Thank you to the 2 Anons for your Ko-Fi~
10AM, Imperial City International Airport.
The flight information at the Arrival Hall of the airport refreshed again and when the long-awaited flight number appeared, a glint flashed past Wang Lu’s eyes. Simultaneously, his whole heart lifted.
He’s here…. He’s finally here!
In a few minutes, KK will be getting off his plane to meet him. Today was the first of July, and it was the day that was agreed upon between KK and the company to come to Beijing.
Wang Lu stood up from he was sitting at the airport and grabbed the pick-up card that he had prepared in advance. Squeezing through the crowd, he stood at the front most row and hoisted the card with two ostentatious lines.
— KKKK look over here, please don’t pretend not to care or pay attention
Although the sentence was rather shameful to display in the crowd, as long as it could accomplish its intended effect of picking him up, Wang Lu could not be bothered to care more at that present moment. Compared to his face, his heart was more occupied with watching the people that were streaming out of the exit.
One of these people who were walking in front of him was KK, but which one was it?
Wang Lu felt like his heart was being tugged every time a traveller approached him. Or perhaps it was a knife that was hovering close to his heart, and with a flash of cold light, it could want his old life.
As the agent that brought KK up, the grievances that Wang Lu had, but were not privy to outsiders, were not few. And the most important one, up until now, was that he did not know how KK actually looked like.
Ever since he met KK, all the interactions between Wang Lu and KK were held over the internet. Although he had proposed numerous times to host a video call with KK, KK had always rejected the suggestion, insisting to stick with the communication medium of texting even for work.
Once was fine, but after being rejected several times, how could Wang Lu possibly misconstrue KK’s intentions? Not only did he not want to reveal his face, he chose not to turn on his camera for live broadcasts as well. From the early stages, Wang Lu already had a few guesses in his heart.
There was a high probability that KK’s appearance was not satisfactory.
But Wang Lu could not be faulted for thinking that. In the arena of game anchors today, having a little bit of talent and skill were considered as bonus points, whereas the attractiveness index of an anchor was the true weapon of destruction. As long as the game anchor’s face scored six points and above, they would have diehard fans gathering around to wait for the anchor to open their camera every day.
However, KK was a misnomer; no matter how many times the company suggested it, he refused to reveal his face. If it was not because it would incur a dog-blood easter egg of someone appearing when he should have been killed, then there was a ninety-nine percent chance that their attractiveness index was not high enough.
Contemplating to this point, Wang Lu sighed deeply.
Since KK had not shown much enthusiasm towards the live broadcast with the star celebrity Bai Yao, and tacking on the fact that KK had sounded dispirited and listless when he contacted him last night, Wang Lu had yet to divulge to KK the recent development that worried him:
An unforeseen event had befallen the matter of his live broadcast with Bai Yao.
The entire cast of MengMao TV anchors all knew that the live broadcasting with Bai Yao was equivalent to setting foot on the prosperous main road. When such a large cake was being placed in front of their eyes, everyone would want a taste. Originally, relying on the explosion of his popularity, KK should have claimed the cake. The most parlous part of it all was that there was no official announcement made about the live broadcast. And with the lack of an official stamp, the details were still susceptible to change.
And sure enough, just this morning, Wang Lu received a temporary notice that the company had invited several of the best anchors to the meeting with Bai Yao. The final choice ultimately belonged to Bai Yao, both to give respect to Bai Yao, and to sincerely convince the game anchors who stood on the same stage.
By announcing that, it was tantamount to telling KK to spit out the food he just consumed and then answer to heaven’s command. How could Wang Lu be happy? However, the matter that made him the most dissatisfied was what came next. After receiving the call, he had made some inquiries only to realise that while the company’s words of “everyone was equal” sounded incredibly nice, the truth of the matter was that the number of anchors who were called down to attend the meeting with Bai Yao regarding the live broadcast were only two.
Other than KK, there was another game anchor from MengMao TV by the name of Piaoluo.
How the matter was handled was glaringly obvious; Wang Lu would have seen through it even if he was a blind man. It was apparent that someone in the company had oiled their mouths and brought up the suggestion that the opportunity should be transferred to Piaoluo instead. If it was not for the fact that the previous decision about the broadcast could not be easily overturned, the matter would not have reached this point.
When mentioning Piaoluo, Wang Luo had a heart full of discomfort. Despite being aware that Piaoluo had been eyeing this opportunity early on, to the extent where he would send gifts to the four corners of the higher echelons, he had presumed that Piaoluo had given up since there were no movements from him after KK had been chosen as the representative. Amidst his self-congratulations, he had felt dastardly pleased with himself, but he did not expect that there would a surprise attack on the last day, and it came straight from the bottom.
Now that he thought about it, when had Piaoluo been inactive; he was secretly moving! He had been waiting for the day where he could take down his foe in one strike and snatch the broadcast!
Wang Lu’s forehead started dripping sweat. The airport was not warm; it was pure cold sweat oozing from his body.
These matters were supposed to be handled by him but he had been careless, and he even allowed Piaoluo to drill an opening for himself. Even if he kept debating about it, the fault of today lied with him, and now that it has reached this stage, there was no point crying over split milk. The counterattack was the most crucial thing now.
When he thought about that, the entirety of Wang Lu’s body went rigid, and his anxiety increased markedly.
That’s right, the company did not directly give the chance to Piaoluo. Rather, they allowed both Piaoluo and KK to meet Bai Yao together, which explained that the inter-personal relationships of the parties involved by a huge extent.
Everyone were strangers who had never met one another. The key to gaining Bai Yao’s favour was to leave a good impression on her, and the source of good impressions had always had these two factors: good conversational skills that could make people feel at ease and having an elegant and smart outward appearance.
And it just so happened that… Piaoluo had both.
Being able to control the atmosphere and being eloquent to their utmost ability and doing both of these things well was a prerequisite as an anchor in the gaming circles, and it was nothing worth paying attention to. But appearances were different. When inspecting the well-known gaming anchors of MengMao TV, Piaoluo might have the longest standing qualification but Howling Wolf had the highest number of fans. And the reason why Howling Wolf had the most fans was because his attractiveness index was fairly high. It was just a pity that his technique was not up to par as compared to his broadcasting specs, and it had turned into his blemish.
Following the same vein, King’s Glory had been popular for many years and anchors changed from one crop to the other but Piaoluo stood towering like a giant who did not fall; and the basis for it, beyond his passable mechanics, was because he was currently basking in the shine of his good looks. While it was not comparable to Howling Wolf, Piaoluo’s face value could still score an eight.
Even if his other aspects were not mentioned, it was definitely more than enough to give girls an impression that he had a handsome and spirited appearance.
With all the comparisons laid before him, Wang Lu’s chest started hurting as well.
To speak frankly, Wang Lu did not harbour any hopes where KK’s appearance was concerned, and his only heartfelt prayer was that KK was not too ugly. Additionally, considering KK’s age, even if he was not ugly or wretched looking, there was still the possibility that he had a face full of acne…
While his heart was throbbing with pain, the batch of travellers coming from the exit were getting closer and closer. With the huge crowd, Wang Lu’s eyes could not take it all in at the moment.
Mother…. He’s too ugly, let it not be him!
Wang Lu waved his pick-up card desperately, and stared at the crowd, dead-eyed. Fortunately, the person walked right past him, allowing Wang Lu to let out a breath of relief. However, before he could fully exhale, his gaze flitted towards an existence that was a little too prominent.
Among the crowd, one person was extremely tall in height, such that most people averaged around his chest area. With just one glance alone, the idiom ‘a crane in a flock of chickens’ came to mind subconsciously.
… There was someone who was that tall in real life?
From afar, it seemed like they had long hair… female? No, it could not be, with his posture, he was most definitely male.
In the short moment when his concentration faltered, the extremely tall man had already walked up right in front in him, taking down the pick-up card that he was raising up high with ease, especially since Wang Lu was in a daze.
Their distance was too close, and that person had to lower his head to look at him. With his back facing the light, Wang Lu saw the man open his mouth, and a very familiar voice sounded out, polite and lazy: “Hello, Brother Wang.”
T/N: KK has officially landed in Beijing!!
