As Liz heard this statement from Luke, she couldn't help but recall some of the darkest memories that she had stored away in the deepest parts of her brain.
Luke seemed to be recalling them too, as his brows were furrowed while his eyes were more serious than ever.
After thinking for a while, she nodded.
Neither of them wanted to dig into the dark past of how Luke had acquired the diner, but she knew that he wouldn't take no for an answer, as she really had played a large part.
"That's fine, but you need to be the majority stakeholder. You are the brand, after all."
This made Luke chuckle, as he knew that she was joking.
He was just a random guy on the road who happened to own a diner, so talk about him being a 'brand' was just farfetched.
However, if Keren's plan worked out, that wouldn't be the case.
"Majority stakeholder in what?"
As Luke and Liz heard this question, they turned to the door to see that Will had entered.
They had been too absorbed in their own things to close the door after Keren had left, so the man had been able to enter without alerting them.
"In Keren's plan to invest in Luke's diner. She hasn't told you?"
"Oh? No. I just know that she sat up all night doing something, which is very uncharacteristic of her. She loves her sleep, and I don't remember her sacrificing it for…anything, for that matter."
Raising an eyebrow, Liz looked at Luke, saying, "Shows how much you mean to her. When is your next date, anyway?"
At this, Luke blushed crimson before coughing and fleeing the scene, saying, "I just remembered that the bread I put in at the diner must be ready! Bye!"
Before she could say anything, he was already out of the door.
With her mouth open, Liz shook her head, wondering why Luke was being so shy.
Was something wrong? Was it possible that things weren't as she had imagined them to be?
Although this vague doubt came in her head, she shoved it as there was no real reason for her to think in this way, except for a very, very vague gut feeling.
Seeing Will walk over and take Luke's place, she discarded this line of thought, right when he leaned over and kissed her cheek.
If that were all, it would have been normal.
However, after kissing her, he leaned towards her ear and whispered, "Good morning. I couldn't sleep all night, you know, wondering what could have happened if your little brother hadn't walked in…"
This time, it was Liz's turn to blush crimson, as she recalled those hot moments that had happened just two storeys above where they were sitting.
Right at that moment, Mary appeared from the bedroom, which made Liz turn around hastily so as to cover her blush.
"Will! When did you arrive? Hmm, where's Luke? He said he would stay to help me with lunch?"
"Good morning, Miss. Mary. Just now. He just left, he was saying something about bread that he left in the oven in his diner.", Will answered in a casual tone, as if he wasn't the one who had just been whispering naughty things to Liz.
Surprised, Mary raised both of her eyebrows before saying, "Oh? That's odd. He told me he had decided to close the diner for today. Something about repairs. Well, anyway, care for some toast?"
"That would be lovely."
As Liz heard this, she realized that he really had run away.
Well, that was definitely odd.
Still, she attributed it to the fact that this was the first girl that Luke had ever been with, so maybe his shyness was just…off the charts.
Meanwhile, Will was rifling through the file, while a doubt struck Liz.
"Wait…Keren said that this she spoke to you? And that you were planning to make me a Director of Operations? And that this would be my first project to direct when that went through?"
When he heard this, Will first froze and frowned, before grumbling for a bit under his breath. Then, he replied, "Oh, that's classic Keren. I did tell her about the first part, and I was going to surprise you with it. That's why I came here, now. Seems that's no longer on the table. Anyway, I didn't say anything about the second part, but I bet she would have come to me later to have it happen. It's not that big a deal. She often does this: she declares something, and then makes it true later. So, what do you two think? Will you do it?"
Chuckling, Liz realized that that did fit right in with Keren.
Before answering, she took a deep breath and shook her head before saying, "I don't know. I think Luke might want to, but-"
"What's there to think about? I know what you two dreamed of when you were kids! You wanted to build something you could call your own to shut up everyone who teased you, saying that you were worthless! Why are you hesitating so much now when you have the chance?"
As Mary came to hand Will a plate with breakfast, she said this as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
This made Liz remember that they really had those dreams once, but they had placed them away when the reality of life hit them.
Could it be possible that they could make them come true now?
Liz didn't even dare to think of that, yet, she couldn't help but feel excited.
Noticing this, Will said, "So a mother does know her children the best. She's right. Just do it. Keren once took a failing hotel and made it into a world-renowned casino, you know. She won't let you down, and I bet you two won't let her down either. Besides, the fact that you were appointed as a DOO has riled up many people who think you don't deserve it. You can shut them all up using this opportunity!"
