Seeing Biederman's response, the reporter was dead. It seemed that Biederman really didn't know about Tang Yan, he could only helplessly say: "Tang Yan, he came in fifth in the preliminaries, he's the other Chinese swimmer who made it into the final alongside Sun Yang. "
"Oh, is it?" Biederman still didn't seem to recognize Tang Yan but he continued and said, "I don't really notice these things, I try to focus on my own thing but since he was able to reach the finals, he must be very good. I wish him the best of luck tonight. "
Having said this, the head coach of the German team called for him. Seeing a way out he said sorry and he left.
In fact, most of the finalists would recieve look at the list for the finals. Biederman however didn't seem to consider anyone apart from Sun Yan and Park Tae Hyun as competitors.
After a while, Sun Yang and Tang Yan got out of the pool.
As soon as they came up, the group of reporters hurriedly changed direction and all rushed over.
"Sun Yang, are you confident of winning tonight?"
"Sun Yang, do you have anything to say about the abnormal performance of Park Tae Hyun?
"Sun Yang, Biederman said earlier that his goal is to win gold. Do you have anything to say?"
...
After being surrounded, the reporters bombarded them in turn.
Tang Yan was slightly awkward standing next to Sun Yang at this time.
Sun Yang's outstanding performance made the reporter's spearhead their questions to him, but no one bothered with Tang Yan.
Sun Yang quickly began to answer. His charismatic personality shown through, he had the reporters laugh from time to time, but the central message was very clear, he wanted gold.
After they finished questioning Sun Yang, the reporters finally seemed to notice Tang Yan standing beside him.
"Beidelman said in an interview earlier that he didn't know who you were. What do you make of this?" Just then, the reporter who had previously questioned Beidelman finally squeezed in and asked.
Tang Yan glanced up at the reporter, cursing him internally.
What a loaded question, he had to tread carefully.
"Paul Biederman holds the 400-meter world record, right?"
"Yes, he set a world record at the 2009 World Championships in Rome." The reporter replied affirmatively.
"Oh." Tang Yan nodded thoughtfully.
The other reporters looked at him in doubt.
"He's a veteran in the field with global achievements whilst I'm a newbie, it's to be expected. I'll just have to work to make sure they remember the name." Tang Yan said steadily.
"Perhaps one day I can eventually break a world record, maybe even his"
The reporter who asked the question almost dropped the microphone in his hand and the other reporters looked at him startled.
Sun Yang looked surprised.
Breaking his world record?
Biedermann's world record was 3 minutes and 40 seconds, let alone Sun Yang or Park Tae-hyun, Biedermann himself had no confidence in achieving it again.
Tang Yan wasn't bragging. His half-hearted moves in the morning had been enough to make it into the top five. He believed in the future with the system, he would have a shot at breaking Bidelman's record.
"Is this a response to Biedermann remarks?" The reporter who first asked the question responded, and asked.
"No, this is just a goal I've set for myself. The aim tonight is to make sure the Chinese flag rises in the Shanghai Sports Center."
After Sun Yang and Tang Yan, Park Tae-hyun, Van der Kay, and Meroli were all interviewed by the reporters. Without exception, their goal was to win gold tonight.
....
Before the race started, the atmosphere was already tense.
"Relax, don't take on too much pressure, just exert your full strength." Shen Qing said encouraging Tang Yan in the locker room.
Tang Yan nodded with a small smile.
The swimmers appeared one by one from backstage, and the appearance of each famous swimmer caused the audience to cheer.
Park Tae-hyun's debut ignited more than half of the stadium.
After Park Tae Hyun, was Tang Yan.
With Tang Yan's debut, the audience's response was very one sided with only the Chinese audience responding to his appearance.
After Tang Yan was Sun Yang, Sun Yang's debut completely ignited the entire venue. The cheers were deafening, showing that the audience had the highest expectations for him.
After the swimmers came out, they peeled down to their swimming suits and wore their swimming goggles. After everything was ready, they then stepped onto the take-off platform.
Just as the swimmers came up, the media broadcasters on the sidelines also started to follow up.
"Tonight is likely to be a historic moment for the Chinese swimming team. The Chinese team will be hoping to hit a medal possibly even gold." The commentator for the Chinese station CCTV could hardly hide his inner excitement.
"Biedermann has showed good form in the preliminaries. Even though the finals hold many powerful opponents, he's still a strong contender. " A German commentator said appearing confident.
"The reigning champion, Park Tae-Hyun will be up tonight to defend his gold medal tonight. A South Korean commentator said also full of excitement.
...
"On your marks!"
"Get Set!"
Buzz!
As the commentators finished up, with the sound of the buzzer, the swimmers dove into the water.
At the beginning of the race, Park Tae-hyun took the lead. Although he was in an unfavorable position in lane 1, it seemed to have no effect. He didn't observe his opponents and chose a full sprint method.
After Park Tae-hyun, Biederman and Van der Kaye were ranked second and third respectively and Sun Yang was fourth.
Because of his height disadvantage, Tang Yan ranked behind Meroli after diving in and gliding, when they surfaced out of the water, he was in sixth place.
"Sun Yang! Come on!" The Chinese commentator at the scene yelled out seeing such a skewed start.
"A disappointing start, Sun Yang need to pick up the rhythm!" The commentator said emotional.
