"Eun Young! Come quick!" Dal Rae was breathless as soon as she arrived at Eun Young's office. She ran through the hallways as fast as she could just so that she could reach Eun Young in time. Fortunately, she was just in her office.
"What happened?" Eun Young automatically stood up. "What's the matter? Is it an emergency? Fill me in with the details quick!" She instructed.
Pulling her drawer, Eun Young hastily grabbed her stethoscope. She also reached for the clipboard on the other side of the desk to search for the patient's information. "Is it the patient on room 603 or the one on room 609? Crap! I thought Dr. Nam already got them covered. What happened?" Eun Young demanded as the tension in her chest continued to grow.
"It's nothing like that Eun Young." Dal Rae breathed, still gasping for air. "Dr. Nam treated those patients already. Don't worry about that! It's... They..." She trailed off.
Eun Young sighed in relief upon knowing that Dal Rae's news didn't have anything to do with the patients. She reminded Dr. Nam so many times that he'd be the one taking over the others and if he forgot, Eun Young would've definitely given him a piece of her mind. However, she was a bit irked that she worried over nothing. What could be so important that she had to sprint here only to tell her personally?
"Alright, alright. If it isn't an emergency, just calm down and get some oxygen first. I can wait." Eun Young said. She placed her stethoscope back in the drawer. She was just about to sit back down when suddenly, Dal Rae closed the door shut. She then blurted out something that certainly captured Eun Young's attention.
"They... You're husband's here! He's with a woman right now in east wing and boy does that woman look familiar!" She reported. "I feel like I've seen her somewhere..." Dal Rae murmured, thinking carefully about the woman's face.
Meanwhile, this news hit Eun Young like ice cold water. Min Jae's here... and he's with a woman for crying out loud! Eun Young scoffed. Of all the hospitals out there, why did he have to choose this? Why did he have to choose her workplace?!
The east wing is particularly where most laboratories are. Other than that, a notable department in that area is the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. If her assumptions are correct, Min Jae must be with Na Rae at the moment. Eun Young couldn't help but roll her eyes. Are they happy now? Did they come to have their precious child checked up on? Is that why they chose this place... to brag their happiness in front of her?!
Dal Rae noticed the sarcasm on Eun Young's face. She instantly felt guilty for not thinking about what Eun Young would feel. What was she thinking! Of course Eun Young would be hurt! "I'm... I'm sorry, Eun Young. It wasn't my intention to--"
"I'm okay." Eun Young said, cutting her off in mid sentence. "Don't worry about me. I'm... perfectly fine."
With her response, Dal Rae strongly sensed something fishy. Eun Young disappeared for almost a week and when she got back, she refused to tell her anything. And even now that she saw her husband with a woman, Eun Young still kept pretending as if everything was okay. Just what the hell is she not telling her?!
"Okay, Eun Young just stop... stop lying to me already. Look, I know that you're not okay. I'm getting the feeling that it has something to do with your a****** of a husband but please don't shut me out." Dal Rae pleaded. "I'm not forcing you to spill all the drama to me right now just... please don't treat me like I'm a stranger. I'm your friend and if there's anything, I'm always gonna be on your side."
Eun Young swallowed. She didn't know Dal Rae felt that way. Honestly, she just didn't want to tell anybody because the moment she begins to even think about it, the painful memories resurface. She worked hard not to return to that state again. It was indeed one of the most darkest and the most terrible moments in her life and for her to talk about it was just like opening a wound that only recently dried up.
"Thanks." Eun Young sincerely said with a small smile. She realized that she hadn't properly thanked Dal Rae for always being there for her. Perhaps she could treat her out or... maybe prepare something special for her someday.
"Okay! Forget I even said anything 'cause I think I might've just mistaken him for someone else. Come to think about it, why would he even be here?" Dal Rae slightly opened the door before turning to look at Eun Young again. "I'm going back to work. Feel free to disrupt me anytime sweetheart. Ciao!" She bid before swiftly exiting the room.
Eun Young slumped down her chair as soon as Dal Rae left. For some reason, she wanted to go check. She shouldn't care anymore about them anymore but at the back of her mind, she was still curious! Eun Young forcefully tried to dismiss the thoughts as she returned to what she was doing earlier. However, after a few attempts, she made no progress. She kept remembering that her husband was with another woman... in the same area where she was!
Eun Young's phone unexpectedly buzzed, snapping her back to reality. It was a message from Dr. Nam telling her to drop by the intensive care unit. Apparently, it slipped her mind that she volunteered to observe one of the patients there for further diagnosis. Letting out a sigh, Eun Young shortly made her way there. It was better than staying in her office anyway. She figured that she wouldn't be productive like that so she decided to go visit other patients after dropping by the ICU.
She was just simply walking down the hallway. They weren't that far from her when her eyes all of a sudden caught a glimpse of someone very familiar. From the other side, Min Jae and Na Rae were headed towards her direction. They didn't see her yet. They were just walking down the hall, neither looking at nor even speaking to each other.
Could it be a coincidence that they were the only people around? There were no other doctors, no patients... even the nurses weren't around. Eun Young maintained a calm and professional demeanor. She was just planning to casually walk past them. However, when the distance between them began to close in, Min Jae tilted his head upward. In that moment, his eyes met hers.
