Chapter 365

It was not a good day. Well, when the rifts started appearing all over the world, there was never a good day. Every day was the same, a bad day.

A woman was using a drake to discover the situation about the island of Bohol.

"… I can't believe that they did this in just two weeks."

Rena Scott, the Wind Cutter, muttered as she looked at the island of Bohol. It was a great island and a lot of people were living on the island. However, when the invasion started, every Hunter became busy protecting their turfs, so they couldn't help the other places. They would prioritize themselves and their families first before helping others. Just like what Rena did.

She protected Cebu first. When she confirmed that her province was safe, she started traversing the other islands to fend off the Demons. However, she still failed to protect all of them, she was just a human. She couldn't save all of them, despite being known as the sharpest blade of the country.

She was injured and she needed rest, just like the others. So when she reached Bohol, it was already late. Every strand of her skin stood up as she sensed the dreary aura of corruption manifesting on the island. Despite the wide range of 4,820.95 km², the Demons still accomplished corrupting the whole island. It was frightening. Now she understood why the demihumans were afraid of the Demons, not because of their insanity nor ferocity. It was because of the essence that they released that killed the lives around them.

Rena choked as she turned back. She clenched her fists and blood crept out, this was too much. Yet, she was weak, so she couldn't complain. She didn't have a person to complain to anyway. All she could do was accept the fact that Bohol and millions of people on the said island were dead.

"Shit!... Fufuhehehahahahaahahah!!!"

Yet, she was grinning, laughing loudly. She strongly slapped herself but the huge grin on her face couldn't be erased. She hide her stifled laugh and called the Philippines Hunter Association, or to be precise, she called Chairman Renato.

"Hello, ah, yes Chairman, this is Rena… I just want to say that Bohol has fallen and it's impossible to save it anymore… And… Actually, no, nothing, never mind."

She didn't know why she couldn't say that she was infected by the corruption. She slapped herself and the huge grin on her face disappeared and her expression became devastated. As if she was truly sad about her country.

Rena was corrupted.

She fought a Demon Duke, she won but she was greatly injured. Because of this, she became corrupted.

There was no way to know if a person was corrupted if the usual symptoms were not showing. After all, some insane people didn't appear to be crazy at all.

Rena commanded her drake and they started flying away from the dead and lifeless island. It was beautiful before, but now, only Demons could step on this island without getting crazy. After all, they were already crazy.

"Ah~~ I'm quite jealous."

The real enemies were the friends we had along the way.

………

……

Furrneka stepped into a certain wrecked city in Austria. She heard from Miriam that Mikael was undergoing a painful process and Furrneka's presence was needed.

When Furrneka learned the truth, she realized that Mikael would be greatly devastated. So she didn't hesitate to part with the others to find Mikael.

Together with the help of the best tracker in the world, Miriam, Furrneka found a way to reach him faster. However, it didn't change the fact that it still took a week to find him, because Mikael always changed his location. He was always hunting Demons, in fact, he didn't rest at all.

From the moment he separated from Andromeda, Mikael killed Demons nonstop. That's why Furrneka's travel was filled with hardship. On top of that, she fought a lot of Demons on the way. She was injured many times, and the only thing that kept her away from quitting was her love for Mikael. She understood that Mikael needed her right now.

Or else she might lose Mikael forever, which was the most frightening thing that she wanted. She gritted her teeth as she walked forward.

Her senses felt the adverse effects, the corruption was lingering in this place. Strongly lingering, in fact, the center of the city was impossible to live on anymore.

However, Furrneka didn't stop. She took another step and she realized that the dead bodies of the Demons were increasing as she got closer. She swallowed her saliva while witnessing the scene.

"Kuck…!"

She felt like her chest would explode. The corruption was truly suffocating, she felt like her head was getting muffled, dizzy, and she wanted to kill people. Furrneka had strong resistance against corruption but it didn't mean that she was immune. She was still a mortal, not a God, she could resist the curse but once she stepped into a corruption manifested place, just like this, there was a strong chance that she might get infected again.

But did Furrneka care? No, she didn't care at all. She just wanted to see Mikael, hug him, and tell him that everything would be alright.

"Please, I'm begging you… I want to see him. Please, I beg you, Mikael should be alright…"

She didn't know what she was saying. In the first place, she didn't know who she was talking to. Was she talking to herself, or was she calling help from God?

The foul smell of death, and the bodies of Demons and humans around, they were horrible to see. Truly the meaning of war.

"Mikael…"

But when Furrneka found Mikael, her eyes trembled and tears started falling. Her voice became hoarse and she felt like was being choked so hard that she couldn't breathe.

She raised her head and looked up at the Mountain of Death, dead bodies being put on until it became a mountain. She found a lonely man sitting on top of the dead bodies as if he became the God of Death. His eyes lost their vibrant, he was a lifeless man. There was a silhouette of a beast beside him but the beast was growling, ready to feast on the Demons.

On top of that, the person was covered with black blood. He stared so far away, he was looking for someone.

"Mikael…"

She hiccuped, sobbing as if she lost someone important in her life.

Furrneka understood that… Mikael would never be the same after this.
