After they were done with their work of taking out the trash, Will ordered Rao to drive them to Liz's house.
There wasn't much talking on the way, as Liz was worried about Luke's surgery which was tomorrow.
However, she knew what VIP treatment meant in a hospital. He would definitely only have the best of doctors who would do everything in their capability to make sure that he would be fine.
Soon, they approached the villa.
Will hadn't spoken till now as he had seen the expression of worry on Liz's face. He didn't know how to break the silence, so he let it stay, opting to think about everything that had happened in these few days.
Rao, on the other hand, seemed to be observing both of them with intelligent eyes.
When they finally reached the house, before either had a chance to exit the car, he said, "Mr. Will, Miss. Liz, please stay in the car. There might be reporters or more spies around; my senses tell me that there is something I've missed. I'll go and check it out, and be back in a little while."
Saying this and seeing them nod, Rao smiled inwardly and got out of the car before walking seriously in a direction.
The car had heavily tinted windows which made it so that nothing inside was visible to the outside, but he knew that both of them must be following his back. So, he put on his 'spy on business' walk.
However, after crossing the corner, he leisurely whistled before leaning back on the wall, taking out a cigar from his pocket and smoking it.
Meanwhile, in the car, both of them had indeed been watching as Rao had disappeared at the corner.
As her line of thought had been interrupted, Liz was now more aware of where she was and whom she was with.
The CEO had done so much for her; he had admitted to the whole world that he was dating her, and he had even planned the chance just now where Liz had been able to obtain revenge for her friend. Moreover, he had even ensured that Luke had the best lawyers and doctors.
He had done so much, and she hadn't even thanked him?
True, their relationship was barely at the level of 'friend' now, due to the talk they had during their date. Still, there was no way that they were at a point where Liz didn't even need to thank the CEO for being so thoughtful.
Hence, opening her mouth, she said "Thank you," but paused when she heard the CEO say "I'm sorry-" at the same time.
Turning to the side, she looked into the CEO's eyes which were filled with…guilt?
Why was the man feeling guilty?
"Mr. Will, I am really thankful that you did so much for me. Talking at that press conference like that might not have changed the minds of many reporters, but…I really appreciate it, because I felt your support. You even complimented me during that conference, and I need to thank you for that too. But what are you sorry for?"
Hearing her speak like this, the corner of Will's mouth raised, but the guilt was still there.
Thinking for a bit, he replied, "Don't you blame me for getting into this whole thing because you had a date with me? No matter how much we do, you will be in the eyes of the journalists. There might be some bold ones who won't care about being sued to still write about you. I've…pulled you into a world that crushes many people. Makes them do drugs to compensate, thereby destroying their lives. That too, it happened without you having any wish to be pulled into it in the first place. I should have thought about it beforehand. I'm sorry."
Will had said these words while looking down, aimlessly, but he now raised his head to look at Liz.
However, seeing that she actually seemed dumbstruck for some reason, he was shocked.
"Hahahahaha!"
As she burst out laughing, his shock only increased.
As if she realized that it was inappropriate to react in this way when the CEO had laid out his feelings, she controller her laughter and said, "So…what do you want to do now? Because you feel so guilty, do you want to stop dating me?"
This question completely threw off Will, but he answered almost instinctively, saying, "N-no! I never said that! It's just that…"
Interrupting Will, Liz spoke in a determined voice.
"Good. Mr. Will, let me make it clear to you. It was my choice to go on that date with you, so I don't think you need to feel responsible at all for something that happened in which we had no control. I do not blame other people for my choices. In fact, I think doing that is disgusting. And regarding the thing about my pulling me into some world-I can handle it. I am NOT someone who is crushed when there is pressure-instead, I only bounce back and fight. No matter what they throw at me, I can handle it, and I WILL handle it. Humph, it's definitely nothing compared to growing up in the toughest neighborhood in New York with nothing and no one but a friend to rely on. I do feel the need to tell you this, though. I don't know whom you had a relationship with before, but if you think I'm the type of prissy woman who will throw tantrums if you do something wrong and then become all better if you buy me a gift, then you are very sorely mistaken. So, think about that. Good night, Mr. Will."
Towards the end of her speech, a knock had sounded on the door, signaling that Rao had returned.
So, leaving these words, Liz got out of the car and walked to the house.
Will, of course, could only sit and stare at her back while his inner voice that warned him to stay away and not feel feelings for her kept getting pushed back and beaten, slowly and surely.
