The city was increasingly getting into the mood of celebrating Chinese New Year.
Even the clinic wasn’t just an icy white color anymore, containing a few more different colors. On the two sides of the glass door were two “Fu” (blessing in Chinese). The nurse by the receptionist desk also placed two golden and sparkling maneki-nekos.
It wasn’t as indifferent as it was with the scent of overwhelming disinfectant, but it felt more amiable and lively.
Chen Jinyao packed her things up simply and took over her medical mask, pushing her office door and walking out. Closely following her was her patient today. He didn’t have any big issues, just a tooth decay. She delivered his form to him and reminded him in detail. Then, she went to the receptionist desk to see if there were any snacks that he could grab to fill his stomach for now.
She had been in her office for about an hour. It was already 10:30. She was long hungry.
The new nurse, Xiao Liu, was sitting in front of the receptionist desk. Chen Jinyao walked over and the nurse hurriedly stood up, a bit nervous and helpless.
“Am I that scary?” Chen Jinyao tilted her head and couldn’t help but chuckle. “Hm? You’re watching TV while on duty?”
“N…no.” But it seemed about right. She was too busy chatting with her colleague on duty yesterday. Now that Chen Jinyao exposed this, Xiao Liu started to stumble on her words. Indeed, she was frightened, having been caught in the act. She really wasn’t like this normally. After a while, she found her voice, tugging the corner of her lips up awkwardly but politely. “Um, Doctor Chen, your husband is here.”
She paused before continuing, “We couldn’t stop him either. He’s in your office.”
Hearing this, Chen Jinyao lifted her brows and a tint of surprise flickered past her eyes. For a moment, she forgot about the reason behind her coming to the receptionist desk. She stopped for a few seconds before nodding and leaving.
Her high heels even clicked against the floor rhythmically.
Seeing that Chen Jinyao returned to her office, Xiao Liu sat down and sighed. Everyone within the click knew that Chen Jinyao had married not too long ago, and it was due to a blind date. Clearly, this became the topic of discussion for afternoon tea for these people. After all, it seemed like she was anxious to get married, marrying someone that she had seen only for the first time. Even more, Doctor Chen didn’t even get a wedding with the man she married. She just got her marriage certificate and had a honeymoon with him. However, they hadn’t seen her husband come pick her up at the clinic before. As time passed, they automatically thought of Chen Jinyao as having a failed marriage. They then gradually started to avoid this topic while they were resting and just chatting about.
If they wanted to survive at their workplace, then they shouldn’t pry into their boss’ personal life.
However, although they hadn’t talked about it in public, it was inevitable for them to have thoughts inside. Xiao Liu had seen enough examples of beauties paired with beasts. Occasionally, she’d have some dark thoughts, thinking that it must be because Doctor Chen’s husband wasn’t handsome enough which was why she didn’t want to bring him out.
Her phone rang, and her screen lit up.
Her colleague, Xiao Li, had responded.
Xiao Li knew how to catch the crucial point too. Or rather, as an inexperienced person that was just introduced to society, they enjoyed catching the same crucial point: was Doctor Chen’s husband handsome?
“He’s so handsome!” Xiao Liu gradually lowered her head and pressed on the speaker, sighing. “I can’t explain it either. He just looks charmingly like an evildoer.”
Xiao Li: …what do you mean charmingly like an evildoer?
“Ah, I don’t know how to explain it. He’s just handsome and tall.”
Her superficial self has already started guessing darkly. Maybe it was because Doctor Chen’s husband was too charming that she wanted to hide him?
Her fingertips tapped the screen. Xiao Liu thought about it before typing: but I feel like our Doctor Chen can’t handle her husband.
