414 Chapter 414: His Mom’s Strange Reaction

Old Mr. Parker loved playing chess, and old Mrs. Parker took out the checkerboard and pieces at once.

"After you, father." Ethan sat upright.

"Great!" Old Mr. Parker moved a piece ahead.

Old Mrs. Parker, instead, set aside, chatting with her son. "When you're not home, your father often plays chess alone. I don't understand why it's so fun for him."

"My old brother has never come back home?" Ethan asked.

"Don't mention that, jerk!" Old Mr. Parker seemed displeased.

Old Mrs. Parker sighed and said in a low voice, "Ever since Aiden was put in jail, he has never contacted us. Probably he hates us."

"He deserves it!" old Mr. Parker snorted. "He made his own son a scapegoat for what he has done. I already turned a blind eye on her inappropriate behaviors in the company, but I couldn't tolerate that he's illegally transferred the assets of the company!"

Ethan remained calm. "Where is Nicole? I think it isn't easy for her to accept so many shocking things which have happened to our family."

Old Mrs. Parker replied in a hurry, "She was annoyed that you married Kylie and has transferred to a school abroad. It's not a bad thing, because she hasn't heard of the shocking news yet."

"Nobody can change the fact that Kylie is my daughter-in-law now!" old Mr. Parker said.

"Ha-ha, I think you just want to be a grandfather." Old Mrs. Parker smiled.

"Don't you want to be a grandmother?" Old Mr. Parker held Mrs. Parker's hand and said with a smile, "Don't compete against me to hug the baby!"

There was a faint smile on Ethan's lips. "You don't need to compete. Kylie is carrying twins, and each of you can hug a baby then."

Knowing that old Mrs. Parker's face changed, she gripped her sleeves.

Ethan noticed his mother's unusual reaction but didn't say a word.

It's good news, but why does mother look so in pain?

Before long, old Mr. Parker also noticed the absent look on old Mrs. Parker's face. He stood up and said, "Alright, I think it's enough for today, and your mother needs a rest now."

Ethan stood up as well. "Sure, have a good rest, mother." He turned around, walking away. When he closed the door, he saw old Mrs. Parker looking at him by accident. It seemed she had something to tell him.

However, probably because of old Mr. Parker's presence, she just moved her lips, then soon turned to look in another direction.

The moment Ethan was back, Kylie asked him, "What did mother say?"

"Nothing." Ethan hugged her, sitting by the bedside. "I think the mother has something that she doesn't want my father to know. I'm sure my mother knows your mother, given her unusual behaviors and reactions."

Old Mr. Parker knew Ethan wasn't his biological son, but he didn't know who Ethan's biological father was either.

Old Mrs. Parker had kept it a secret for so many years. She must be unwilling to let Ethan find out the truth.

What was Emily's effect on this event?

Ethan said a lot to Kylie, but Kylie remained silent. He pinched her jaw. "What are you thinking?"

Kylie smiled. "I'm not in a hurry to know the answer. You don't need to bother your mother too often."

"I know," Ethan said, then lay down on the bed with Kylie in his arms.

Kylie, however, had her own plan, because she had something that she didn't want Ethan to know either.

The next day, she used an excuse to have a walk outside and took old Mrs. Parker out of the spacious house.

"I know you won't give it up," old Mrs. Parker said to Kylie when they walked into a nearby park.

Kylie held Mrs. Parker's arm and smiled. "I understand you want to protect Ethan, so am I, which is the reason why I hope we can talk outside."

Old Mrs. Parker frowned. "What do you mean?"

"I also want to keep it what you've been keeping a secret from Ethan," Kylie said. "Ethan has an unhappy childhood, so I want him to live his rest life in happiness, and forget those unpleasant memories."

Old Mrs. Parker seemed slightly touched but still insisted. "I don't understand what you're talking about."

Kylie stopped and stared at the old Mrs. Parker. "Ethan is Adolph's son," she said word by word.

Hearing this, old Mrs. Parker's body stiffened, and her face turned pale in a second. She got rid of Kylie's hand and stepped backward. "Nonsense!"

"You were trapped by Agnes, then got pregnant. After that, you seized a chance and escaped away from the Cecil family's house," Kylie added. "However, you don't know Ethan's close brother, Stephen, is exactly Adolph's son. As long as they meet each other, the truth will come to light."

"Who? Stephen? Stephen is Adolph's son?" Old Mrs. Parker couldn't believe her ears.

"It's impossible. Impossible..." Kylie walked near old Mrs. Parker and held her cold hands in her palms, trying to warm them up. "I hope you can tell me everything about it, so I can help you keep it a secret from Ethan."

Old Mrs. Parker looked at Kylie with a sarcastic smile. "You're lying. You just want to know the cause of your mother's death!"

"Of course, I want to know it. I want to know who caused my mother's death just because she helped you keep a secret!" Kylie said.

Old Mrs. Parker's lips trembled, and she turned her hands to catch Kylie's. "I don't know how your mother died. I also have no idea that it would kill your mother..."

"Did Adolph kill my mother? Did he force my mother to tell him where you were?" Kylie asked.

Old Mrs. Parker shook her head. "I don't know..."

"Please, tell me what had happened during that year?" Kylie begged her. Probably old Mrs. Parker was touched by her sincerity, or old Mrs. Parker herself felt tired now after keeping the secret for so many years.

Old Mrs. Parker, whose name was Barbara Morgan, looked up at the sky and started to tell Kylie the story.

In fact, Barbara was the girl who was in love with Adolph that year. When the Cecil family and the Morgan family announced their alliance, the whole Seattle got excited because they were going to build a brand new business empire.

However, Barbara was abducted on the wedding day.

To finish the ceremony, their parents decided to replace Barbara with Agnes.

The marriage alliance between two super-rich families attracted their enemies' attention too, and someone attacked Adolph that night. Agnes protected Adolph with her body and was shot by a bullet. She almost died because of that.

Once she woke up, the first thing she told Adolph was that Barbara had run away from the wedding, and the abduction was not true!

Adolph, who was in deep love with Barbara, felt utterly humiliated and made up his mind to catch her back!
