."
"No wonder it kept sending wolves to attack us. So I guess we have to fight and kill it."
"Do you want to keep it as a pet? If not then yes, we have to kill it."
There was no prepared formation to be used in such an open plain. I made preparations for the canyon pass based on the Information I was given, but Kodak and his crew never got this far, but it was not a problem. And open field was just what all of this vampires really needed to let loose. There was no other option available than to let all of the vampires engage in melee combat and so I did just that.
"Attack!"
As if my command was also what they were waiting for, but the monsters within the caves surfer forward like the waves of an ocean, pouring out of their caves like water from a faucet. My vampires did not disappoint and met the charge with their own, and it was really explosive.
BANG!
Shields blocked and weapons flashed as the soldiers flew into the crowd of monsters, fighting and killing with reckless abandon. They all had the space they needed to fight without worrying about hurting their fellow vampire, unlike the canyon pass and restrictive terrain, this plain was just what the doctor ordered. Each vampire reaped the lives of the monsters in droves, blood splashed into the air, the elements roared as steel bit into flesh, it was an all out brawl.
Queen made her moved as she shot towards the nurse maid, her spear sparking with electricity as she pointed it at the bulbous monstrosity. She was so fast that I could barely keep track of her, but the nurse maid suddenly created a barrier of putrid green gas, that even though it looked intangible, was as solid as iron. There was a massive clang, as Queen and her weapons bounced of the barrier, incapable of cashing even a scratch to it. But it didn't end there as a tentacle, that looked like a weird combination of hundreds of wolves legs, came out of the side of nursemaid and smacked into Queen. She could hardly put up a defense as the weird looking tentacle sent her flying through the air, only to go crashing through one of the caves, and collapsing it in the process.
That's bound to hurt, but I'm sure she was okay. But as for the nursemaid, it was relatively unharmed as the weird barrier around it, kept it safe from the attacks of other vampires. Every move that was made, just bounced off the barrier, and it released three more tentacles, of which two seemed to be made of tongues, one of eyeballs, and the other like the inside of an animals stomach. Even as a vampire; creatures who were considered bloody monsters, this sight was a little revolting for me. The tentacles flashed across the battlefield, sending my soldiers and a lot of the wolves flying every which way. I don't think this monstrosity of biological proportions cared about the wolves that it had spawned, all it wanted to do was cause as much damage as it can, to the people attacking it's home.
I ran towards it, my sword held behind me as my soul energy surges through it. The surface of my sword rippled and it's blue edge lit up fiercely, and the a rune circle showed up on top of the blade. Hovering over it like a massive hologram. But that was not the only play made, as I infused my soul energy into my shield too, placing it in front of me, as I made a beeline for the nursemaid. One of it's tentacles flashed and shot towards me.
BANG! [SHIELD]
The soul rune showed up in massive golden form, that spread through half the battlefield, protecting quite a number of vampires from it's attacks. The nursemaid began to feel threatened as it ignored the other vampires, and chose to focus on bringing me down, slamming ne tentacle after another at my shield. It couldn't break through my shield, but the jarring impacts from each hits, had already made me loose feeling in my left shoulder, it was completely numb. But that was enough, I was close enough now to use this move without hurting any of my soldiers by accident.
[BREAK] BANG! CRACKLE! CRASH!
This barrier was smoky and weird looking, but after the beam from the soul rune slammed into it, it fell apart like glass or maybe ice. But whatever the case, it seems that the nursemaid was completely vulnerable now, and was susceptible to attacks. But the bloody monster made a move I didn't expect. It released an ungodly howl, a piercing scream that made me feel nauseous and a little delirious.
Then every wolf on the battlefield, Injure or not, as long as it was till alive, moved. They ran towards the nursemaid, and began to jump at it's body. What happened next would probably give me chills and nightmares for a very long time, if I survive this. The wolves began to meld and combine in a rather grotesque manner, fur giving way to flesh, bone and organs as the nursemaid grew along with it wolves, gaining mass, and size until standing over us was a monster almost twenty five meters tall, twice as long, and definitely as dangerous as it's size portrays.
They had all combined into a giant wolf that was all skin and bones, with the only patch of fur running from the crown of it's head to the tip of its weird tail, well tails, considering there were five of them, and each made from tongues that were covered with protrusions that could only be the fangs of the wolves. The surface of it's skin rippled as thousands of wolf eyes, ran rampant over it's skin like a bad case of lice, and on it's huge head, it had no eyes, only the form of the nursemaid nestled comfortably on the forehead. This entire scene was the single most terrifying thing I've ever seen, and I like to think I've seen a lot of terrifying things.
But honestly what were the vampires of old thinking when they made this bloody thing. It was hideous, and now we had to clean up their mess. I couldn't help but resent those guys a bit, it seemed every choice they've made so far, has put the vampires of this generation in a bad spot. They were total idiots. I looked up at the mew monster nurse wolf?Things and said to it.
"Is there no way I can convince you to talk about this, there's no need to get all violent about it."
ROOOOOOOAAAARRRRRR
"Okay, good talk. I totally understand. Hey guys!.......kill it!"
