Chapter 220: Merit points

Name:Lucifer's Descendant System Author:
Seeing that strange fiery knight coming, the Blessed Ones who were in the place frowned.

Their instincts said that that unicorn was a very powerful Rank C monster, but the knight on top of him didn't exude any monstrous aura. It was like he was just an ordinary person.

This made the Blessed even more uncomfortable.

When Noah arrived, he dismounted the unicorn and made him go back to the contract location.

Slowly he approached the Blessed and realized that as much as he was wearing flashy armor, he was not the only one.

Everyone here was a Blessed Rank C, so everyone had fortress armor as well. Some had Rank E Fortress armor, others Rank D, some Rank C, and there was even an older man who had navy blue armor that glowed slightly in addition to exuding a sense of power that made Noah suppose it was perhaps even armor from a Rank B Fortress.

Apparently what caught the attention of other people was not just Noah's armor, but mainly the mount he was riding.

There were also two young men, apparently 25 years old, who looked at Noah with a hint of envy, since they only had flashy armor but not a mount as cool as Noah's which even matched the armor he was wearing.

"You must be Noah Stern," the man in the navy blue armor said to Noah dubiously since he was still wearing the armor helmet.

Getting closer, Noah removed the helmet and replied to the man, "Yes, I am Noah."

This, however, made the people around him even more surprised when seeing Noah than before. Previously they had just looked at him with that mount and tried to find out if that person was an acquaintance of someone powerful to ask how he got it, but when Noah removed the helmet and showed his face, people were amazed.

The youngest person in the group was 24 years old, which already defined him as a great family genius, because he managed to reach Rank C at such a young agem few people achieved such a feat, even with a Rank B Blessing.

But looking at Noah, it was hard to say whether he was even over 20. Because of his good looks, if Noah had said he was 17, people might have even believed it.

But to believe that he was a Blessed Rank C at that age was difficult. They knew very well how complicated it was to rise in rank, and having such a meteoric growth required taking many risks, and taking many risks meant that one could die at any time, which discouraged many from trying to move up in rank so fast, even if they had the talent for it. A perfect example for this was Marcel, who, even with a Rank B Blessing, was still in the E / D Ranks, so as not to run the risk of an unnecessary death.

'This boy is a maniac.' It was the thought that crossed the minds of almost all the Blessed who looked at Noah. For him to have gotten here at that age, he must have almost died so many times, and yet he never stopped...

"Very well, now that you arrived, our group is complete. We will be able to start the invasion immediately, but before that we need to discuss the tactic we will use. As you know, this is the Stone Age Fortress, that is, we will deal with monsters made specifically for their own advantage. They are very resistant, unbearably resistant... The disadvantage is that they are very slow, so our formation itself will not be the crucial facet in this Fortress. Of course, I don't want to see wizards running to the frontline or warriors jumping into the middle of 5 monsters without thinking about the consequences. If you do something stupid, you will die, no more," the man said in a serious tone, like a general who was giving orders to his subordinates.

Noah didn't know what this man's identity was, but seeing how the Blessed Rank Cs who probably had unique and probably a little arrogant personalities were listening to him carefully, this man was most likely very important.

"Now for the part you most want to know: people in the outer circle will receive 30 to 80 merit points depending on their performance inside the Fortress, while people in the inner circle will receive 60 to 160 merit points based on their performance inside the Fortress," the man said in finishing, which made the eyes of the Blessed Ones around him shine.

Noah understood why people's eyes would shine when they heard how the merit points would be distributed. To facilitate how the essences would be distributed among the people of the families, the family kept all the essences and the Blessed Ones received merit points for each Fortress. These merit points could be exchanged for the essence that the Blessed person preferred, costing 400 merit points each.

If a Blessed One from the outside circle was very useful in each Fortress he participated in or he went for quite a few Fortress invasions, he would receive approximately 1,000 merit points per month, which meant that the Blessed Ones in the outer circle could receive 2 essences per month, or for some more dedicated, even 3 essences per month. That was almost 40 essences a year, which was a very good number.

And it was at this point that the Blessed Ones in the inner circle had an advantage since they received twice the merit points in the same Fortress, which meant that their growth would be twice the speed of the Blessed Ones in the outer circle with the same talent.

But it was not only that. The Blessed Ones in the inner circle not only earned more merit points in the Fortresses, but they could also participate in competitions worth merit points, or even challenge others who were Blessed to a duel where they could bet the merit points that they had. This had created a system of competition in the family that would always cause the talents to stimulate themselves to develop even faster, since they could not bear to see other people receiving more benefits than they themselves did.

And that was exactly what the Khan family wanted: for the talented Blessed to develop quickly so that they could compete against other families and gain even more prestige for the Khan family. This would, in return, reward them with hundreds or thousands of merit points.

But for these competitions only the most distinguished Blessed could participate, which made the Blessed work even harder to be able to stand out among their peers.

Of course, if the Blessed Ones in the outer circle wanted to become members of the inner circle, they could, but it would cost several thousand merit points.

All of this Noah had heard from Marcel, who after he passed the test to join the inner circle with his nomination, needed to know how the family's estate distribution system worked.

'Truly, there will always be privileged people in the world... It is good to be privileged for once...' Noah thought with gratitude to Marcel, since he had always been part of the group without privileges. 'Now I will do my best to get the most merit points here to see how useful these essences will be for me.'
