Chapter 254 - Welcome to The Family

Liu Hui Lan rolled her eyes at her son. She had already known what she can and cannot say, but his son would still insist on giving her a warning.

Her son was so adorable for the first few years after he came out of her wȯmb, how did he become this fierce when he grew up?

Zhang Jing, who had been silent for a while to observe the situation suddenly coughed dryly. When everyone turned their head on him, Zhang Jing then spoke, "Let's not start bickering. Zhang Xi, Hui Lan, both of you had just returned. It's a happy occasion." 

Since her father-in-law has spoken, Liu Hui Lan knew that she shouldn't try arguing with her son anymore. It would be bad if their daughter-in-law start had a bad impression on them. 

Knowing that it was the first meeting for them, Zhang Jing could understand their excitement. He let out a sigh and stood up from his seat. "Alright, the four of you should stay and talk. I'm going to check on Auntie Wu and see if we will be having our dinner soon. Yu Ying, you come with me."

Zhang Yu Ying, who had just come out from the kitchen was surprised when her grandfather suddenly mentioned her name. She pointed her forefinger to her nose. "Me? Why me?"

Before the girl could utter another word, her grandfather had already shot her a look and she had no other choice but to follow her grandfather back into the kitchen with a slight pout on her face. 

Seeing that her father-in-law had left, Liu Hui Lan and her husband were a bit more at ease. The two of them then turned their attention back at Li Qin Yao.

Anyway, at this time, both of them were more interested in the girl that her son had brought back home. 

Through their previous conversation with their daughter, Yu Ying had once mentioned that Li Qin Yao was the same girl that her son has been looking for a long time ever since he had seen her at a basketball tournament. 

Everyone was skeptical that Zhang Yu Han would ever found the girl he had a crush on for so long. So it was a surprise to hear that not only did their son managed to find her again but had also registered their marriage with the said girl!

Of course, when Liu Hui Lan heard about how the girl that his son had a crush on was a real person and not a fantasy, she was curious and has been looking forward to meeting her daughter-in-law.

Liu Hui Lan's first impression of the Li Qin Yao was that she was so small and adorable. The first time she laid her eyes on the girl, Liu Hui Lan wondered if it would be easy to kidnap her daughter-in-law away because of her petite figure.

"Sorry," Liu Hui Lan turned to her son and smiled. "You know very well that we have all been waiting for you to bring a girl back home." She turned to her daughter-in-law again and patted her hand with amiably. Then, she began to shoot a few questions to get to know her daughter-in-law well.

During this time, Liu Hui Lan could not help but notice the warning glance that her son constantly shot at her. 

"Mom, stop interrogating my wife too much," Zhang Yu Han said after his mother's tenth continuous questions. "You're going to stress her out."

"Nonsense," Liu Hui Lan waved her hand as she shot a displeased look at her son. "I haven't started any interrogation yet."

Li Qin Yao could feel her sweat trickling on her back as she heard her mother-in-law's words. The thought that she will be interrogate made her anxious. Subconsciously, Li Qin Yao glanced at her husband to ask for his help. 

Seeing her distress signal, Zhang Yu Han immediately shot a look at his father as if to remind him to look after his wife. Zhang Xi then nudged at his wife to stop her from going overboard with her questions.

With the way his son was protective towards his wife, Liu Hui Lan heaved a long sigh. Looking at the way they interacted, she was relieved to see that the two had feelings for each other. 

Although Liu Hui Lan had heard on how her son doted on his wife, she was still concerned that the daughter-in-law might not feel the same way to her son. As his mother, of course, she was worried! But now that she had seen for herself at how the two interacted, Liu Hui Lan was pleased.

She then reached out her hand in her pocket and pulled out a red velvety pouch. Before anyone could react, Liu Hui Lan had already put the pouch in Li Qin Yao's hand. "Since this is our first meeting, I hope you won't reject my gift. It isn't anything much, but this is something that Zhang Yu Han's grandmother had given me when I first married his father."

Li Qn Yao looked at the pouch with her eyes wide. Suddenly, she was found that her words were stuck in her throat. 

"Since you are now Zhang's daughter-in-law, then I will pass this to you."

Li Qin Yao peeked into the pouch and felt her breath hitched when she saw a jade bracelet inside. At first glance, she could tell that the bracelet was a valuable treasure.

"Mom gives it to you. Just take it," Zhang Yu Han said as he placed a hand to cover his wife's.

Zhang Xi, who has been sitting at the side for a long time as his wife continued to chat with their daughter-in-law, cleared his throat. "Qin Yao, you don't have to be too wary of us. Your mom and dad don't have many requirements for our daughter-in-law. Just that... as long as you and Yu Han could live happily together, then, we'll be at ease."

Hearing her father-in-law's words and feeling how the two of them have been very welcoming to her from the very beginning, Li Qin Yao felt her eyes and nose started to go sour.

Zhang's family reception towards her was different than Chen's. 

She has been worried about their thought of her ever since she was married to Zhang Yu Han. Knowing that his parents were in C Country, Li Qin Yao had let her guard momentarily but it was unexpected that they would return earlier.

She did not think that the couple would be very welcoming to her.

Suddenly, Li Qin Yao thought of how she had gained a big family that doted on her after she married to Zhang Yu Han. It was an indescribable good feeling.

"En. En. Your dad is right," Liu Hui Lan quickly agreed.

Li Qin Yao lowered her head when she felt Zhang Yu Han squeezed at her hand and stared at her husband's large hand against hers. She did not know when does it begin but she recently noticed how her husband was able to perceive her moods.

"Qin Yao," Liu Hui Lan held on her other hands. "Welcome to the family."
