Thoroughly sickened, Liz shakily got off the bathroom seat, her head buzzing with confusion and disgust.
In her entire life, she had to agree that she had never seen anything this sick.
Why was this woman having sex with some guy she had shown her own husband, and why had her husband even approved of that?
And above all, why the hell was she screaming her boyfriend's name?
Holding her head in her hands, Liz tried to make sense of the situation.
However, no matter how much she tried, she couldn't understand.
Whatever was going on here was at another level of abhorrence that she couldn't even comprehend.
Soon, the sounds died down, before panting replaced them.
As even that cut off, the stall door opened, and Liz heard heavy footsteps leave the bathroom.
Realizing that only one pair had left, she waited, and a few seconds later, she heard the sound of heels as a woman walked down the bathroom doors toward her.
No. Don't come here. Stay away. Stay away!
In a completely befuddled state, Liz could only think like this while hoping that she would wake up from this nightmare.
Yet, when she heard a knock on the door of the bathroom stall she was in, she understood that it was all real.
"Had a good show, Miss. Elizabeth? I certainly did. Come out. Or were you hoping that you could hide in there until I left? You can't hide forever, you know."
Hearing this, Liz once again shuddered with revulsion, remembering that sight and those screams.
Yes, she really couldn't hide in here forever.
Melissa's voice seemed to have broken the spell on her, as she managed to stagger to her feet, before anger started to fill her mind.
True, she didn't know much about what was going on, but the truth was that her boyfriend's name had been soiled after being uttered by this woman's mouth.
There had been many instances in Liz's life when she had allowed anger to control her actions, and this was one of them.
In anger, one's mind always worked faster.
So, quickly, Liz made the connection.
This woman had seen Will and lusted after him, but realizing that she couldn't have him, she had chosen someone else.
Still, while doing the act, she must have been imagining the man who had become so dear to her, which was why she had been screaming his name.
Putting two and two together, Liz's anger reached a peak.
This bitch dared to lust after her boyfriend and even imagine having sex with him!
No!
With a bang, Liz kicked the bathroom door open, startling Melissa who had had a confident smile on her face till now.
With her experience of getting into a lot of street fights, Liz knew how to handle both men and women.
Without hesitation, her hands reached Melissa's neck before she squeezed, choking the woman and making an expression of alarm and fear appear on her face.
Keeping her hands on her neck, Liz pushed her back, making her stumble as both of them moved towards the wall before Melissa was slammed onto it.
As an expression of pain appeared on Melissa's face, Liz finally let up her grip on the woman's neck before screaming, "How dare you lust after Will? He's my boyfriend! MINE! YOU BITCH!"
As her voice echoed through the room and scared Melissa even further, the latter finally seemed to understand that she had messed with the wrong woman.
She had been in situations like these before, but never had anyone physically abused her like this with anger.
Figuring out that she was in a very precarious situation, Melissa dropped her act and spoke in a pleading voice.
"I'm sorry! I can't help it! Please stop, you're hurting me! Stop, and I'll explain everything! Please!"
As Liz heard Melissa begging, some sense finally seemed to return to her enraged mind.
Removing her hands from Melissa's neck where they had left bruises, Liz kept breathing heavily while glaring at her, making it clear to her that a single misstep might cost her a lot.
"Talk. Tell me what that circle is that Mr. Benson was referring to.", she said, and even her voice seemed to terrify Melissa, as she scrambled to find words to explain.
"Ok, ok! The Circle is a group of extremely rich and influential people where love has no meaning! There's only lust! People marry for political or financial reasons, and we sleep and lust after whoever we want, whenever we want! I've always admired William, and seeing him in person today, I couldn't resist! I'm sorry, it won't happen again! Please let me go! I promise I won't tell anyone what happened here!"
As the mystery was finally revealed in front of Liz, her eyes widened with incredulity.
She had read about and seen things like these in scandalous magazines and movies about the uber-rich, but she had never imagined that it could be true. She had always thought that it must be an exaggeration. Surely, something so disgusting couldn't exist, right?
Feeling even more sickened than before, Liz looked at Melissa with aversion, before deciding to get a few more of her questions answered.
"Why did you come to the door and ask me to come out? What did you want to tell me? Why didn't you stop when you saw me looking?"
"Th-that…you might not like the answer…"
Bam!
Without caring about anything, Liz punched the wall right beside Melissa's face with rage.
Melissa could feel the wind hit her face, and she knew that if that fist went through her face, her most prized possession would be lost, and she would become worthless.
So, more terrified than she had ever been in her life, Melissa answered, but as she spoke, pity, sadness and regret seemed to get added to her tone, while tears started to appear in her eyes.
"I-I wanted you to see. Because I was envious of you. But I also pitied you. I wanted to tell you that even if Will treats you like this now, later, he will become just like us, and you will just be a mistress…like me. Mr. Benson married me because of my looks, and this is my life now. I wanted to tell you that you will be the same. People with no background like us are always subject to this fate. First, it's all fine. There are costly gifts and sweet gestures, and you start to believe that you will have a beautiful life with an amazing man. Yet, when families and soceity enter, everything will change. We will never have a happy ending. We will always be outcasts. I wanted you to get out when you could. William is with you now because he sees something in you, but that will always not be the case. Men will change. That is true with all men, but with these men, who have the world at their fingertips, it is all the more evident. He will change, and you will be trapped, just like me. If you were smart, you would get out now while you still have the chance, and stay far, far away."
