MCAB – Chapter 229.3
The next day, the two woke up almost at the same time. Unlike Jun Zishu, though, Tang Qianqiu didn’t look too well, and she couldn’t help but massage her forehead after sitting up.
“What’s wrong? Does your head hurt?” Jun Zishu asked out of concern.
“I’m good.”
Tang Qianqiu had a nightmare last night. She dreamt about chasing after someone in front of her, and this person was none other than Jun Zishu. However, amid her chase, Jun Zishu suddenly vanished.
“Should I give you a massage?”
Tang Qianqiu originally wanted to refuse the offer since she wasn’t feeling particularly uncomfortable. However, she didn’t wish to miss such a good opportunity to deepen her relationship with Jun Zishu. Coupled with the nightmare she had last night, she hesitated for a moment before eventually nodding her head.
Jun Zishu’s massage skills had already reached a masterful level. Of course, this wasn’t because it was a skill Jian Qing possessed. Instead, it was a skill Jun Zishu had developed throughout the various mission worlds.
Jun Zishu applied just the right amount of pressure on Tang Qianqiu’s forehead. The massage was incredibly comfortable, and Tang Qianqiu couldn’t help but close her eyes to enjoy it.
Several minutes later, Tang Qianqiu felt the symptoms of her headache disappearing. Grabbing Jun Zishu’s hand, she said, “Thank you. I feel much better now.”
“No need to be so polite with me, Mom. I’m just doing what I should do,” Jun Zishu said, behaving like an obedient daughter-in-law. However, when she tried to retract her hands, she felt Tang Qianqiu’s hand, which was holding onto her hand, applying a little pressure. Then, pretending to look confused, she held Tang Qianqiu’s hand and gently shook it, saying, “Go ahead and wash up first, Mom.”
“Are you going to get up so early? Not going to rest a little longer?” Tang Qianqiu asked, hoping she could spend a little more time in bed with Jun Zishu.
“I don’t feel sleepy anymore. By the way, will you be heading to your company after breakfast?”
“Yes.”
“Can I go with you? I don’t want to stay at home.”
Tang Qianqiu naturally wouldn’t refuse a request from Jun Zishu. Not to mention, this request was in line with her desire to remain by Jun Zishu’s side for as long as possible.
“Of course.”
Afterward, Jun Zishu walked out of the room and had the servants bring her a new set of toiletries. She also had them begin preparing breakfast.
“Do you want Chinese or Western cuisine for breakfast, Madam?”
“Western. You can start breakfast preparations a little earlier tomorrow. We’ll have Chinese cuisine tomorrow.”
“Understood.”
Tang Qianqiu wore a black suit for work as always. The clothes were well cut, the pants perfectly outlining her long and slender legs. Upon changing into her work clothes, she exuded a rigid and powerful aura.
Jun Zishu was dressed more elegantly than professionally. She opted to wear a beige dress that gave her a gentle and modest appearance.
After getting dressed, the two sat at the dining table and quietly ate their meals. Neither of them was the type that liked to chatter during a meal. So, the gentle clashing between metal utensils and porcelain plates became the only sound that filled the dining room for a time.
Once Jun Zishu was done with her food, she took a mouthful of milk and wiped her lips with a napkin.
…
When Jerry saw the woman who followed his boss into the car, he couldn’t help but widen his eyes in shock.
Did his boss suddenly gain a daughter-in-law complex?
Was there a need for Tang Qianqiu to stay with her daughter-in-law all day and night? Was she afraid that her daughter-in-law might fall down a staircase again?
Jerry had many questions he wanted to ask, but he kept all of them to himself. Instead, he began reciting Tang Qianqiu’s work schedule for the day.
Tang Qianqiu’s schedule was fully packed with not a single minute wasted.
Jun Zishu couldn’t help but sigh ruefully when she learned of Tang Qianqiu’s schedule. Tang Qianqiu was in the same situation as she was in her original world. Back then, she would either be signing off on paperwork or attending meetings all day, every day. However, while it might seem as though she had thoroughly occupied her life with things to do, her life back then couldn’t be any emptier.
When Tang Qianqiu arrived at the company building, everyone in the lobby paused to look at her. However, Tang Qianqiu did not stop to greet these people. Instead, she walked straight to her exclusive elevator with Jun Zishu by her side.
After the two left, everyone resumed doing whatever they were doing before.
“The boss actually came to the company?”
“The boss is so elusive. This is the first time she has set foot into the company in two months.”
“There’s no helping it. The boss is too busy. She has many things she needs to manage.”
“Who’s the pretty girl walking by the boss’s side just now? Could it be the boss’s younger sister?”
“Who knows? I’ve never seen her before. But she is quite beautiful.”
“Younger sister? Nonsense. That’s the boss’s daughter-in-law.”
“What? The boss is so young, yet she’s already married and has a son? Moreover, her son is already old enough to have a wife?”
“It seems you guys don’t pay attention to gossip at all. You’ll know if you just ask around in the company. Do you remember the subsidiary branch’s manager? The one who used to work here before. He’s the boss’s son.”
“But the boss doesn’t look like she’s older than 30. Did she have an early pregnancy?”
“It’s an adopted son.”
“Why did the boss bring her daughter-in-law here, then? Shouldn’t she bring her son instead?”
“Alright, stop chatting and hurry to your offices.”
…
Tang Qianqiu was naturally unaware of her employees’ gossiping. She was currently seated inside her office and ready to start the day’s work.
Meanwhile, Jun Zishu sat on the comfortable leather sofa and pulled out her phone.
“Will you feel bored?” Tang Qianqiu asked. She didn’t have any forms of entertainment in her office, so she worried that Jun Zishu might get bored.
However, Jun Zishu simply shook her head and waved around the phone in her hand.
“Let me know if you want something to drink.”
“Okay.”
Jun Zishu had explicitly come here to keep Tang Qianqiu company. It was the same in the previous mission worlds. They would often keep each other company in the same space while doing their own things. Even if neither of them spoke, they wouldn’t find the situation awkward.
Not to mention, Jun Zishu didn’t really have anything to do since the original owner was nothing more than a wealthy housewife. Rather than do nothing at home, she might as well spend her time staring at Tang Qianqiu.
Meanwhile, after hearing Jun Zishu’s response, Tang Qianqiu nodded and went to work.
Tang Qianqiu seemed to have a lot of work to do. Her secretary had knocked on her office door a total of four times during the past half an hour, bringing in a stack of documents every time.
Jun Zishu frowned at this sight. If Tang Qianqiu kept dealing with such high-intensity work, her body would collapse sooner or later. Although the original storyline never mentioned what would become of Tang Qianqiu’s body later on, Jun Zishu couldn’t help but worry that she might suddenly die from overwork.
Setting her phone aside, Jun Zishu walked over to Tang Qianqiu’s side and picked up one of the document folders. Then, after briefly reading through the documents, she put down the project proposal.
“Can you understand it?”
“Mhm. I studied this for my major in university. However, I ended up getting married not long after working in my family’s company. Then, my family got into an accident.”
Jian Qing wasn’t particularly good at work. She was just at a barely passable level. After all, she was a girl born into a wealthy family. Even if she didn’t pay much attention to her studies, she wouldn’t have to worry about food and clothing.
With Jian Qing’s capabilities, she definitely couldn’t understand any of the project proposals here and determine whether a project was good or not. However, that wasn’t the case for Jun Zishu.
Jun Zishu had no intention of hiding her abilities, either. The Jian family’s company had already gone bankrupt and disappeared a year ago, so nobody knew Jian Qing’s actual standards. Even if Jun Zishu performed outstandingly, nobody would suspect her of anything.
Meanwhile, after hearing Jun Zishu’s answer, Tang Qianqiu picked up the project proposal Jun Zishu had set down and gave it a quick read. Then, she set it aside and said, “Tell me your thoughts. It doesn’t matter even if you miss the mark.”
Tang Qianqiu felt that her occupational disease was acting up. However, if Jun Zishu was interested in this field, she would be delighted to finally have a common topic between them. If Jun Zishu’s interests leaned more toward the fashion side of things, she’d have no way to have a conversation with her.
“The general concept of this project proposal is good, but some places seem immature. Although it seems that this proposal has already been modified a few times, there are still some parts that can use modification…”
Jun Zishu spoke her thoughts while resting a hand on the desk.
When Little Fairy saw this scene, she suddenly remembered that her host had also been a workaholic in her original world. Although Jun Zishu had already lived through multiple reincarnations without living such a workaholic life, it seemed that not much had changed about her original nature.
However, Little Fairy couldn’t help but despair when she saw Jun Zishu and Tang Qianqiu discussing work. Rather than work, she’d prefer if the two discussed love instead. Moreover, Jun Zishu already knew about Lord’s identity, so why was she talking about work instead of trying to push Tang Qianqiu down?
Jun Zishu’s excitement grew the more she talked. Tang Qianqiu’s company was involved in a wide range of industries, and Jun Zishu had more or less been involved with these industries back in her original world. Although the state of their respective companies was different, the market they operated in was similar.
“You have an excellent talent for business. Why have you never made use of it in the past?” Tang Qianqiu asked, her eyes full of joy and praise as she looked at Jun Zishu. She also couldn’t help but feel a little proud knowing that the person she liked was such a talented person.
“I used to find these things troublesome.”
“If you’re willing, you can come work by my side and be my assistant,” Tang Qianqiu said,
“But don’t you have an assistant already, Mom?”
“Jerry has a lot of responsibilities. He has mentioned to me more than once that he wants someone to share his workload with him.”
“Do you only have one assistant, Mom? I thought you would have several of them.”
“I have two. The other one is called Tom, and he’s in charge of matters abroad. Tom has also mentioned that it’s high time I find a third assistant, but I’ve never met one that I like. Will you consider the position, Qingqing?”
Tang Qianqiu had always felt that the most meaningful thing in life was work. However, after meeting Jun Zishu, she realized that staying with Jun Zishu was much more meaningful. If she could work with Jun Zishu, wouldn’t that be the best of both worlds?
“Sure, so long as you don’t mind me. I will definitely work hard,” Jun Zishu said, nodding without hesitation.
…
When Qiu Ziqian came downstairs for breakfast and failed to see Tang Qianqiu or Jun Zishu, he asked a nearby servant, “Where’s my mother?”
“Madam and Young Madam have already had breakfast and left for work.”
“When did they leave?”
“Around twenty minutes ago.”
“Wait. Are you saying Qingqing followed my mother out?”
“Yes.”
Qiu Ziqian’s expression sank. He simply couldn’t understand what Jun Zishu was trying to do.
He found that Jun Zishu had become a lot more sharp-tongued ever since the accident. If it were in the past, she would’ve never talked back to him.
In addition, Jun Zishu’s behavior of clinging to his mother confused him greatly. If she didn’t wish to continue living in this household, was there a need for her to continue fawning over her mother-in-law?
What confused Qiu Ziqian even more was that his mother was actually treating Jun Zishu so well. When they got married, his mother hadn’t taken more than a glance at his wife.
Qiu Ziqian couldn’t figure things out, so he decided to stop thinking about it completely. After having breakfast, he left home and made his way to his company. Bai Yuwan had sent him a message previously saying she would visit him in his office later to discuss their collaboration project further.
…
When Jerry came in to deliver documents, he was surprised to see that Jun Zishu was also browsing documents.
“Jerry, Jian Qing will be your new colleague from now on. She will act as my assistant and share your and Tom’s burden. Make sure to inform Tom about this.”
“Yes, Boss. Should I report this to HR?”
“Naturally.”
“Okay.”
Jerry was someone quick on the uptake. When he heard Tang Qianqiu’s words, he quickly understood what his boss was trying to do. So, when leaving Tang Qianqiu’s office, he couldn’t help inwardly give Jun Zishu a thumbs up.
This was the right way to be a daughter-in-law of the Tang family. In the Tang family, rather than cling onto Qiu Ziqian, it was much better to hold onto Tang Qianqiu’s thigh.
If Tang Qianqiu did not give her permission, there was nothing Qiu Ziqian or his mistress could do. The Tang family would never recognize their relationship.
Jun Zishu wasn’t aware that she had already become a capable daughter-in-law in Jerry’s mind. She was simply trying to get close to her mother-in-law for the sake of getting close to her mother-in-law. Everything else was of little consequence to her.
With Jun Zishu’s help, Tang Qianqiu’s workload was greatly reduced.
The more Tang Qianqiu learned about Jun Zishu, the more satisfied she was with the girl. No matter how she looked, Jun Zishu was great at everything. Jun Zishu had good looks, a gentle personality, and strong working capabilities. Yet, despite marrying such a wonderful wife, Qiu Ziqian didn’t know how to cherish Jun Zishu. Since that was the case, she wouldn’t mind taking this wonderful girl off her son’s hands.
[Bai Yuwan is going out for lunch with Qiu Ziqian, Host.]
Which restaurant did they make a reservation at?
After Little Fairy reported the restaurant’s name and address, Jun Zishu put down the documents in her hands and said, “I’m hungry, Mom. Let’s go eat.”
“Okay. What do you want to eat?”
“There’s a restaurant I visited previously with good food. I’ll go and make a reservation.”
“Okay.”
After getting Tang Qianqiu’s agreement, Jun Zishu pulled out her phone and called the restaurant Little Fairy mentioned to make a reservation.
…
TL Notes:
Fyi, Jerry is Tang Qianqiu’s assistant, not secretary. The secretary mentioned in this chapter is a different person.
In case there are people like myself who didn’t know about the difference between an assistant and a secretary:
Administrative Assistant vs Secretary
The main difference between Administrative Assistant and Secretary is that an Administrative Assistant has many other job responsibilities than being on a desk full day and answering phone calls while on the other hand, the job responsibilities for a Secretary are mainly to be on the desk and performing some memos, updating job profiles of different employees, etc.
