Within the time they spoke, Holy Knights had already reached the end of the battle line. Wild Thunderheart, who was at the most front of the ambush, swerved his staff and shouted, "Attack!"
After Wild Thunderheart ordered, the Guardians moved into the Shield Formation then charged towards the piles of rocks beside the cliff which they built a while back.
Once the piles of rock were pushed by a collective effort, they started to roll down the cliffs.
The cliff was only eight to nine metres wide. For a cliff so high, the road was too narrow such that when the large rocks rolled down, they would bounce against the mountain, and rain down randomly, smashing into the holy knights below.
Although the Holy Knights were top elite level 60 monsters, had the hundreds of thousands of HP, and were dressed tightly in metal armours, the damage done by these falling rocks were shocking. Once hit, they could not avoid broken bones.
Even so, Holy Knights were ultimately elite monsters. It would be weird if they could be killed so easily. After being hit by these falling rocks, the Holy Knights quickly reacted. They took down the massive shield on their backs and raised it while having their backs against the mountain, temporarily withstanding the falling rocks.
By then, the Magicians had already followed the method Fearless instructed them and made fireballs to light up a batch of firewood. Quickly, Berserk Heavenlaw's Guardians turned back and picked up the light up firewood, then threw them down.
As the valley was opened by a sword, there were a lot of things on the ground. Other than rocks, there were also full-grown trees.
The Holy Knights' shields could even withstand falling giant rocks so it naturally, could withstand wood. Hence, the players on the mountain could not hit the monsters below. Instead, they aimed for the trees on the ground.
Perhaps because the wood in the game had no water content, when the wood on the ground was hit by the lighted wood, they quickly caught fire too. Countless wood on fire rained down and quickly, the narrow valley was on fire, burning strongly.
Holy Knights could not escape and so they could only hold on to their shield and retreat.
Fearless, who was in the middle of the valley, saw the flames, and ordered, "It is burning. Everyone, prepare for the second wave of attacks."
Fearless ordered and quickly, Holy Knights were chased by the fire into the middle of the valley.
Under Fearless' order, another round of falling rocks and burning wood was sent down, hitting the Holy Knights who barely had HP left. As the burning continued, half of them disappeared in a blink of an eye.
"Those at the rear, light up!" Seeing how some of them were still not eliminated after two rounds of burning, Fearless gave the players in the rear the order.
"Shouldn't we wait for them to come nearer before lighting up?" Berserk Thundergod asked.
It was also tiring for them to throw flaming wood down. If they lit up now, will not they have one less round of attack?
"It's fine. If we wait for them to come closer, they will escape." Fearless said as the end of the valley was also put on fire.
The fires at the two ends spread towards the Holy Knights by lighting up all the burnable things along the way, surrounding them. Quickly, the three ambush spots were connected into a line and the valley had turned into a sea of fire.
Holy Knights were attacked twice with little HP left. After being burned a bit more, they were left lying on the ground.
By then, Berserk Thundergod also understood as to why Fearless wanted to light up the last batch so soon.
Damn it. After the fires connected, some of these metal-wrapped cans were surrounded by fire with no way to escape. Before they reached the ambush location, they had already died.
If they waited for the Holy Knights to move closer then lit the fire, those rugged guys could have charged out.
"F*ck, how cruel…" Seeing how evil Fearless' tactic was, Berserk Thundergod broke out in cold sweat.
Fortunately, the woods that are still growing were not recognised by the system and burnable, in order to prevent players from setting mountains on fire. Or else, Quan Zhen Sect just needed to start a fire in the forest, they could burn everyone alive in Thunderstorm City.
This was indeed the most reputable evil brain of the game. Murder and arson were his newest game.
Soon, the last Holy Knight collapsed, and the system sent a notification.
"F*ck, just 10%? Could there by 9 more rounds?" Seeing the system notification, everyone was stunned. The happiness they felt from the victory a while ago was immediately washed away.
"I even thought that there was only just this round… I was still wondering why it was so easy to pass such a large dungeon quest. So they want to play 'defense tower' with us."
Tower defense game was something everyone played before, so they saw the similarity after it was mentioned. Everyone agreed but also felt how challenging the quest was.
The toughest level of the tower defense game had roads that were very bent. However, there was only one straight road here and they could not even level up their canons. At this thought, everyone suddenly realised how extremely challenging this quest was.
"Wait, we haven't picked our equipments." Someone said while looking down at the sea of fire below the cliff.
Everyone heard his words then looked at one another, "What! Why are we even here when we can't even pick up equipments?
After all, all that mattered in a game was its rewards. Since there were no rewards, everyone lost their fighting spirit.
"Forget it. Anyways it was just a small monster, nothing too good will come out of it. Don't be upset, now that everything below is on fire, the second wave of attacks would very likely be a confrontational battle. By then, we would be able to pick our equipments." Fearless quickly comforted as he saw everyone's fighting spirit disappear.
It was just the second wave of attacks and it was already so challenging. How could they fight the remaining rounds? Those guys in the city were still searching. If they were wiped out then, the mission would end.
"F*ck, can we win a confrontational battle?" Everyone was fearful as those were level 60 cream of the crop monsters. It would definitely not be easy to defeat them.
"They are just a bunch of data. Everyone, listen to my command and we will win." Fearful said as he sent a message to the guild chat, "Damn it, Hidden Lurker was really pitiful to have to lead this bunch of cowards. How many houses have you guys gone through?"
"Houses? Not even an alley's worth," Ming Du said upsettingly.
They had no other way. Even NPCs did not know where Regis was, so they had to go house-to-house. Wang Yu and the rest crazily went through every house but as Atlanta City was too big, after a dozen of them looked around for ten-odd minutes, they did not even finish an ally.
"We can't go on like this. I keep feeling as though we forgot something," Fearless said in deep thought.
"Why don't you ask Reynolds?" Ming Du began giving his bad ideas.
Fearless said, "Ask your head. Reynolds is fighting one-on-one with those people in the sky. Am I supposed to go and seek my death?"
"Hey, I think I know where Regis is." Just then, Wang Yu suddenly spoke.
