Chapter 37：You’re Mine

What would a little girl around the age of five or six know?

Ji Xiaonian distinctly remembered that she had pressed her palm down on a piece of paper.

Yu Shengjie had praised her back then, "Ay, Niannian's little handprint is so adorable."

The tiny figure looked at that handsome boy innocently and questioned while blinking her big rounded eyes, "Sister, can you play with Niannian now?"

Then, the two of them held their hands together and created some beautiful, innocent memories of their early childhood.

"My wife, do you remember now? You've belonged to me since then. It's just that things haven't been going great within my household for the past few years, hence I couldn't find time to visit you. Now that it's been handled, I sailed across the ocean in search of you so how could you be so merciless and insist that I'm a stranger!"

Yu Shengjie looked at the little girl in front of him cynically. A cunning expression flashed across his face as if he was confident that she would surrender. 

Ji Xiaonian finally recovered from her shock and stared at Yu Shengjie. "You're mental, I've told you that it's just a child's play and no one is going to take that seriously. Stop bothering me or you'll regret it."

Enraged, Ji Xiaonian shrugged off his arm and stomped away.

However, Yu Shengjie did not back down and trailed behind her even when warned not to.

"My wife, I'm starving. I've been waiting for you at the university's entrance the whole morning and I've not had breakfast. Why don't we go have some food?"

Ji Xiaonian ignored him and strode off.

Yu Shengjie followed after her. "My wife, a young lady should walk gently."

"My wife, isn't this the way to the canteen? Why're you heading towards the other way?"

"My wife…"

"Ahh…"

Ji Xiaonian could not take it anymore. Her hands flew to her ears and she screamed aloud.

She stopped walking and turned around to glare viciously at the man.

With her face flushed red with rage, she stared fixedly at him and yelled, "Yu Shengjie, what do you want? Do you have no sense of shame? We're not close at all and we can't take a child's play seriously!"

"I'm going to report to the teachers if you keep harassing me like this."

Ji Xiaonian had not the faintest idea of how to deal with him. How could a shameless man like him exist in the world!

Besides, he's not bad looking. He was even prettier than a woman and he surely was capable of going out with any other girl he fancied.

"But I take it seriously. I don't care, since you've already slept with me then you need to be responsible for your actions. Don't you know I believe in pure love?"

Looking at the little girl that was about to go hysterical in front of him, he went on with his nonsense talk while preserving a mask of solemnity.

Ji Xiaonian was so furious that she could spit blood.

However, she could not actually beat him up because violence could not solve problems.

Therefore, she remained standing there and took a deep breath, one after another.

She tried her best to regain her composure and then looked Yu Shengjie in the eyes before telling him off sternly. "I don't care if you take it seriously or not, but I'm telling you right now that I don't like you. I've pretty much forgotten about the things that happened during my childhood. I have a boyfriend now that I truly love and I just want to be with him in this life.

Therefore, can you please stay away from me?"

If possible, she wished to only maintain a pure friendship between them, or even a basic relationship no more than relatives. 

She could also step down and address him as "Elder Cousin."

The only thing she did not want was for him to call her his wife. This endearment was reserved for Bai Yan only and no one else should even think about addressing her that way.

"You cheated on me?"

A premonition sprung unbidden when Yu Shengjie noticed the solemn expression on the little girl's face.

"What do you mean that I've cheated on you? We're not even in a relationship, to begin with. Besides, both of us are in love, him and I."

Ji Xiaonian retrieved her cell phone and went through the photos. "Here, he's my future husband and I love him so, so much. Please stop calling me your wife because that term shouldn't be used simply."

"..."

Yu Shengjie was dumbfounded. 

The person she showed him had a great posture and appeared to be a man of numerous talents.

All the same, he replied calmly as if he was not bothered, "I don't care because you're mine no matter what. I don't care who you like to be with because I only want you."

"You… You, you, you…" Ji Xiaonian was about to lose her mind. 

She scratched her head frantically, screamed aloud, and ran away hurriedly.

'I don't believe you'll dare to follow me into the girls' dormitory.'

Ji Xiaonian bumped into Han Le on her way. The other person teased because the girl looked like she was fleeing into the wild. "Ji Xiaonian, have you been robbed?"

She hid behind Han Le and said in between breaths, "An unreasonable man is trailing after me."

Ji Xiaonian nudged Han Le hastily when she noticed Yu Shengjie had kept up with her. "There, that's him. Please help me to shake him off because he's mental. I'll see you later."

Then, she darted at full speed because she was terrified to be caught by Yu Shengjie. Her receding figure disappeared in the twinkling of an eye.

Yu Shengjie had lost track of the little girl. Instead, he was met by another girl who appeared to be awestruck by his beauty. 

A solemn expression washed over Yu Shengjie's face. "Do you know where Ji Xiaonian's dorm is?" he asked.

Han Le who was completely infatuated with the man nodded her head without hesitation. "Yes, yes, I do."

"Beautiful girl, do me the honor and lead the way!"

Han Le was overwhelmed with excitement and she almost leaped up and down with joy. "Yes, yes, okay, follow me!" the girl replied while nodding her head continuously.

Ji Xiaonian would jump off the building right away if she learned that her best friend had brought Yu Shengjie to the front door of her dorm room just seconds after she rushed back.

However, Yu Shengjie stood outside of the dorm room for a few seconds and walked away without even a gentle knock on the door. 

Afternoon.

Bai Yan's limited-edition sedan that was parked outside of Ning University's female dorm had caused a commotion.

Before Ji Xiaonian could leave her room, she already noticed a group of people swarming downstairs like a flight of bees.

She walked over to the porch and realized Bai Yan had come to pick up Fang Miaoling personally. A melancholic feeling suddenly filled the hole in her heart. 

Both of them had known each other for such a long time but he had never treated her this way. Did he really regard Fang Miaoling with such importance?

So important that he disregarded his own status?

"Ji Xiaonian, Big Brother Bai is here to pick me up. I'm going home now, see you on Monday."

Fang Miaoling dragged the suitcase behind her and reminded Ji Xiaonian sarcastically when she walked past the latter.

Ji Xiaonian recollected her thoughts and noticed Fang Miaoling smiling slyly. The latter waved her goodbyes and left without another word.

She had wanted to tag along Bai Yan's ride but the whole situation made her dismiss that idea.

Ji Xiaonian glanced downwards once again. Bai Yan assisted Fang Miaoling with her suitcase and waited until she got into the car before returning to the driver's seat. Then, the vehicle drove away slowly under public scrutiny. 

It was as if he had not noticed at all that Ji Xiaonian, who was in this building too, also needed a ride home.
