Chapter 37 - The Silent Father

Chapter 37 The Silent Father

Qin Yue pulled out the surveillance footage of the pinhole camera installed at Xue Na’s house to check on her movements over the past few days.

She realized that Xue Na was plotting other ways to get close to Kan Chen. However, she was always extremely cautious when she spoke to others on the phone. She would repeatedly change her SIM cards, install anti-tracking devices, and use special codes to communicate.

Qin Yue was unable to obtain more information from Xue Na’s calls, but the latter’s cautiousness made her uneasy.

Has she discovered that I was monitoring her?

Qin Yue called Li Mo, hoping to get some suggestions from him, but his phone remained unanswered.

Qin Yue was thinking about her next step when Qin Ze suddenly called.

“Come back for a while. Pack up the miscellaneous items that you don’t need and throw them away. We’ll be moving to a manor in the city center in two days.”

Before Qin Yue could ask why her father was suddenly moving, he had already hung up.

Qin Ze rarely made any calls to Qin Yue. Even when he did, it was because he wanted to order her to do certain things, and he would speak to her emotionlessly.

Back home, Qin Yue packed up the items in her room.

The servants were also busy packing up the rest of the house. It seemed like Qin Ze was moving in a hurry and didn’t inform anyone beforehand.

A maid knocked on Qin Yue’s bedroom door. “Young Miss, I found your childhood toys and the late Madam’s belongings in the storeroom. Can you please help to confirm if they should be brought along?”.

When Qin Yue came to the storeroom, she kept sneezing because of the thick layer of dust.

Qin Ze had always placed these things in the storeroom and refused to throw them away. He also didn’t allow others to enter and sort them out.

Qin Yue removed all the items from the shelves and packed them into a box.

She tidied up her mother’s belongings and looked through a photo album with pictures of her mother and her.

In one photo, Gu Zhen was hugging Qin Yue and smiling happily.

Qin Yue suddenly recalled what Xu Lan said.

It turns out that my eyes really resembled my mother’s.

Qin Yue placed the heavy photo album in the box and organized the paintings that she had drawn when she was young. Then, a yellowed letter fell from the canvas.

Qin Yue opened the letter. The ink on the letter had mostly faded, and she could barely make out the contents.

It seemed as though it was a young woman’s letter to her lover, expressing her love for him and longing for their beautiful future.

Qin Yue looked at the signature. It was signed with a beautifully written alphabet, “G.”

This was probably a love letter her mother had written to her father.

Although Qin Ze had never told Qin Yue about his love affair with Gu Zhen, the latter had once shared something with Qin Yue when she was young. Back then, Gu Zhen had ignored the objections of her family and bravely pursued Qin Ze. In the end, the two of them walked down the aisle after receiving the blessings of their parents.

Hence, Qin Yue had always believed that as long as she bravely pursued true love, it would come to her.

Qin Yue shrugged and carefully placed the letter and photo album together.

When she was done packing, she saw Qin Ze’s car parked at the entrance. “We’re leaving. Why are you taking so long?” Qin Ze complained sternly.

Qin Yue looked at his graying sideburns. This time, she didn’t rebut him.

“You’re just unhappy with everything that I say or do. Can you at least tell me why you’re in a hurry to move? The current manor is quite close to the company.”

“Kan Chen and you are getting married soon. Before you get married, there will definitely be many eyes on you. I’ve hired more bodyguards for you. You have to be more careful during this period.”

Qin Ze didn’t answer her question at all.

“I’m no longer a child. I’m very powerful now,” Qin Yue muttered softly as she looked out the window.

On the way, the father and daughter pair remained silent until Qin Ze sent her to the entrance of Pengfei Corporation.

Kan Chen seemed to know that Qin Yue was coming, so he waited at the entrance to welcome her.

“I’ll have to trouble you to take good care of her for the next few days. I’ll be back after settling some matters,” Qin Ze said to Kan Chen.

Kan Chen nodded and bade farewell to Qin Ze.

Before Qin Yue knew what the two of them were talking about, Qin Ze had already gotten into the car and asked the driver to drive off.

Qin Yue complained to Kan Chen, “Wait, why am I the only one who doesn’t know what happened?”

“That’s enough, my little princess. Mr. Qin has something important to do these few days, so I’m here to protect you.” He suddenly slung her over his shoulder and threw her into his car despite her resistance.

Qin Ze sat in the car and frowned. He put out the cigarette in his hand and hesitated for a long time before calling the number in his hand. “We need to talk.”
