253 Brayden’s surgery

min the waiting room they have the family meeting with some on FaceTime calls. Astila explains what the kids told him and Dude tells them what they found. Eve's husband lets them know that he has already been in contact with the bureau's office in Chicago, that he will work with them. Yona along with Onacona and Inola are heading home with the twins. Salali has arrived and she can take care of their mom till this is over. Salali's daughter not wanting to be left out insists on coming with them. Alex and William are exhausted but Brayden is in good shape now. His vital organs are repaired and the clot is gone. They have him in an enchanted sleep till Astila takes him into surgery. That way his body can continue to heal. Winona's brother comes in with the information that Astila needed, handing it to Marshal to give to the agent on his way to the hospital. Dr Chavez looks at them puzzled. Winona explains. 

"It turns out it was not an accident that someone targeted Brayden. His spine is damaged by a bullet. We need to find out why it was not found when he was brought in. Since the helicopter picked him up at the track and flew him straight here the person who examined could only be here. So we are having your staff investigated. " 

Winona's brother pulls his phone out and calls the Hr department.

" I need the personal files on every person who was in the emergency room on the night of August twenty six, Including radiology . I need the information immediately either I receive it or your office will be overrun by the FBI. There better not be a single person's file missing is that understood. Make sure to include all time cards as well." Dr Chavez turns to his sister and tells her. 

"I will have the security team pull all video from that day as well. So that we can be sure nothing is missed. Tell the agents my door is open if they need anything else. " dr Chavez goes into Brayden's room and looks at his nephew and he sees the two boys sleeping on the floor next to him. Thinking how grateful he is that his sister has found such a close loving family to raise her son in. If only he could find a love like hers. He turns to leave when a beautiful girl comes in she hugs Winona and Marshal, wondering who she is he goes out to sit with them for awhile. The girl is teasing her Uncle Marshal relentlessly making everyone laugh. When she sees the Dr walk in she quieted down. Dr Chavez walks over to her and puts out his hand. 

"hi , I'm Cora Barnes and I'm Marshal and Winona's niece. It's nice to meet you. I hope I wasn't being to loud but they all look so gloomy that my poor Bray will never wake up to these sour faces. May I ask for a favor?" Cora looks at the Dr. Dr Chavez nods ok. 

"Can I use your medical library, I have my thesis to finish and I don't want to be to far away." Cora looks at him hopefully. Dr Chavez  smiles and asks 

"what is your thesis on?" Wondering what she is majoring in. 

"well before Aunt Winona married my uncle I was in an accident and I became interested in neurology. So I am doing a study on how the brain works when A person is in a coma. I am hoping since your hospital is a trauma center that I can find some information that I wouldn't be able find elsewhere." Cora explains. 

Dr Chavez thinks to himself this could be my chance to get to know her better. 

"I am not just the chief of staff, my speciality is neurology. I could help you if you like?" He asks her. Cora's eyes light up and she nods enthusiastically yes. Dr Chavez smiles brightly and tells her. 

"After Brayden has surgery and is on the mend we can spend sometime together and I can answer your questions. " dr Chavez excuses himself so that he doesn't make it too obvious that he is just wanting to spend time with her. 

Astila gets the notice that the operating room is ready for surgery. Giving Winona a hug he tells her. 

"don't worry our boy will be fine , I will do what I can to insure he has no problems." Astila holds out his hands to the family and asks that they pray before he goes in. Never refusing an opportunity to pray they all join hands to pray fir a successful surgery. Going into the scrub room Astila notices someone who looks suspicious and nervous. Checking the roster he sees a name that looks familiar. The assistant nurse has the same last name as Grove . Not wanting to take any chances Astila calls for the head of the department. He tells him. 

"this Nurse she seems to nervous for my liking. I want her removed, I would like you to call this nurse instead. " the man looks affronted and starts to argue then he sees who the patient is. And that they were given orders to give this Dr whatever he wants. Curious as to whet the big deal is he asks 

"so I'm curious as to why you are doing the surgery and not our staff surgeon?" 

Astila looks down at the man his he's expressionless and coldly answers. 

"since I helped develop this procedure don't you think I am the most qualified. Do you even know who I am. I am Dr Astila People, I am one of the top thoracic surgeons in the country I am also on staff at John Hopkins as a researcher and Professor. I have a doctorate in both thoracic cardiology and neurology. Anymore questions. Astila makes a point of being as arrogant as possible as to intimidate the man. The man mumbles an apology and goes to get the other nurse. When she sees who has asked for her she is all smiles. 

"Astila love how are you, it's been a long time? How is the wife and those lovely twins of yours?" The older nurse comes in and gives him an affectionate hug. The dr in charge of the department is in shock he has never heard this woman speak with such warmth. 

"Becky love I'm doing well, I want you to assist on this case the nurse I saw earlier was a little to nervous for my peace of mind." Astila tells her. 

"Oh her , well no worries it will be like old times helping you out today." The scorn in Beky's voice does not go unnoticed by Astila. The two go back into the scrub room to dismiss the other nurse. 

when the nurse comes out she has an angry look on her face. 

"why was I replaced , what are we to do now? If the boy lives my brother will have no problem coming after us." She looks at the Dr in front of her knowing that the boy is to die. The Dr gives her a sly grin. 

"Don't worry we can make sure he dies in post op and then mr high and mighty will be blamed." The two walk away not realizing that Cora had slipped down to watch the surgery from the observation room with Dr Chavez. Seeing him she tells him what she over heard. He calls HR to check to see if they were on duty the night Brayden came in. Sure enough they both were there. He calls Marshal and asks him to give the agent a call that he may have the suspects. Giving him the names he hangs up . Calling the scheduling nurse he tells her that under no circumstances is these two people to be near his nephew. He also calls hospital security and puts them on alert. Brayden has been through enough in his short life he will not be hurt if he can prevent it. Taking Cora to the observation room they watch Astila perform the surgery. It's a delicate procedure but he does it with ease. Now they just have to hope that there will be no damage from the impact of the bullet. Astila tells the nurse to bag the bullet carefully that it's evidence of an attempted murder. The nurse looks at the young man on the table and wonders who could possibly want to hurt a child.
