"You weren't actually gonna run, were you?" A familiar voice asked.
Eun Young looked up to see a pair of black eyes staring back at her. She was surprised with the sudden eye contact. But after seeing the familiar man before her, Eun Young slowly relaxed.
The man warmly smiled at her reaction. Seeing that a part her shoulder was still being dampened by the water, he stepped closer towards her, tipping his umbrella towards her direction so she doesen't get wet from the rain.
"Kang Suk Ju!" Eun Young grinned as she greeted her old acquaintance. He was quite tall like Min Jae. His navy blue suit elegantly adorned his slim figure but because he was sharing an umbrella with her, his posture was slightly leaning.
"What brings you here at this hour?" Eun Young asked, instantly reminded of Suk Ju's sudden appearance. "It's already--" Before Eun Young could finish her sentence, she immediately realized something.
"Oh my! Are you with an emergency patient? I'll come with you to the ER! Hold on, I'll call for the paramedics!" Panic-stricken Eun Young quickly rummaged her bag for her phone.
"No, Eun Young!" Suk Ju exclaimed but Eun Young no longer heard him. He scratched his head out of embarrassment. "I... actually came alone." He confessed.
Eun Young stopped abruptly. She blinked at him as she processed his words. He came alone? Then, does that mean...
"Oh! Are you the emergency patient? How come you didn't proceed to the ER right away?" Eun Young asked, her face was filled with worry and concern as she assessed him herself. However, seeing that there was nothing unusual or anything that screams life-threatening on Suk Ju, she frowned.
Suk Ju couldn't help but stifle a laugh. Silly girl! How could she have thought that I was in a dying condition in this state? Clearly I am still standing on my two legs. Is she really a licenced doctor?
Suk Ju shook his head, completely dismissing the thoughts. "Eun Young, I'm perfectly fine! Calm down, my arms are still my arms and my perfectly handsome face is still my face." Suk Ju winked.
Eun Young bursted out laughing at Suk Ju's retort. Honestly, she didn't know he was this confident about himself. He always looked timid and quiet to her but who knew he was actually quite a charmer? He was fine alright. Fine enough to boast and praise himself that is!
Eun Young beamed. "Okay! I perfectly got your message!" She shouted as the rain became louder and heavier.
However, she was still curious as to why he was around the area at such a time like this. Eun Young couldn't help but ask. "But then... it's late already and the weather's really bad, are you here for something?"
Suk Ju then remembered the purpose of his presence. "Oh, right! I was just on my way home from work and I happen to saw you as I was in the area. The cabs were already stranded on the other side so I figured I could offer you a ride home." He explained.
Lighting suddenly striked across the dark sky and afterwards, a loud thunder erupted. Eun Young was startled. The winds became stronger and so before they can further be drenched in the rain, Suk Ju quickly guided Eun Young towards his car.
"Let's go! Before the road ahead get's blocked too!" Suk Ju announced through the roaring wind. Eun Young hastily nodded in agreement.
Suk Ju helped Eun Young get across the merciless rain. Upon reaching the car, Suk Ju opened the door for her and allowed her to settle inside first before closing the door. He then proceeded to the driver's seat after.
Eun Young's place wasn't really far from the hospital. However, because the roads can be quite slippery, Suk Ju didn't rush with a crazed-man speed but instead, he paced adequately.
They were both quiet during the first few minutes of the ride. Not wanting the atmosphere to become awkward, Eun Young was the first to ignite the conversation. "I haven't seen you in a while, Suk Ju. How have you been?" She casually asked.
As from what she can remember, Suk Ju had always been Min Jae's bestest friend. She first met him in college, where she also first met Min Jae. She and Suk Ju weren't exactly close, but they shared a good relationship after seeing each other once in a while because of some common friends.
Kang Suk Ju shrugged. "I'm okay. I've been busy but... not too busy to attend some parties and gatherings here and there."
Eun Young gasped. "Are you finally seeing someone?" She pried.
Suk Ju scoffed. "I'm not that desperate to get married! Why does everyone keep asking me that?"
"Uhm... because you're young and successful? If I didn't know you personally, I would've assumed you were into men." Eun Young jokingly remarked.
Suk Ju pretended to be offended. "Now that's just the meanest thing someone ever said to me in my entire lifetime. I shall bring that to my deathbed."
The two continued to chat casually like old friends. They took the opportunity to catch up with one another as they talked about business and some memories from the past. All was going well until they saw a detour sign blocking the road that lead to Eun Young's place. There were officers guarding the way too.
"I'm sorry, sir! The road ahead is currently unsafe so the management decided to temporarily close it." The officer reported. "The road will be cleared by tomorrow morning. We're terribly sorry for the inconvenience." He apologized before gesturing towards the other direction.
Suk Ju quickly glanced at Eun Young. He guessed that she was beginning to worry so he immediately assured her.
"It's okay, I know another way we could pass through." Suk Ju gently said as he prepared to take on the other route.
