[UNEDITED: Tell me if your eyes are bleeding already with my bloody chapters. Still no editor. Sigh-]
Luo shook her head and continued, "honestly, it was just a wild guess I came up with. That Duncan would plant a man that would pretend as him, a scapegoat. But I guess I'm right. He did plant a scapegoat bearing his face."
"He intentionally raised my son… But why?" Lucas whispered as his glare never left the man sitting in front of his son. The man who took his wife and his son away from him.
There was only deafening silence inside the room where Gavin confronted Damiel. Gavin patiently waited.
Duncan turned to look around and yelled, "Do you see me, Lucas? Can you see now how incompetent you are? Look how well I raised your son! Cecilia will be proud of how well I raised Gavin! Unlike how weak you raised his twin! Like you!!!"
"Why? Why raise me?" Gavin asked, suppressing all the emotions inside of him.
"Because you are Cecilia's son. The son of the woman I love. Cecilia is my world, son, like how you are my world now..."
"I am not your son! You killed my mother!" Gavin shouted with gritted teeth.
"Cecilia… I love her so much, so why would I kill your mother… I just…"
Duncan looked lost as he stutteringly explained, "I just want to talk to her and convince her to come with me."
"I need to know what happened that day. If you really love me and consider me as your son, then you would tell me everything. I deserve to know what happened that day to my mother, please…" Gavin begged. It would be a consolation to know if Duncan did not kill his mother with his bare hands.
Seeing how eager Gavin wanted to know and understand the truth, Duncan started talking about the past.
"That day… I planned everything well that day for us to run away together. I picked her up, but her doctor unexpectedly tagged along. I had no choice but to execute the plan since we had a limited time frame. I talked to Cecilia, and she agreed to go with me if I let her doctor go. But that doctor is a pain in the ass. She insisted on staying, saying Cecilia needed her because her pregnancy was sensitive since Cecilia was carrying a twin. No one knew that, even me, and it turned out that Cecilia wanted to surprise Lucas, so she intentionally hid that fact till his birthday."
"At that time when we were walking to the speedboat, Cecilia's stomach started to contract and ache. She had to deliver the baby… The doctor had no choice but to let Cecilia deliver right there, and you came out… A healthy baby boy. Cecilia, I thought she died giving birth to you, so I grabbed you to run, knowing the police were on my tail already. But that doctor… won't let me take you, so I had to do what I needed to do. I did what I had to do. I can't bring Cecilia with me, but I can take you with me…"
"You're responsible for Cedric's kidnapping too. I remembered it all. That day when I told you about Cedric… I heard you talking on the phone," Gavin weakly stated.
Duncan heaved a deep sigh and said, "I know you, son. You will not make this move unless you have enough evidence to make me rot in jail. I guess feigning ignorance will bring pain in your heart, right. You know I love you, and I'm willing to do anything for you."
Gavin did not comment. Duncan was right because his heart was aching too much, just talking with the father he grew up with like that. He was hoping that everything was just a simple nightmare and he would wake up and find out that it was not real… That the father he loved like his own blood was not the man responsible for every tragedy involving his real family.
"Why did you try to kidnap and hurt Cedric?" Gavin straightforwardly asked.
"Because you don't listen, son. I told you to let it go… That you and Cedric are just nothing but a doppelganger, and yet you still insisted on looking and meeting him. I had no choice. I can't afford to lose you once you find out the truth. Why do you have to disobey me? It's not on me, son… I don't have plans to hurt Cedric. I only want to kidnap him for a while for you not to see him. Things didn't go according to plan, and my men failed. They panicked when you two met on the ship, so they shot your brother instead."
"And Oliver… Do you have to kill him?" Gavin breathed.
Olivia, who was watching them from the other room, clenched her jaw. Her eyes were flaming as she glared at the man who killed Oliver.
Duncan laughed like a maniac and looked around as he shouted, "Hey Lucas! You coward, come inside here instead and face me. My son is asking why I did it when he should be asking how incompetent you were!"
Duncan looked at Gavin with a frown and, without batting an eye, said, "it's not me who killed Oliver but his stubborn sister who collaborated with the royal family instead of just following my instructions like her father. Oliver should have been alive by now if not for her sister and the incompetent Lucas meddling around my plans. If only Lucas gave away the power over the government to the officials, then Oliver would be here and happily married to his pregnant fiance."
"Heard that, Lucas? It's you and Olivia who killed Oliver. You two are responsible for that young man's death!"
"That's enough!" Gavin yelled as he stood up and banged the table.
"This is enough… Please don't make me see you like this anymore. Repent for your sin. As the King of this country, I sentence you to life imprisonment for all your crimes to the royal family. That's the last generosity I can give you for taking good care of me as your son all these years."
"However, you committed other crimes, and the court will give you a fair trial and judge you according to the law of this country. I will let Olivia handle your case according to her will. It will be the last time we will see each other, father. It will be the last time I will call you… Father…"
Gavin quickly turned around to leave the room as tears started falling down his cheeks.
"Son… Come back here… Son!" Duncan yelled and was about to go after Gavin, but Kevin and the royal guards stopped him and pinned Duncan on the wall as they cuffed Duncan's hands.
