The atmosphere in the banquet hall was lively. The guests were wearing clothes in bright, cheer color as they entered the hall.
At a corner of the hall, Zhang Li Xue was staring at the baby in Mother Mu's arms. At her side, Mu Zhen Yu stood at the little girl's side as he accompanied her to play with his baby brother.
Because they were celebrating Zhang Jing's birthday, the little princess was dressed prettily in a baby pink gown with a large flower at her waist. Her hair was tied up in a neat ponytail and there was a pink headband with a golden rose.
Looking at the little princess look, Mu Zhen Yu was unable to take his eyes of that girl. It seemed that Zhang Li XUe had grew prettier than the last time he saw her.
Of course, after playing around with Mu Zhen Yu and his baby brother, the little princess seemed to forget that her parents were absent.
At this time, her grandmother, Liu Hui Lan was looking after her as she continued to chat with her friends.
"Mom, have you seen big brother?"
Liu Hui Lan paused when she heard her daughter whispered to her. "No. Your brother and Qin Yao have not arrived yet?" She glanced at her wristwatch and frowned.
The birthday banquet was going to start soon, but both of them were not around.
"Give them a call," Liu Hui Lan said. "They are probably on their way."
Zhang Yu Ying tightened her grip on her phone. "I tried. But, big brother's phone was engaged and sister-in-law did not pick up her phone. Mom, I've been trying to call them for the last twenty minutes."
Liu Hui Lan's expression changed as a thought crossed her mind. She excused herself from the rest of her friends and pulled her daughter to a corner. "Could it be that they are in an accident. I heard Mister Yang mentioned an accident on the bridge while he was on their way here."
"Mom, relax. They did not pass that bridge from their home to this hotel," Zhang Yu Ying spoke as she understood her mother's worry. "But I heard that the traffic was bad. It could be that they were affected by the traffic."
"Could be." Liu Hui Lan nodded. A second later, another thought came to her mind, and Liu Hui Lan pulled at her daughter's arm. "What if something happens to Qin Yao. She's pregnant. When is her due date again?"
"Mom, there are still two weeks before sister-in-law give birth," Zhang Yu Ying reminded. "Besides, Brother would give us a call if sister-in-law is in labor."
"You continue and give them a call."
Zhang Yu Ying nodded. She dialed her brother's number again and waited. A sigh of relief escaped her upon hearing the dial tone. Zhang Yu Ying turned to her mother and smiled.
A few seconds later, someone picked up the phone.
"Brother. Where are you?" Zhang Yu Ying spoke as soon as the phone was connected. "Grandfather's birthday banquet is going to start soon."
"Sorry. I don't think I will be able to make it to grandfather's birthday banquet."
Zhang Yu Ying went to a corner and whispered. "Ah? What's wrong?"
"Your sister-in-law gave birth to a baby boy just now."
Zhang Yu Ying froze for a few seconds before she was able to respond. "Brother, sister-in-law gave birth and you did not tell us?"
"It's not that I did not want to tell you. I couldn't." Zhang Yu Han took a deep breath and continued. "My hands were full. Everything happened too fast and Qin Yao delivered the baby at home."
There was another long pause in Zhang Yu Ying's part.
"We couldn't wait for the paramedics to come. I was on the phone for a long time with Doctor Qiao as she ȧssists me to help Qin Yao deliver the baby."
"Hold on. Brother, you tell me what's going on again." Zhang Yu Ying took a few deep breaths and her action caught her mother's attention and she too started to worry.
…
Once the call ended, Zhang Yu Ying quickly gathered her family member in another room.
The guests looked at each other as they wondered what was going on. However, no one knew what happened for the Zhang family to leave the room so sudden. The manager walked in and ȧssured that everything was alright, but they could not stop worrying.
Inside the smaller room, everyone was looking at Zhang Yu Ying anxiously.
"Yu Ying, why did you suddenly gather us into this room?" Zhang Xi asked. "The guests are still waiting for us in the hall. You know that it is rude for us to suddenly leave without giving them an explanation."
"Dad! This is an emergency!" Zhang Yu Ying spoke exasperatedly. "Don't you notice that your son and daughter-in-law are missing?"
Everyone inside the room started to look around and noticed that both Zhang Yu Han and Li Qin Yao was indeed not in the room.
"What happened?" Zhang Jing asked.
Zhang Yu Ying looked at her grandfather with a mixed expression. It looked as if she was trying to keep the serious look on her face, but her lips could not stop smiling. "I called brother just now and he told me that he could not attend your birthday banquet."
At the side, the little princess looked at her auntie with a frown. "Mommy and daddy aren't coming?"
"Why not?" Zhang Xi frowned. "Zhang Yu Ying, you better explain things clearly. Stop pausing in the middle of your sentences!"
Zhang Yu Ying sighed at her father's impatience. "Your daughter-in-law gave birth to a baby boy just now."
Suddenly, there was a long silence in the room.
"Qin Yao gave birth?" Zhang Jing was the first to react. "Hey! My granddaughter-in-law gave birth to my great-grandson on my birthday! This is the best birthday present ever." His lips gradually formed into a smile as he thought of the baby boy.
However, his face and everyone else's started to change again once they heard that Li Qin Yao gave birth in the living room with no one but Zhang Yu Han at her side.
"We're going back immediately," Zhang Jing announced.
"Grandfather, relax," Zhang Yu Ying stopped him. "Brother said that the paramedics have arrived and they are going to be transferred to the hospital for a thorough check-up. In a moment, we can all go there to visit."
Everyone started to breathe in relief upon hearing that the mother and child are both safe.
On the side, Zhang Jing looked at the little princess and smiled. "Li Xue, your mother had given birth to your baby brother. Are you happy?"
