Chapter 27：Sorry Doesn't Mean Anything

Ji Xiaonian looked up from her food. Several grains of rice were stuck to the corners of her lips which made her such a hilarious sight to look at. "Really? But what if I miss him too much?"

Instead of her giving Bai Yan the cold shoulder, she would rather have it the other way round!

Anyway, she knew very well that she could not ignore the man because she only had eyes and heart for him!

"Ji Xiaonian, can you at least try?"

Ji Chen was speechless. He could not help but pull at Ji Xiaonian's ear and reprimanded, "I'm going to lose face if you continue like this."

He could not figure out why this little girl was so obsessed with Bai Yan!

Even if the guy said something horrible, she would forget about it and not take it personally. 

How could his sister be so simple-minded? If this went on any longer, she would get hurt and suffer sooner or later.

Ji Chen would not allow that to happen. He had to deal with Bai Yan in order to prevent her from getting hurt.

That man needed to know that Ji Xiaonian, the darling in their family, would not necessarily belong to him.

Ji Xiaonian stuck her tongue out and continued devouring the rice without saying a word.

Seeing as she was about to finish her meal, Ji Chen crossed his legs leisurely and patted her head. "Hey, listen to your brother this time and I promise you that he'll always be interested. Alright?"

Finally satisfied, Ji Xiaonian leaned back on the sofa comfortably while patting down on her filled stomach. She glanced at Ji Chen and chuckled. "Brother, I'll come clean with you. He has promised to be with me, hehe."

She really looked forward to it although it would only happen in two years' time.

"What did you say? He has promised to be with you?" Ji Chen was rather surprised.

Ji Xiaonian smiled sweetly at him and her eyes seemed to be overflowing with happiness. "Of course he has, who else would he be with if not me? No one else in this world can bear his temper."

Ji Chen looked at the smug little girl as if he was looking at a monster.

He was not sure how reliable her words were. 

Would Bai Yan's arrogant temperament allow him to promise this little girl right now?

He absolutely could not believe it.

"You can't fool me because your brother, I, am the master of emotional quotient. That tiny bit of effort he spent on you shows that he's not ready to confirm this relationship yet. Tell me the truth, what did he actually say to you?"

This little girl could not be as delighted if Bai Yan had not promised to be with her.

However, Ji Chen could not bring himself to believe that Bai Yan had actually agreed to be with her. He knew that it was not in this man's nature to settle so easily.

Knowing that she could not hide anything from her elder brother, Ji Xiaonian pouted and suddenly became frustrated. "Alright, I'll tell you the truth. He said that he'll be with me but only after he completes his teaching. He mentioned before that he has to teach at Ning University for three years and this is only his first year, which means that I have to wait for another two years. Sigh, who knows what will happen in two years."

Although she was rather disappointed, Ji Xiaonian who was very confident in herself gathered her courage and smiled at Ji Chen. "Brother, believe me, it doesn't matter if it's right now or in two years because Bai Yan belongs to me and no one else. I know that for sure."

As long as she did not give up and kept a close watch on the man every day, he would still be hers in two years' time.

By then, she would also reach the legal age for marriage, hehe…

An insidious smile appeared on Ji Xiaonian's face because she was extremely pleased with her perfect plan.

Ji Chen, on the other hand, sat there pondering in silence after listening to his sister.

Finally, he nodded while biting on his lips. "There's nothing much I can say if that's the case, but I still have to remind you that it's not okay to pester him all the time. After all, no man adores a pestering woman. It's up to you to decide how you're going to behave."

Ji Xiaonian pouted her lips and stared at Ji Chen with her rounded eyes. All of a sudden, someone pushed open the door to the villa just when she was about to say something.

She looked up and realized it was none other than Lu Yifei.

The man's expression revealed his surprise when he noticed Ji Xiaonian in the living room too. However, he quickly smiled and posed a question, "When did you come back? Why didn't you send for me?"

"What are you doing here?" Ji Xiaonian replied with another question as she looked at Lu Yifei.

Lu Yifei glanced uncomfortably at the man sitting next to her, who straightened his clothes, adjusted his posture, and immediately withdrew his gaze. He smiled at Ji Xiaonian before explaining, "I came back to retrieve the thesis I left in the room last night." 

Actually, it was Ji Chen who had called for him.

However, he did not expect Ji Xiaonian to be home as well.

"Xiaonian, you should go and rest now as you need to attend class tomorrow morning!" Ji Chen reminded.

Now that she was full, Ji Xiaonian rose to her feet without any complaint and retreated upstairs after waving goodbye to Lu Yifei.

Ji Chen and Lu Yifei had already left through the door as soon as she took the first step.

The next morning.

Ji Xiaonian needed to leave for the university as soon as the dawn broke.

Initially, she had wanted Bai Yan to drop her off but her elder brother told her not to disturb Bai Yan without a good reason. That was because things were getting a little tricky at the company lately.

Of course, she felt sorry for Bai Yan so she left for university together with Lu Yifei. 

When they arrived, Ji Xiaonian noticed that Lu Yifei walked awkwardly as soon as they got out of the car. She realized in the morning that Lu Yifei looked rather pale. "Yifei, are you alright?" she asked with concern.

Lu Yifei turned around and smiled bitterly at her before assuring her that he was fine.

"If so, why are you walking so awkwardly? Besides, you look really pale today and there are also dark circles under your eyes. Did you not sleep well last night?"

Lu Yifei smiled hypocritically and looked at Ji Xiaonian as if he wanted to reveal something. 

What could he have said? He could not tell her that he had been f*cked the whole night, could he?

He did not have the face to tell a third party about this matter.

"I'm really fine, just hurry to class and I'll return to my dorm!"

As if he was truly afraid that someone would discover his fragile side, Lu Yifei abandoned Ji Xiaonian and walked away immediately.

Ji Xiaonian noticed that he was still limping. It was rather odd but she decided to let it go since he did not seem to appreciate her concern.

She retreated her gaze and turned around.

Since Ji Xiaonian was already familiar with the path to the building, she tried to call Bai Yan and started walking with her face buried in the phone. 

Before she managed to make the call, she suddenly bumped her head into something. Shocked, she lifted her head and apologized once she realized that it was a person. "I'm so sorry to have walked into you."

As soon as she finished apologizing, Ji Xiaonian suddenly had a realization. 'Oh goodness, how could a man be… So handsome!'

She thought that Lu Yifei was the highest quality of all beauties, but this person before her… He was the best of the best!

Of course, perhaps these men were too young, hence their handsomeness was not of the same matured beauty such as Bai Yan and her elder brother.

However, she quite enjoyed this kind of handsomeness possessed by the young man standing in front of her. Lost in her own thoughts, she did not realize that she was just standing there motionlessly and staring at the young man.

"Little girl, sorry doesn't mean anything." The man curled his lips upward in a playful manner and revealed a charming smile.
