[16/150 mins until Dao dies 2:30 after entering the Challenger Gem]
For the Demons, they only saw a Demon girl with crackling horns that were covered in glowing red liquid from the neck down running at them.
And then they didn't.
An arc of lighting connected the fifteen Demons, and then they were blown back, and many others were knocked off their feet, but the girl was gone. Demons called down the line that they were under attack, and the others started to come and assist them as the call ran down the line.
"Do you think we should attack?" One unicorn horned demon asked, and then one with two horns on each side of his head shrugged, but then a burning stick landed on the ground.
The demon with the dual horns walked over to step on the burning stick to put it out.
Back over along the barricade that Jilly and Lizy created, Lani was throwing sticks from her back to the Cerberus girls but was worried. These sticks would need to be touched to be set off, and Lani wasn't sure just how likely that was going to be.
Unfortunately, the other Demons that had come to attack had no commanding officer and many of the stronger, not smarter types. Explosions of red, green, and blue explosions started to go off in a chain, and Demons started to scatter.
It would take them over an hour to return to assault the village, but they could not do anything or get close. The Chiton barricade Jilly had created prevented them, and the Steel Silk stuck and sliced and one that tried to get close.
While this happened, back on the beach, Lidy, Clesh, and the three remaining grandmothers were standing at the edge of the beach. They watched the sisters as they played in the water, completely oblivious to everything that was going on.
"Would be nice to be as carefree as them, wouldn't it?" Fairilese asked as she held onto Frieda's arm, the oldest next to Nixi.
Frieda's horns were a smaller version of Lidy's, only half the size, with black hair. Both she and Fairilese shared hair color and the fierce beauty of an amazon, but with five-inch horns curving up from her forehead.
"Like the girl said, things are about to change, and we will finally get to go back. Then we will all be killed," Perdita said with a tired expression as she sighed.
Lidy knew that was not going to be a case, and if there was any person in this world that could take them home. The light of the memories had hit her and the other Demon women, and now she knew that he had somehow found her sister, Hanna.
"No, that is not how it's going to be, and you all know that he is different. I was able to stop myself with him, and even after everything, he still came and made up to me! This man is not normal, even for a Hero, and we have seen all the jokers, male and female, that have come through. They all left the first chance they got, and that was usually after the first day," Lidy explained.
"You're not wrong, but this is more than just about Listeria killing us! If we return, she will lose her position, and the Scourge might just decide to kill her and all of us just because," Noels said as she looked out over the rolling waves and focused on nothing.
Her green hair and Elvin features made her look severe, but she was one of the kindest and thoughtful of the five. Clesh and Mex's mother were standing alone off to the side and just out of earshot from the others.
"Am I just supposed to watch him screw her?" Clesh asked as she looked out over the water, pushing strands of her red hair like Perdita's behind a down-turned horn that was similar but not as severe as Nushi's had been.
"No, you gave him what he needed, and he is just tossing you to the side like the others. Take his offer, and offer yourself to take your side with Kazz; you know Mex offered him the same thing. The two of you were never more than another one of Nixi's Matches, and soon we will be something new," Perdita said as she turned from the water to look at Clesh, her horns running down the back of her head, laying flat.
"He always has my Daughter and Lidy; there is no reason that he will want anything to do with another creature like me. I have barely even talked to him other than in passing, so why would he want to take me as one of his own? Kazz could just use me as he likes when we sign ourselves over to him, so it's pointless to even think about it," Clesh said, but it was hurting her as she did.
Before that man showed up, Clesh had been okay with her life and had been terrified for most of it. Now, this was different, but things really hadn't changed.
Instead, her fears of Nixi were replaced as she watched her daughter become happy for once in her life. Even her long-time friend Lidy who had killed many men, had to stop herself.
Why? Because of the strange blood and saliva-covered man that had walked into the Keep that day.
"I think you need to give Kazz more credit than that, and I think that he will surprise all of us! Look at our stomachs and the possibilities that he told us would come. I think that we just need to keep working on what we can do. When we are on the boat, you are going to be spending a lot of time with him, right? You will be his communication and surveillance to see around the boat, so maybe the two of you can get some time alone?" Perdita asked with a knowing smile, and despite herself, Clesh blushed, having forgotten about it.
