Ji Xiaonian snapped back to reality and hurriedly pleaded, “Then, could you promise me not to harm Sister Shengjie in any way? He’s already pitiful enough.”
‘Sister Shengjie?’
‘That man earlier was definitely a male. Does this girl have a problem with her eyes or something? Why would she call him Sister?’
Bai Yan cast a suspicious glance at her.
Ji Xiaonian was looking at him as well. As if she knew what Bai Yan was thinking, the little girl pursed her lips and explained, “Um… So, back when I was little, I noticed how pretty he was and had mistaken him for a girl. As such, I called him Sister, but since he’s still as pretty as he was back then, I feel that it’s more appropriate to address him by Sister, teehee!”
“…”
A mocking smirk could be seen forming on the side of Bai Yan’s lips.
After a moment of silence, Bai Yan then asked, “Why did you go to the hospital? Were you feeling uncomfortable?”
Ji Xiaonian realized that Bai Yan had agreed to her plea, and he would probably not harm Yu Shengjie. As such, she decided to come clean. “Remember when you told me to wait at the same spot? Well, I did. I waited and waited, but you never came. Moreover, the sun’s blazing hot today, and as a result, I got heatstroke and fainted. It was Sister Shengjie who sent me to the hospital.”
As she continued to speak, Ji Xiaonian’s face gradually contorted into a pained expression. She grumbled. “Ignoring me was one thing, but how could you just yell at me like that without properly understanding the situation beforehand? Bai Yan, what am I to you?”
Ji Xiaonian looked at Bai Yan with reddened eyes, painting a picture of pure misery.
Bai Yan was initially focused on driving, but when he heard her words, he could not resist turning around to look at her. Upon seeing how pitiful she looked, an uncomfortable sensation rose within his chest.
“I’m sorry,” he answered in a casual tone.
Bai Yan regretted his actions deeply.
‘This girl is probably despairing right now, isn’t she?’
“All I want to know is what am I to you?” Ji Xiaonian widened her eyes and expectantly awaited an answer from him.
Despite being such a simple question, Bai Yan had remained silent.
Indeed, not only did he not answer, but, he had pretended not to hear her as he continued driving.
Ji Xiaonian waited for some time, but seeing as he had no intention to answer, Ji Xiaonian got depressed again and she was filled with self-loathing.
She turned silent and zoned out while staring out the window.
Bai Yan took a glance at her. Upon realizing that she was unhappy, the corner of his eyes twitched, and his breathing became slightly erratic.
In the end, Bai Yan had driven them to a luxury restaurant, one where the valets had rushed up to attend to Bai Yan upon arrival.
After exiting his car, Bai Yan realized that the girl was reluctant to leave. In response, Bai Yan then made his way to the opposite side of the vehicle and looked down at her from his towering height.
“Why aren’t you leaving the car?”
Ji Xiaonian lowered her head with dejection scribbled across her face. “I’m not hungry.”
She wanted to know what Bai Yan had made of her.
However, Bai Yan had not given a response, and as a result, she was in no mood to eat.
Bai Yan stared down at the little girl through the window. As if he had figured out what the little girl was thinking, Bai Yan hunched over, got close to her ear, and whispered, “We’re going to the movies after eating dinner here. I’ve already gone as far as to bring you to the movies, do you still not understand what you mean to me?”
He found it difficult to communicate the matters of the heart.
However, anyone who knew him well would have known the number of times he had gone to the cinemas with someone.
Indeed, Bai Yan had promised his virgin cinema visit to Ji Xiaonian, and if she was still clueless about his feelings despite his effort, Bai Yan would truly be at a loss.
Fortunately, it seemed that Bai Yan’s feelings had gotten through to Ji Xiaonian. She raised her head and noticed that Bai Yan was extremely close to her as if he were eagerly awaiting an answer from her. Upon that realization, Ji Xiaonian pursed her little lips and broke into a smile.
“Are you trying to take me on a date? So, you’ve finally agreed to be in a relationship with me?” For the first time in her life, Ji Xiaonian had spotted a hint of affection coming from Bai Yan’s eyes.
She was certain that it had belonged to her.
Bai Yan did not answer her question, and instead, he bent down and carried Ji Xiaonian like a princess in public, as Ji Xiaonian had yet to get down the car.
Surprised and afraid of falling, Ji Xiaonian subconsciously wrapped her arms around Bai Yan’s neck while staring at him in terror.
Despite that, Bai Yan was unfazed, and he had proceeded to carry her into the restaurant.
Bai Yan’s actions had earned him many envious gazes from the public along the way. Ji Xiaonian’s fear aside, she was rather fond of Bai Yan’s actions, especially since he had done it in public.
A sudden sense of warmth enveloped Ji Xiaonian’s heart. It was a sweet and blissful feeling.
While holding on to his neck, after she had snuck a kiss onto Bai Yan’s neck, Ji Xiaonian then muttered, “Aren’t you embarrassed?”
Bai Yan did not answer.
It was only after he had reached the designated table and gently placed Ji Xiaonian down that he answered, “As long as you remain obedient, I can do anything for you.”
After grabbing a seat on the opposite end of the table, he then asked in a serious expression, “Are you still mad at me?”
Ji Xiaonian had almost fainted from the bliss that had surged into her head when she heard those words. In response, she lowered her head shyly and shook it a moment later.
Soon after, the waiter had arrived with the food. Bai Yan gestured to Ji Xiaonian, and mentioned, “You don’t need to act polite, feel free to stuff yourself and eat your fill. We’re going to the cinema once you’re full.”
She raised her head, and with a reddened face, retorted, “Since when have I bothered to act polite before you?”
Ji Xiaonian then grabbed a pair of chopsticks and began to dine.
As she ate her meal, she thought back on how Bai Yan had carried her earlier and chuckled. Invigorated by the pleasant memory, she then bashfully fed Bai Yan a dish.
Seeing as Ji Xiaonian had returned to normal, Bai Yan’s erratic breathing soon returned to normal.
Although the two had barely spoken during their dinner, the atmosphere surrounding them was rather warm.
However, Ji Xiaonian felt that it would be a waste of time to spend their meal in silence. Halfway through the meal, she looked towards Bai Yan and asked, “Brother Yan, when will my brother return? I’m the only one at home, and it’s quite scary living alone like that.”
Although Yu Shengjie was still back at home, Ji Xiaonian had preferred living in the Bai Residence instead.
Familiarity breeds fondness, and the main reason behind Ji Xiaonian’s preference was because she feared that Bai Yan would develop feelings for Fang Miaoling over time.
“His trip will probably take a while. Are you that afraid of living alone? Do you want my mother to accompany you at home?”
“Huh?” Ji Xiaonian hurriedly waved her hands and explained herself, “No, what I mean is, I want to live at your place.”
‘I want to live with you and nurture our relationship even further.’
Ji Xiaonian’s huge round eyes fluttered as she enthusiastically waited for Bai Yan’s answer.
Bai Yan took a glance at her, and in a resolute tone, answered, “I have no plans to live together with you, yet.”
After giving his answer, Bai Yan carried on with his dinner as if nothing had happened.
On the other hand, Ji Xiaonian’s face had turned bright red as she narrowed her lips and stuttered, “I… What I mean is…”
“Ji Xiaonian, it’s better for a girl to be more reserved.”
Bai Yan interrupted her speech, and after wiping his mouth with a napkin, he mentioned to her with a straight face, “You don’t need to come over to my house. I’ll go to yours and stay there until Ji Chen returns.”
After putting down the napkin, Bai Yan casually asked, “Are you full now?”
Ji Xiaonian was stunned speechless. She was overwhelmed with excitement the moment Bai Yan mentioned that he would live together with her.
“I’m full. Let’s head to the movies, Brother Yan!”
She rose to her feet and dashed to his side. With a smile, she suggested, “How about we watch a romantic film?”
“Sure.”
“After we’re done, could we go shopping?”
“Sure.”
“Brother Yan, could you try not to act coldly without any reason in the future? After all, I want to have a loving relationship with you, one that lasts forever.”
“…”
Ji Xiaonian continued mumbling to herself, “I want to love you for all eternity, and I want us to be together forever.”
