After getting the notification that Sacred Mountain was killed, Ming Du proudly put on a triumphant expression.
The Kyushu Squad was confused at the outcome.
One had to know that Sacred Mountain was in [Stealth] and he was situated a significant distance away from Ming Du. There was no way that Ming Du knew Sacred Mountain's exact position.
Regardless of any job, one had to have a target before executing any skill. It was clear that Ming Du had kept precise tabs on his opponent.
The instant Sacred Mountain went into [Stealth], Ming Du had already begun calculating his coordinates.
Ming Du's judgement was based on two assumptions. Even though he was not as precise in tracking his opponent compared to Spring Halo, he could compensate it with an AOE skill. As long as Sacred Mountain was within range, his suppression advantage against him was enough to lead him to victory.
Such a strategy was seemingly oversimplistic and crude. However, on closer scrutiny, it was detailed and even ingenious. Even though many of the players present were professional level experts, they had yet to see a Magician fighting an Assassin in this manner.
This strategy was effective because there was only one path up the mountain. Sacred Mountain was defeated partially by the terrain.
As a top expert, Sacred Mountain had to put his best foot forward even if he knew that the odds were stacked against him.
After Sacred Mountain was sent out of the arena, the third player from Kyushu Squad was chosen. It was Omnidirectional.
Omnidirectional was tall and burly with an imposing disposition. With a massive shield in his hand, it was clear as day that he was a Guardian.
Guardians were the most unique out of tanks. Even though Guardians' attack output and defense were not as dominant compared to Holy Knight, as long as their shield was not broken, they were unafraid of any attacks.
There were critical qualitative differences between the shields of Guardians and other classes. For a Holy Knight, the amount of defense they could muster with their shield was limited. An example of it was similar to Wang Yu's Energy Shield. It would easily shatter in the face of enemy collision.
Therefore, more than half of a Guardian combat strength was determined by the quality of their shield.
For Crotch Lord, his individual strength was not up to the mark of a professional level player. However, after he had equipped the Shield of God, he could easily match up to any of them. This was the true potential of good equipment.
Omnidirectional's shield looked extremely sturdy as it resembled a heavy door panel. But the design of it was decrepit which did not look compatible with top masters such as himself.
…
Ming Du celebrated in his heart upon seeing that his next opponent was a Guardian.
What was the skill that Warriors and Magicians were most afraid in a PK? It was naturally kiting. If the Warrior was not sufficient fast, he would be kited to death by a Magician.
Furthermore, Guardians were famous for their slow movement speeds. There was a significant distance from the bottom to the peak of the mountain. Ming Du was confident that he could defeat Omnidirectional before he got to him.
Omnidirectional was seemingly self-assured in his abilities. Once the match began, he slowly trudged up the mountain carrying his heavy shield.
Ming Du gazed upon Omnidirectional's arrogant demeanor and prepared to strike him. As soon as Omnidirectional got into the attack range of Ming Du, Ming Du raised his staff and summoned a row of [Icicle] to target his opponent.
[Icicle] was a basic Magician skill. It did not have high damage but it possessed a 60% slow effect. It was strongest slow within the whole arsenal of Ice Element magic. Magicians would often use to skill to slow their opponent to aid them to kite their opponents.
In the face of the [Icicle], Omnidirectional did not even evade as he raised his shield and nestled his body behind it.
"Dang, dang, dang!"
There was a series of crisp crashes which resulted in Ming Du's [Icicle] being completely blocked by Omnidirectional's shield.
At this moment, there was a simple inscription that was illuminated on Omnidirectional's shield. The [Icicle] was broken down into its constituent magic energy and absorbed by the shield. The shield shone a little brighter as its appearance was improved marginally.
"Eh?"
Seeing that Omnidirectional's shield could absorb magic, Ming Du felt a sense of deja vu. The players from the Quan Zhen Sect were also taken aback.
Sh*t, why was this scene so familiar?
Crotch Lord interjected from the side, "That's a magic shield! It can absorb magic damage. We have encountered such a shield before. I still have one with me."
"No wonder!" Everyone came to a sudden realisation.
The magic shield was an extremely rare equipment. The common shield that Guardians use could also block magic damage but it had limited efficacy in protecting the user from an overwhelming magic projectile barrage. This was contrasted to the magic shield who could absorb such a magic attack more effectively. It was simply a piece of equipment to counter Magicians.
Omnidirectional was a professional after all. It was not reasonable to assume that his equipment was garbage!
Ming Du also came to the realisation that Omnidirectional was holding a magic shield and it countered his skills. He was not Omnidirectional at this point.
Ming Du quickly formulated a new strategy as he moved towards Omnidirectional and closed their distance. With the twirl of his staff, he slammed it into the ground and created an Earthen Wall that enclosed Omnidirectional.
Following that, Ming Du pointed to the sky with a finger.
"Boom!"
A violent streak of lightning rushed from the sky to strike Omnidirectional.
Omnidirectional unhurriedly raised his shield above his head to meet the attack.
As soon as the lightning made contact with his shield, the magic inscription on it was lit up and the magic attack was silently absorbed into the shield. Once again, the shield brightened in appearance and it looked more regal.
At this instance, Ming Du raised his right hand that held his staff, calling forth flames and lightning that enveloped Omnidirectional.
[Thunderfire]!!
Guardians were so strong and invincible because of the staggering defence that their shields provided.
However, no matter how strong the shield was, there was no way to shield an attack that came from the ground. Ming Du thought, "I shall set fire to your feet and see how you handle it!"
Ming Du's skill was an early form of an AOE skill. Even though this level of skill could not keep up with the new AOE skills, when Fire and Lightning were combined, they still formed a destructive combination.
After being burnt mercilessly by Ming Du, Omnidirectional's HP bar slowly went down. He was even trapped in the Earthen Wall and had nowhere to escape.
Just when Ming Du was confident of Omnidirectional's demise, Omnidirectional suddenly concentrated power in his shield and burst through the way, leaping over Ming Du.
