Chapter 20：Come to My Office

Bai Yan's face was devoid of emotion as he stated, "This is not the time to joke around. Don't you think it's more important to find out where she is?"

'Indeed, he has become a sister-loving weirdo.'

'I guess it's fine though since I actually agree with Ji Chen's methods most of the time.'

"Worry not, she has her boyfriend by her side. I'm sure she's fine."

Ji Chen wore an easy-going expression as he lazily reclined on the sofa facing Bai Yan. He then crossed his legs and gave Lu Yifei a call.

Not just any call, however, as Ji Chen had turned on his speakers right in front of Bai Yan.

The moment the call connected, Ji Chen immediately asked, "Where's Xiaonian?"

At those words, the receiver hurriedly answered, "In a hotel. She told me to bring her to a bar last night, and she got p*ss-drunk. As a result, I brought her to a nearby hotel to rest."

Ji Chen was unfazed by Lu Yifei's words and asked another question. "What's this I hear about her hitting someone?"

"She hit someone?"

Lu Yifei was confused. "Did she hit someone? I had no idea about that."

"Could you return to school and offer them an explanation? If Xiaonian managed to severely injure the other person, make sure to pay their medical bills. The head counselor sounded pretty angry earlier, but I'll leave it to you to handle. Also, don't make Xiaonian sad again, understood?"

Lu Yifei hastily answered, "Noted. Xiaonian's awake. I'll send her to school soon."

"Alright."

After hanging up the phone, Ji Chen noticed that the man facing him was wearing an expression as dark as a frying pan. It was a hideous expression.

Ji Chen faked sympathy and asked, "Are you alright? You look pretty awful."

"Ji Chen, do you think Ji Xiaonian is annoying?" Bai Yan asked emotionlessly.

The question, however, confused Ji Chen quite a bit, as he had no idea where Bai Yan was going with it.

He chuckled and answered, "What makes you say that? Xiaonian is my one and only relative remaining in this world, and I adore her to no end. What makes you think I'd find her annoying?"

"Then how do you explain your desperate attempts in pushing her away? Aren't you trying to get rid of her?"

A chilling aura emanated from Bai Yan as he trained his cold gaze on Ji Chen.

A light bulb lit up above Ji Chen's head. As if he had finally understood Bai Yan's words, he hurriedly added with a smile, "Well, you can't put it like that! Lu Yifei is a pretty impressive candidate. Plus, not only is he handsome, but he has a kind and gentle personality as well. More importantly, Xiaonian reciprocates his love. It's what I call true love."

Ji Chen could smell the thick stench of vinegar emanating from Bai Yan and grinned in response. He elegantly took a sip of his tea and continued, "Plus, I've already told you, as long as Xiaonian likes it, I'll allow her to do as she pleases. She's my sister, so, is there any problem with spoiling her?"

"It appears that you're in a terrible mental state."

In a fit of inexplicable rage, Bai Yan pushed forward the folder on his table and barked, "This report is unacceptable. Take it back and redo it."

Ji Chen stood up and walked towards Bai Yan. While taking the folder, Ji Chen took a glance at him. Upon noticing the hideous expression on his face, Ji Chen's heart surged with joy.

"Alright, I'll inform the staff from the planning department to redo the report. It's not my role to write reports anyway," Ji Chen answered with a smile.

He grinned delightedly. After blowing Bai Yan a whistle goodbye, Ji Chen pushed open the doors and marched out of the office.

With that, Bai Yan was left alone in the office, and as he sat there, he felt a mysterious rage manifesting within his heart.

A moment later, Bai Yan held up his phone and gave Ning University's counseling unit a call.

Back at Ning University.

Ji Xiaonian was brought back to the institution by Lu Yifei, and at that point in time, she was heading towards the counseling unit.

"Say, do you think my misdemeanor will be recorded?" Frankly speaking, Ji Xiaonian was rather afraid.

After all, she was the one who attacked first, and if her misdemeanor were to be recorded, her reputation would take a large hit. It might even affect how the other students would look at her.

'How unfortunate. Why didn't I hold it in back then!'

Lu Yifei patted her shoulder, and with a light chuckle, he assured her, "It'll be fine. You have me, right? I'll plead a lighter sentence for you."

Despite this, Lu Yifei was actually clueless about the reason the little girl had hit someone. When he asked her, Ji Xiaonian had zipped her mouth shut, but according to Ji Chen's orders, he was not to let Ji Xiaonian feel wronged. As such, if the little girl was in the wrong, Lu Yifei would need to twist the truth to protect her dignity.

"Alright, it's time to face the music! If she wants to punish me, then so be it!"

Ji Xiaonian no longer cared, and she marched towards the head counselor's office with her chest held high.

The two stood before the counseling unit. After knocking the door and hearing a response from the counselor inside, Ji Xiaonian then pushed open the door.

Ji Xiaonian was certain that she would be reprimanded and her misdemeanor recorded. Moreover, she was also sure that the counselor would ask her to apologize to Fang Miaoling.

Contrary to her expectations, however, the moment she entered the office, the bald man before her had only stared at her silently.

The counselor's behavior had surprised Ji Xiaonian, and she carefully formed her words, "Umm… Head counselor? I'm Ji Xiaonian. Weren't you looking for me? Well, here I am."

The head counselor continued staring at her as he waved his hand and stated, "You can leave. You're off the hook."

He had just received a call from his superiors a while ago, and they had informed him that a lecturer had been specifically assigned to deal with Ji Xiaonian.

This was the first time the head counselor had had his job stolen from him. Although it was unsettling, as it was a direct command from the top, he had no other choice but to cooperate.

Ji Xiaonian stared at the head counselor in wide-eyed shock, as she could hardly believe what she had just heard. "Umm, C-Could you repeat what you just said? I'm off the hook? If I'm off the hook, then what was the call to my brother about? Aren't you just wasting my time?"

She spoke without restraint and immediately said anything that came to mind.

Upon hearing those words, the head counselor fumed. He glared at Ji Xiaonian and chided, "How can you be so ill-mannered, you darn brat?! Do you WANT to be in trouble? In that case, why don't I write up a big-fat-misdemeanor for you?"

Ji Xiaonian pouted, and she hurriedly shook her head. "N-No thanks! Since I'm off the hook, I'll take my leave then. Please calm down, head counselor. Goodbye."

On that note, she vanished out of the office along with Lu Yifei.

Never in her wildest dreams did she expect to be let off the hook over a serious misdemeanor like injuring someone else. She thought to herself, 'Why did the counselor suddenly let me off the hook?"

Ji Xiaonian tilted her head and asked Lu Yifei, "Don't tell me it was due to my brother's interference?"

Lu Yifei was equally clueless as he shook his head and answered, "Doesn't look like it."

Ji Chen was the one who had tasked him with handling the matter. As such, there was no way he would suddenly interfere.

"Meh, I don't care anymore. All's well that ends well."

With her mood greatly improved, Ji Xiaonian then pulled Lu Yifei's hand and swung it around. "I'm feeling really good today. How does seafood sound?"

"Sounds good to me."

The two joked around and they were even holding hands. Just as they were noisily making their way down the stairs, however, they had an unexpected encounter with Bai Yan.

The moment she saw Bai Yan, Ji Xiaonian subconsciously hurled Lu Yifei's hand away and meekly stood aside.

Even if she had flung Lu Yifei's hand at breakneck speeds, Bai Yan had still noticed their intimate actions earlier. With his heart aching in pain, he walked towards Ji Xiaonian and coldly stated, "Come to my office," without even looking at her.
