After the night rain, he thought the sky would clear up.
But unexpectedly, it began to snow. It wasn’t just a tiny bit of snow that melted as soon as it touched the ground. When he pulled the curtains apart and looked out, all he could see were fluttering snowflakes.
Yan Cheng tossed the phone back to Chen Jinyao and looked down at her, lips turning up. He said, matter-of-factly, “Stay at home and rest these next few days. You own the clinic anyway, it’s okay to skip work.”
“Besides, it’s the weekends tomorrow,” he added.
“…” Chen Jinyao dared not affirm that. She shrunk her head back into her blanket, leaving behind only a pair of large eyes. After a short moment of silence, she said, “You think I’m just like you, able to enjoy a retirement life at home? Go and take a look at yourself in the mirror, you’re getting fat! You won’t look good if you get fatter.”
Yan Cheng did not pay attention to such deliberate provocations.
In truth, with the imminent reopening of the Er Pavilion, there were many things that required his presiding over. Seems like he won’t have many days left where he could play with the cat all day at home.
He took a deep sigh and slowly headed for the bed, tugging at Chen Jinyao’s long hair that was draped over the pillow, he forcefully changed the topic. “Your last period didn’t seem this bad, did it?”
Chen Jinyao clicked her tongue and shook her head to shake off Yan Cheng’s hand that was messing up her hair. “It hurts about this much most of the time.” The less painful ones were in the minority, or so to say the ones that didn’t hurt so much that she couldn’t stand it.
Yan Cheng’s hand paused.
Then, his frown grew even deeper.
Staring at her pale, bloodless cheeks, he said, “Go have it checked out at the hospital later.”
“No need.” Chen Jinyao popped her head back out of the covers. Raising her jaw slightly, she said, “I’ll be back to life in two days.”
Yan Cheng’s brows frowned even further.
He clearly disagreed with what Chen Jinyao said.
He narrowed his eyes and pursed his lips as if searching for a suitable reason to persuade her to give up on this strenuous and dangerous idea.
“That treats the symptoms, not the root cause.” Yan Cheng grabbed Chen Jinyao’s chin.
He stroked his thumb over the smooth skin.
Even though Chen Jinyao couldn’t break free, she was still able to respond righteously, “I’m a doctor.” I know my own physical condition.
The best way to deal with these symptoms if by conditioning with Chinese medicine.
The conditioning cycle was quite long, and you had to drink bitter medicine each and every day.
At that, Yan Cheng sneered. “You’re just a dentist.”
Chen Jinyao stuck out the tip of her tongue and licked her lip. “…”
“……”
Fortunately, the sound of stomach rumbling broke the stalemate.
After things suddenly went silent, the sound of the rumbling was particularly striking.
Yan Cheng glanced over at the alarm clock on the bedside table, then he turned his attention back on Chen Jinyao who was shaking from the effects of her period. He pursed his lips and subconsciously treated her as a patient, and even a frail one that required care and attention.
There were priorities, and the current priority was to fill her stomach.
“I’ll go make you breakfast.” He conceded and gave up on trying to change her mind.
But he was secretly planning in his mind. If Chen Jinyao is dead set on continuing with this, then he’ll just carry her straight to the hospital.
