Chapter 277 - A Habit of Eavesdropping

After sending her mother back to B City, both Li Qin Yao and Zhang Yu Han went out to the mall to get a few things for their house.

Zhang Yu Han was aware that currently, their apartment was filled with furniture of his liking. Most of the furniture he had chosen was in monotone. In the past, the apartment was a place where he would crash to sleep.

Since he was now married, Zhang Yu Han would like to redecorate their house, and especially the bedroom where he can see traces of his wife in the apartment as well. 

When they were done picking up some stuff, it was around lunchtime. The couple decided to stop by a restaurant and have their lunch before returning home. 

The cafe they picked up this time had a nice ambiance. There was a decorative fake bamboo partition that would give them privacy. A waiter came to their table and walked away once the two of them had placed their order.

Li Qin Yao took a few sips at the water and suddenly paused when she heard a familiar voice coming from the bamboo partition on their left. She peeked behind the leaves and saw that it was no other than Zhang Yu Ying. Sitting at the opposite of Zhang Yu Ying was no other than the short-haired girl that she had previously seen at the car dealer.

Of course, Li Qin Yao had only remembered this girl because she had intimately called her husband, 'Brother Yu Han'. 

"Isn't that, Yu Ying?" Li Qin Yao turned to her husband and whispered.

"I know," Zhang Yu Han nodded without looking at the direction where his wife was pointing. "Let's not mind her."

"Aren't you tired after walking around?" Zhang Yu Han squeezed at her hand lightly.

The couple was sitting side by side instead of across each other. When they have started to date, Li Qin Yao had once said that she would prefer to sit side by side just because his voice would sound deeper whenever she stay close to him. Of course, back then, Zhang Yu Han did not know that his wife liked hearing his voice so much.

"Xiao Ran, if you're going to ask me about my brother whenever you ask me out, I swear to god that I will never go out with you again," Zhang Yu Ying said. 

Li Qin Yao glanced at the table next to her. As someone who had a habit of eavesdropping to others' conversation, it was not hard to hear Zhang Yu Ying and her friend's conversation. 

Noticing the exasperation in Zhang Yu Ying's voice, Li Qin Yao began to worry.

"My brother is already a married man, alright?" Zhang Yu Ying continued. "So what if you have liked him for years? Have you ever told him that you like him in the past? No, right? Don't blame others when you haven't even tried to tell him you liked him. Not everyone is a mind reader."

"But Yu Ying, you know that I like him," Xiao Ran spoke. 

Hearing these words, Zhang Yu Ying began to put down the cutlery. Her appetite had long gone. "Then what? You expect me to tattle to my brother? Xiao Ran, we've known each other for years. I am not someone who would intervene in other relationships."

Li Qin Yao was about to concentrate on the drama going on at the table when she felt her husband placed his arms around her shoulder and pulled her closer to him.

"Why do you want to listen to others' conversation?" Zhang Yu Han had a displeased look on his face. "Don't you like to listen to my voice?" Seeing the way his wife was looking back at him, Zhang Yu Han moved closer to her ear and spoke, "Qin Yao, I love you."

Li Qin Yao felt her heart skipped a beat and her body turned mushy. Hearing his voice would always have this effect on her. Now that he knew that she liked hearing his voice, Zhang Yu Han would often tease her this way.

When she lifted her head with fake anger on her face, Li Qin Yao saw the smug look on his expression. Li Qin Yao had the urge to bite her husband right now. "Zhang Yu Han, that's not fair."

"What's not fair?" He gave her a lopsided smile.

Suddenly, there was a movement from the next table, and before they know it, Xiao Ran had stopped to stare at the couple with a surprised look on her face.

"Brother Yu Han."

Li Qin Yao felt the corner of her mouth started to twitch as she heard those words again. She then turned to her husband and narrowed her eyes. If he did not handle this situation right, today might be the night that he will experience sleeping alone for the first time in months.

Seeing the look on his wife's face, Zhang Yu Han was worried. He then shot an annoyed look at Xiao Ran.

Xiao Ran flinched for a while and recovered herself when Zhang Yu Ying appeared behind her. 

"Eh, you guys are here as well?" Zhang Yu Ying said.

Xiao Ran glanced at her friend and looked back at the couple. The conversation with Zhang Yu Ying earlier resurfaced and Xiao Ran took a step forward. "Brother Yu Han, I like you. I have liked you for years."

Zhang Yu Ying turned to her friend with a horror look on her face. After everything that she had said, what the hell was this girl trying to pull? 

"I'm sorry, I'm already a married man."

Xiao Ran turned to Li Qin Yao and said, "But she is not the type of girl that you like! Brother Yu Han, didn't they say that you like a girl who plays basketball? But look at this girl, she doesn't look like someone who plays basketball at all."

"What the hell are you doing?" Zhang Yu Ying pulled at her friend's arms.

"I learned how to play basketball for you. I tried to change for you," Xiao Ran prattled. Years ago, when she had heard that Zhang Yu Han was searching for a girl he saw at a basketball court, Xiao Ran had thought that he liked someone who played the sport. It was since then that she decided to learn to play basketball.

"So what if my wife is not someone who is into basketball? What if you did those things for me?" Zhang Yu Han said. "The person who I like ten years ago is her and will continue to be this girl until the end of time. Yu Ying's friend, I am very much in love with my wife. I hope that you will not try to create a misunderstanding and cause trouble for me."

Xiao Ran's eyes turned wide when she saw the threatening look in his eyes. She was surprised at his sudden confession and saddened to know that he was not bothered to call her name. Every time she had met, Zhang Yu Han would always call her 'Yu Ying's friend'. It was as if he had not even remembered her name even though she had told him every time they met.

Suddenly, Xiao Ran began to notice that a few people had started to gather around them and pointed their fingers at her. Unable to deal with the embarrassment, Xiao Ran flee with an embarrassed look on her face.

A waiter quickly saw this situation and dispersed others from disturbing the couple. 

Zhang Yu Ying pulled a chair and sat down in front of the couple. "Brother, I'm so sorry. I did not know that she would do something like that. I swear, I will never contact her ever again."

Zhang Yu Han merely glanced at his sister before he spoke. "You will be paying for our lunch."

Hearing that his brother was not planning to send her to deal with the company's project in other cities, Zhang Yu Ying was happy. "Alright! It'll be my treat."
