She was in a daze for a few seconds. Then she came back to herself abruptly. Standing in attention, she gave him a stout salute and greeted, "Good afternoon, sir."

"Good afternoon," Edgar said, with a tinge of surprise in his voice. "Maggie Du, what are you doing here?"

"Sir, I was waiting for you," she answered frankly. Maggie had become cheeky lately, at least in front of Gordon and the guards who stood on duty at Edgar's office. She didn't care about what they would think. After all, they knew it clearly that she was trying to pursue Edgar.

"Why were you waiting for me?" Edgar asked as he opened the door to his office. From the corner of his eye, he saw Gordon trying his best to refrain himself from bursting into laughter. He turned his head abruptly, startling Gordon. His refrained laughter turned into a violent cough.

Ignoring him, Edgar pushed the door wide open and walked in. Following him, Maggie went in after sticking her tongue out at Gordon. She was taking too much pleasure in his misfortune.

"Sir," Maggie said as she looked at Edgar with a jerky smile on her face. "We have nothing much to do this afternoon. I wanted to ask you if you are free during that time too." She hadn't intercepted Edgar successfully in the past few days. After she cleared the snow today, an idea had struck her and she wanted to come here to try her luck. To her surprise, she had made it into his office.

"Why?" Edgar asked, with a raised brow.

Curling her lips into a wide smile, Maggie said, "I was hoping we could take a walk in the training ground. Together."

Edgar sniffled his laugh. "Why the training grounds? Why can't we go for a walk outside the military camp?"

"Sir, because there are too many people outside, so I was afraid that you would decline if I proposed that," Maggie explained, her voice doubtful. She darted a look at him, her eyes filled with complicated emotions, like she was silently complaining to h

“Who does she think she is? I won’t marry her even if she is the last woman on earth,” said Hiram Rong.

“Marry into a family with tens of billions of assets? How lucky I am! I won’t be so foolish as to break off the engagement. At worst, I can receive money as part of the divorce settlement,” said Rachel Ruan.

Their great-grandfathers made a pact about their engagement a hundred years ago...

mbling, he opened the door and fled.

Inside the office, Edgar shook his head and stood up from his chair. He walked to the window and looked out. Maggie was hopping along the road with a big smile on her face. She had completely forgotten about her rank as a military officer.

When he saw her carefree attitude, a smile gradually appeared at the corners of Edgar's lips. His sight on Maggie deepened. He figured it was time for him to say goodbye to his past. He should fall in love again, to enjoy the amazing feeling of loving someone and being loved in return.

Edgar was about to withdraw his sight from her. At that moment, he saw a squad of soldiers walking towards the building with their cleaning tools. In order to keep her image, Maggie tried to look steady. However, she lost her balance because of the snowy ground. She staggered several steps and nearly fell to the ground. Fortunately, the squad leader had sharp eyes and agile hands. He supported her, preventing her from falling face down on the snow.

Edgar's heart rose to his throat when she tripped. He could not help but shake his head when she was failing to keep steady on her feet. He began to wonder if it was really right of him to start a serious relationship with a girl who was twelve years younger than him.
