Obviously Shamir was more familiar with the shadow realm than I was, which meant he was faster than me. But Asha was stronger and faster by virtue of being an elder which meant she was catching up to him. And due to the fact that the flow of time within the shadow realm was way faster than the real world, we had already moved away from the red district, and was rapidly approaching the white district. Which means, without a doubt, Shamir would probably have his allies ready to back him up the moment we got there.
He was leading us into a trap, which meant I had to out an end to his advancement, and it had to happen right now. If there was ever a time I needed an ability of mine to work, it was right now. And so I closed my eyes and took a leap of faith, for some reason Shamir was fast enough to keep away from me within the shadow realm, but there were many ways to catch a fish.
(Minor Teleportation!)
The feeling this time was jarring, and a little bone chilling. However it only lasted for a moment as I showed up in front of Shamir and sent a clothesline to his neck, spinning him in the air too many times to count as he fell back to the ground with an obviously broken collar bone.
[Minor Teleportation has evolved to full technique Teleportation, all recipients of your power crest will now have their Teleportation skill evolved too.]
I ignored the system prompt as I sent a kick to Shamir's midsection, sending him backwards towards Asha, who in turn slayed her elbow on his back, bringing him back down to the ground, with a loud crack accompanying his fall. He rolled on the ground for a bit, and just enough that he landed right in front of me as I stomped on his chest, hard. We were both stronger and faster than Shamir, and the only advantage he has had this whole time was the fact that he had a head start, and the shadow realm worked differently from the real world.
I grabbed Shamir by the throat, and gave Asha a look as we left the shadow realm. We ended up a little ways into the white district, well under the sights of hundreds of vampires who seemed to have gathered here in anticipation of something. I recognized one of those vampires as Cornelius, and the other who's name eludes me at the moment as Queen'sbrother and descendant of the first Dracula.
They were all quite surprised to see us, but that didn't change the course of my current action. I slammed a punch in Shamir's midsection, and just in time to, as he tried clawing at my face. He seemed to fold around my fist, and using my fist as a lever, I raised him over my head and slammed him on the ground again, leaving behind a meter deep and almost three meter wide crater.
This fight could have ended already, but it seems Asha and I really had every intention of punishing this monster of a vampire. For as long as we could both remember, he has been a part of the problems that has been plaguing us, and we never did anything to the bastard, he just wanted to hate us, I mean come on, how does that make sense. If it was about Xaseah, then I would have understood he acted out of jealousy or something of the sort.
But this guy was a psychopath! A tire definition of the word insane, and because of his whims and petty jealousy, so many people had died, so many innocent children. There was no doubt or question about it, this idiot here has to die, it was the only way we could ever move forward as a race and as a people. They all had to die, every vampire that would be a problem and stumbling block to our future, has to be eradicated, or else they'll come bite us in the ass later.
"So are you going to kill me now? Are you vampire enough for it? You should be careful though, as this is not your blue district, and every vampire you see here, believes in our cause, they believe in the purity of our bloodline. You make any other move, and they'll tear you apart limb from limb like the trashy animal you are!" Shamir said to me, with a wild grin on his face.
He was right though, I wanted to avoid going deep into the White district, but who knew these bastards would be so close by. Since the mountain went down, the lights that demoted the districts were gone, and we were all just relying on our knowledge of the boundaries to know where we are. But either way, the light of the moon, was enough to let see Shamir's somewhat bloody face, and it was filled with confidence. He was so sure I wasn't going to kill him, not without bringing down the wrath of his entire coven of fanatics on mine and Asha's head.
But he really was an idiot though, and that was because I wasn't the only one who chased him. And Asha, was more decisive when it comes to things like this than I was. And ever since she became a mother, it's been worse, like much, much worse. She had grown stronger and more resolute, ready to face every threat and problem head on. Which was why she stepped up to Shamir, and shaved her hands through his back, grasping his heart.
"Arrrgghhhhhhh! Aaaaaaahhhhhh!"
He was obviously feeling a lot of pain, to a point that I couldn't even imagine. But the funny thing was that, none of his so called companions were moving or making an attempt to save him. They just left him there, his neck in my hands, his body hanging from it, and Asha's fist within his body. It was quite a sight to be honest, and the obvious betrayal happening right now, made his pain all the more worse.
"What are you guys doing, help me! Arghhh!" Shamir shouted at them with a frenzied look in his eyes.
But still they did nothing, they kept silent, neither moving an inch, or even breathing in a manner that showed they cared. To be honest I felt sorry for Shamir, but only for a moment, as this was what he chose, this life, with this sort of people. Without a doubt, nothing good was ever going to come out of this. But above all I felt disgusted at this coven of his, their blatant disregard for his life, someone who's actually one of their leaders, yet they didn't care about his life or death, and just stood there watching. I wouldn't want to brag, but no one from Ethernalia Leonid would do this, we looked out for each other.
"You see this Shamir, the people you so trusted and thought would save you. They're letting you die, betraying you for reasons known only to them, but maybe to you. And the fact that your partner in crime Cornelius is standing there, means that even the person you trust stuck a knife in your back. You've reaped what you've sown, and believe I take great pleasure in the words I'm about to say to you."
And then I kept silent looking at the frightened gaze of this monster in front of me. Asha was the one who answered him, and with such flair I think I fell in love with her again.
"Karma's A Bitch!"
And the she crushed his heart, while I pulled his trachea out from within the confines of his throat. My move was not required, but at the very least I had to make a statement. Shamir's body rapidly turned grey, desiccated, and leathery. And soon enough, it began to flake over, and peel off, until all that was left of the once fearsome vampire was nothing more than dust.
If I had to be honest, this was rather anticlimactic. I was expecting an epic showdown, one that's going to be told for generations to come, and tales would be spurned from it in a variety of colorful ways. But this was just.....dull. One minutes he was alive, and the next he was dead, completely useless and cut off from the rest of the world as he became nothing more than energy. I could have destroyed his soul too, but I was much too reluctant to touch the damn thing, Shamir's death wasn't as satisfying as I would have wanted it to be.
But then I realize death should never be satisfying. I felt nothing from this, because Shamir dying was necessary. I understood that fact, and embraced it. I thought I was chasing him, to take revenge for all his transgressions, but now I realize I wasn't doing it for revenge, just punishment. I felt a responsibility to ending him, like a sort of cold and calculative mental decision that put's the lives of thousands if not millions at my disposal.
Shamir had to die for the vampire race to truly live and grow, and now that he's dead, there was no excitement to it. Only a vague sense of achievement that I had done what was required, and ready to move on to the next task. It was weird, because to be honest I wasn't used to feeling or being so....so…..cold. It didn't make sense to me, because not even fifteen minutes ago, I was a bloodthirsty monster killing every Serpentis in sight.
"Are you satisfied now lord Kael? The culprit of this war has paid for his crimes." Cornelius said to me, as he took a step forward.
At first I was confused, and couldn't make heads of tails of what he meant, before it hit me. Shamir was dead, heck they even allowed me to kill him, so without a doubt, he was the scape goat they had chosen. Without a doubt, this war would have turned ugly for everyone involved, including and especially the purist coven. So this was a way for them to pull themselves out from this brewing shit storm, however they couldn't have just decided to betray Shamir like that. He still had soldiers on the battlefield, that he left behind when he decided to flee.
Things weren't adding up, and it was driving me crazy. If they wanted to punish the culprits, how come Cornelius was not already dead. It would be better for them if they cut off all ties from both Shamir and Cornelius, because as long as Cornelius is still alive, enemies will keep coming after them for revenge. And no matter how strong they were, I doubted they would have been withstand the onslaught,it with out numbers, and especially not with Baeki around.
So the only other explanation would be, that they thought Shamir was the only person responsible for this war. Which means they we there didn't know Cornelius was a part of it, or they were pretending he wasn't. But that want stand with the Nagas, they knew Cornelius was also responsible for this war, which brings me to the conclusion that the purist vampires, have no idea Cornelius also fanned the flames of this war. Which meant he was most probably the one who betrayed Shamir by ratting him out to the coven, and absolving himself of any sin.
And with Shamir dead, assuming he thinks I don't know, there was no one to call him out immediately, giving him enough time to most probably slip out, never to be found again. After all, he answered to the council of light, with the proper amount of information, he would probably be protected by them. It was a wild gamble, and I couldn't help but agree that it almost worked. Almost.
"No I'm not satisfied, and until I'm satisfied, I'm going to keep coming back here, and I'll start killing all of you every time I come by. Picking you off and ending your life, one by one until you're all dead. And that big boss of yours who thinks he's so powerful because he's about to become a Dracula, well I'll let him deal with Baeki instead. You all should know that she's already free." I said to Cornelius with a smile, as I turned around and grabbed Asha's hand.
"What can we do to repair our relations lord Kael, a war between our factions will not be good for the development of our race. Now more than ever, we need to work together." Cornelius said, drawing affirmative nods from the vampires around him.
This guy was good, too good in fact. His ability to manipulate the crowd with his words was second to none. No one I knew could do it the way he did, but even his eloquent words won't save him from my wrath.
"If you want me to be satisfied, not just burn the entire white district to the ground, then what you all have to do is simple. In three days, you will deliver the criminal Cornelius Daneaitani to the blue district to undergo trial for the crimes of leading an attack on the city Ethernalia Leonid, coating the lives of thousands of people. And for also colluding with the now deceased criminal Shamir the unsealed, into instigating a war with the Serpentis race, and for the attempted kidnap of myself. If he goes missing within these three days, all of you will die, if he's delivered to me dead, you die, if he's a puppet, a fake or an illusion, you die. You bring that criminal to my doorstep to answer for his crimes, and I might consider asking Baeki to pardon all you traitors. But until then, see ya'll later."
And then I carried Asha up, unfurled my wings, and flew away into the approaching sunlight. My enemies already whispering and pointing fingers at Cornelius, as I left his dirty laundry out in the open for them. I would really like to see how they react, but until then, I just wanted to go home.
