Unlike Will, Keren did not seem like a stickler for gourmet food. After reaching downstairs, she called a cab and got on after instructing the driver to take them to the nearest restaurant that had good Indian food.
Of course, all the while, she didn't let go of Luke's hand, as if she was afraid that he might bolt if she did. Luke tried to pull it out a few times, but gave up after that, choosing to stay grumpy.
He was going to get information on the 'enemy', so he decided that he would do whatever was necessary to make that happen.
The cab driver enthusiastically took them to a restaurant two blocks away, and his happiness only peaked when Keren thanked him, blew him a kiss and tipped him heavily.
This woman was a bonafide temptress, he thought, seeing this and also remembering what had happened at his room's doorway before.
As he was usually shrewd when he wasn't riled up due to things that affected his heart, Luke could astutely see that she was just a fun-loving woman, and that she didn't think too much about these small gestures.
He actually admired women like these-who did what they wanted without caring for the judgment of society, but he shook his head and throttled this thought.
No. He couldn't think nicely of anyone from that family. Liz had trusted that William, but she had been so hurt. This must definitely be something that ran in their blood.
Luke was a little judgemental, himself, and he knew that. However, he was someone who was always prepared to listen to logic.
Even now, if it weren't for his own feelings for Liz, he would have been more critical of that William instead of directly disliking.
After entering the restaurant, being seated and ordering, Luke looked at Keren who had mostly been silent till now and said, "Well? You said you will tell me about your brother. Go on."
With a small smile at the corner of her lips, Karen answered, "Not so fast, mister. First, you need to answer my question. Why didn't you call your father even though you were going through surgery?"
The question shocked Luke, making his eyes widen with anger.
His father. The very mention of that man made him want to break everything in front of him.
As memories buried deep within his memories started to resurface, he forcefully pushed them down and said through gritted teeth, "None of your damn business."
In response, Keren only furrowed her eyebrows and didn't pursue the topic.
Instead, she started to tell him about random stuff, like how she really liked spicy food and had it whenever she could.
Luke was puzzled as to why she was talking about these topics, but he decided to just ignore her and wait till she spoke about the topic he was interested in.
Hence, no matter what she said, he just idly stared around at the waiters or the other diner.
Finally, after 10 minutes of speaking non-stop and being ignored, it seemed that Keren had had enough.
"If you aren't interested in talking to me, get out. Leave. I dragged you here saying I would tell you something, yes, but isn't it minimum courtesy to listen to your host? Just go."
Seeing her anger, Luke actually…felt that he might have pushed it too far.
What did this woman do wrong? She just happened to be the sister of the man he hated, but that didn't mean he had to hate her by default too.
At least, there was no excuse for him to be so rude.
"I apologize. I'll listen, but why are you telling me all this?", he said, making Keren smile instantly.
This made Luke wonder: had that anger been fake? Or could someone actually shift between emotions so quickly?
He didn't have the time to dwell further on that topic, as when Keren spoke in response, what she said deeply affected his mind and made him go blank for a moment.
"I'm talking about myself because I want you to know me, so that you can open yourself up and let me know you. I know your next question is 'why' so let me answer that too. Pretty boy, you're just looking out for your best friend. As for any feelings you might have for her, I have no right to speak about them, and I don't even care about them as I'm a hundred percent sure that Liz will never feel torn between you two romantically. You can choose to deny this, but you must know that its true. You just don't want to admit it. Anyway, I'm doing the same thing.I'm looking out for my best friend- my brother. I know how close you and Liz are. I know that you will always be a part of her life. So, I want to get to know you so that I can know beforehand what kind of person you are. This will let me know whether I need to worry about you being a hazard to my brother's relationship by influencing Liz. If that is so, believe me, I will do everything in my power to destroy you. He is my brother, and between us two, he's actually the less ruthless one. Don't worry, though. My initial analysis of you is that you are someone nice, too. I just need to make sure of that. So, sit down and talk, and after some time, I can tell you about my brother. Or leave, and leave me no choice but to find what I want through other methods."
As Luke heard her tell him all of her intentions so clearly, he couldn't help but stare at her with his jaw hanging open.
Yeap. She was definitely the strong and crazy type.
As he comprehended everything in his head, he decided to ignore that part about Liz's feelings for him.
Instead, he decided to talk, as even he felt that getting to know her was something worth doing if the case of Liz staying with Will came about.
So, opening his mouth, he started to talk.
