As Liz heard this, her eyebrows raised.
Really? A test?
What if she had chosen to not tell him? Would she have been branded as someone who wasn't suitable?
She almost asked Will this question, but she controlled herself, as she knew that it might not be something he knew about.
Instead, she just said, "I guess I should be careful about what I say, then."
Seeing her frown a bit, Will hastily replied, "Don't get them wrong. If you had kept it a secret, it wouldn't have established anything. Like I said, it's casual, and I don't really know why they do it either."
"That's all right. I'll just ask them."
As Liz said this in a strong tone, Will sighed and said, "I really think Mama Dorota will like you. She always used to say that a girl should have a backbone. You definitely have a lot of it. I'll see you in the morning."
Liz was still thinking about something, so when she heard this, she only nodded and absentmindedly said "Good night," before smiling briefly at Will and entering the door.
Will's eyes followed Liz, and it seemed like he wanted to say something.
However, after a few seconds, he chose not to and left.
Liz first walked to the balcony to clear her head. She had been absent-minded because she didn't like that she was being 'tested'.
She took this relationship very, very seriously, and the fact that someone doubted her and wanted to see what kind of woman she was through means like these irked her to no end.
Asking her directly was one thing. She would happily answer if that was the case, but she just didn't like this manner.
Walking back out after breathing in the sea breeze for a few minutes and calming down, Liz closed the door but remembered the expression that had passed across Will's face when she had bade him good night.
Crap!
'Way to go, Liz. He's your boyfriend, but he doesn't even get a kiss on his cheek after that amazing day he gave you? Congrats on that by the way. I bet you two would never have progressed to this stage if it weren't for that woman, so you should thank her.'
With the return of her inner voice, Liz realized what she had done wrong.
She looked towards both ends of the corridor, but it was empty.
She knew that Will was in the room beside hers, but its door was open, and there was no one inside.
Sighing with slight regret, Liz decided to definitely make it up to him tomorrow before going back to her room.
First, she would obviously have to get through this girl's night, and she had some choice things to say about getting 'tested'.
The bathroom was as big as her bedroom in her previous house, and there was a large bathtub to one side.
After taking a relaxing bath, Liz put on jeans and a t-shirt before a soft knock sounded on the door.
As she opened it, she was greeted by the warm smile of Mama Dorota, who was holding a tray with a few covered dishes.
"Good evening, Miss. Elizabeth! Can I come in?"
In response, Liz nodded, and the elderly maid walked inside followed by Keren who looked like she was munching on a Snickers.
Holding out the bar to her, she asked, "You want one?", but Liz only shook her head and closed the door behind them.
Keren frowned slightly when she saw Liz's odd behavior, but she didn't say anything.
However, she did walk up to Mama Dorota and whisper something in her ear.
After locking the door, Liz put on a determined expression on her face before walking towards Mama Dorota and Keren.
Both were standing in the middle of the room, and as Mama Dorota opened her mouth to say something, Liz cut her off and started to speak.
"I would like to say something first. Mama Dorota- I mean, Miss. Dorota-"
"Call me Mama, dear."
Liz nodded, but didn't lose her flow.
"Mama Dorota, first of all, thank you for what you did. I am new to relationships, and it is almost like William is, too, even though Keren said before that he had a girlfriend and that she hurt him in some way. I don't know when that would have gotten resolved so clearly if it weren't for your intervention. However, I want to say that I do not appreciate being 'tested'. You know what I am talking about. If you want to know something about me, please ask. Right now, I can tell you that I am not the sort of woman to keep things from my …boyfriend without knowing why. You just have to take my word for it, because if you put any more 'tests', I will definitely ask to leave. I am sorry if I'm being rude, but it was really jarring for me to find out that I need to pass 'test's set by anyone to be with someone I like."
Saying all this with almost a single breath in a tone like iron, Liz heaved slightly.
Except for a tiny change in tone when she said 'boyfriend' as she wasn't yet used to saying it out loud, her speech had come out like she had rehearsed it in her head.
She had expected various reactions, but she definitely didn't expect Mama Dorota's response.
"I know, dear. And I'm sorry. That's what I wanted to say. This test was only a silly thing, and it was for those fake people that usually 'fall' in love with those like William and Keren. You, are clearly different. In fact, you remind me of me. I learned of this test from my mother-in-law. You know what I did when I found out? I went to that woman and made it clear that I wasn't a mule that needed to be tested before being bought-just like you. Miss. Elizabeth, again, I'm sorry. I said it before, but I'll say it again, and this time, I mean it even more: You are the perfect match for our cute William!"
