"I thought about it and have decided to continue working here till I find a new job" I said to Robbie who was looking at me unblinkingly
"You made the correct decision" he smiled. It was very forceful and tight smile.
His mouth opened many times and closed like he wanted to say something but was restraining himself. It's better if he doesn't say anything. I don't think my heart is prepared to hear any more of his apology or love confession esp when I don't even know if they are true or if he had some ulterior motive behind them.
"Don't think am doing this for you. It is just for my son" I don't know why, I felt the need to clarify this. Somehow, I was worried he might get the wrong idea.
"I never said it was because of me" Robbie said, looking at me with such gentleness that I had never seen in his eyes before.
I quickly turned away. I can't allow myself to be attracted to this guy. He had given me enough pain and now I am happy without him. I can't let my peaceful life be ruined by him.
"Tony" Robbie suddenly called. My hands were almost on the door knob when I stopped. His voice was very soft almost like the whispers of the wind. I looked back
"I" he began but stopped. He seemed to be struggling with what he wanted to say. I waited.
"I am- I" he began again and stammered, "Tony can't we start again?" he ultimately said looking a little desperate
Somehow, I was expecting those words so it didnt surprised me. I don't know what was he hoping for. Rekindling our relationship after eight years? That too when it was him who discarded me? No, it's not so easy. My pain, hurt, sorrow and my honest love for him, he turned blind eye to everything. I am not prepared to forgive him and face him everyday. So, I ended up saying
"Robbie, stop dreaming" and I walked out of the room closing the door hard behind me. My heart was pounding fast enough for me to hear it.
I have to stop thinking about this. I can't let him in my life again. I quickly walked to reach the resturant "Garnish" where I am assigned. Though, the Chinese restaurant "Hot and Sour" and the coffee shop "Timepass" were also under my juridiction. Since, I was promoted, my work had only gotten extra hard but my salary too has doubled, so I guess I have to bear with it.
Being Sous Chef was a huge responsibility. My main work area was not the only one I have to look after. The two resturant and a coffee shop I was incharge of, I had to look after them too. It was my duty to make sure that chefs were working properly and orders are delivered rightly and on time. I had to get updates from the demi chefs under me from time to time about the sales and feedback and report it to Excutive Sous Chef. I also had to make an indent of the items that would be required in the three kitchen. The items that were stored in the cold kitchen were fresh or not, the items that are nearing the expiry dates must be used up etc were all the things I had to look after. I was incharge of waste control, menu planning, handling guests, the live stations, etc. The whole day seem to pass by in a blink of an eye. I was running all over the place trying to balance my work. It was so hectic that I completely forgot about Robbie. People were right when they say that working is the best way to keep your mind away from useless matters.
I didn't even realize when my shift got over. It was not until the Executive Sous Chef mocked me if I plan to spent the entire day in the Resort that I realized my working time was over. The Resort had just opened few weeks back and is already so busy. I don't even want to think what would happen when it starts to operate full blown. I packed my stuff and hurried to the parking area. I was about to unlock the car door, when I heard something.
"What are you doing? Stop!" said a female voice which I immediately recognised as Tanya
"Jus shut it b*tch. Nawt like I as'ed chu to reelease those pheromones" a male voice said
"How-Stop NOOOO" Tanya screamed
I dropped my car keys and broke into a run. What was going on? The voice came from the last corner of the parking. It was the blind side of the security camera. I quickly called the control room and asked the security for help.
As I reached the end, I saw a burly guy who didn't look like a staff was on top of Tanya on the floor. His one hand was grabbing on to one of her wrist above her head. His head was hiding hers. He raised his head when he heard my footsteps and Tanya's face was revealed. Her hair was messy, her eyes black with her eyeliner smudged due to tears and lipstik marks on her cheek. Her coat was off of one of her hands and her top pulled down by the guy. I saw her purse beside her
"Leave her. What the hell are you doing?" I shouted. This guy was clearly trying to sexually assault her.
The guy didn't seem to be in his right mind. He glowered at me and spoke with slurring words, "Nawt like I wanna. Tis b*tcch is spading her f*cking smell everywhere"
Smell? Shit!! She is an Omega!!! How come I never knew it in these three years of knowing and working with her. I am an Omega. I won't get the smell. But a Beta and Alpha would be affected by it. This man doesn't look like an Alpha, otherwise, he would have lost all his senses and control. He is drunk and looks like a guest. Damnit! I can't be impolite to him. But I have to help her before the securities reach. It would be a greater trouble if they come and get affected by the smell too.
"Sir, she is a staff. You can't treat her with disrespect. The securities are on their way. Please leave her" I tried to reason
But the man seemed to get triggered by my words. "CHU ASSHAWL" he bellowed, "Chu dare ta tak like taat wid me" he slurred getting up and swaying, "I will beat the cr*p outta ya" he punched in the air. I dodged and hit him in the neck acu-point which makes you unconscious. He fell flat on his chest and fainted.
I breathed a sigh of relief. Thank God! He was so drunk, and easily fainted otherwise, it would have been worse. I quickly went to Tanya, who was looking terrified. I had seen that look in many of the Omegas who had gone through such harrowing experience in my Welfare Centre. She was trembling terribly as she put her hand through her coat. I picked up her purse which was lying next to her and helped her stand up. She almost fell down while standing as her legs didn't seem to have any strength.
"Where are your medication?" I asked
"I-I-I forgot" she stuttered and burst into tears
