When Ru Shi came back from work, she took the books that Mr Yan gave her,
The books were;
Drawing the Head and Hands by Andrew Loomis
Drawing on the Right side of the brain by Betty Edwards
Figure Drawing: Design and inventions by Michael Hampton
How to draw what you see
And several others.
All these books provide extremely detailed instructions on drawing. Many of them would be taught in high level art schools but he wanted her to use only one week to read everything.
She sighed because she knew the task was difficult, but she did not dare to be scornful, so she immediately began to read the books.
When Mu Chang came back from the company, he saw that the food in the dining table had not been touched.
"Where is she?"
The cook frowned, "Miss is still studying."
When Ru Shi came back with those books, he was a little worried.
How could someone finish all those books in one week?
Mu Chang frowned when he heard her.
After that he turned and walked straight upstairs.
In her room, Ru Shi was still reading the first book.
She had picked the simplest one but it was still very difficult to read, let alone remember it.
After returning from school, she had been reading. It is now a few hours later but she had read just a few pages.
Mu Chang pushed the door and saw her sitting at the window with her head bowed, reading a book.
On the side of the table, he saw a high stack of books.
He didn't expect that Yan Lao would give her so many tasks on her first day.
He frowned as he walked over.
"I have begun to wonder if it is a good idea to let Yan Lao tutor you."
When Ru Shi heard him, she looked up.
"Why?"
"You haven't eaten yet."
Ru Shi looked at her watch and saw the time. She was shocked.
"I didn't even realize that it was that late!"
He reached out and took the book from her hands and put it aside.
"You know Mr. Yan is a famous painter and you invited him just to teach me. I can't disgrace you plus I've to seize this opportunity.
"I know, go and eat first, then come and read later."
Just after eating, she hurriedly ran back.
A few hours later, Mu Chang knocked on the door.
"Come and sleep."
Ru Shi looked up and saw Mu Chang on her bed. He looked a little funny on the pink bed.
"What are you doing?"
"Putting you to sleep," he replied as he waved at her.
"Come on, don't let me come and pick you up."
Ru Shi looked at the few pages left and hesitated.
When Mu Chang saw the hesitation on her face, his expression became grave.
"Come, I'll help you".
"How can you help me?"
"You come over first".
Ru Shi stood up and walked over.
When she reached the bed, Mu Chang stretched his hand and pulled her to the bed.
Ru Shi stared at him.
Mu Chang covered her eyes with his palm.
Ru Shi was full of doubts but she still listened to him and slowly closed her eyes.
The moment she closed her eyes, she heard Mu Chang's voice.
She has to say he sounded s.e.xy with his English accent.
"Before getting technical, feel your subject out, for gesture, character, action and willingness of a place of importance. Take yourself as being one of the characters, perhaps the main subject, whatever and whoever that maybe. Imagine your place, your stance, your reason for being and ask yourself, where would the next character......"
The low voice continued.
After a while, she accompanied the voice of Mu Chang and slept.
After reading all the remaining pages, Mu Chang closed the book and felt that her breathing had slowed down.
He removed his hand and saw that she was already asleep.
He kissed her forehead gently and left the room.
Over the next few days, Ru Shi was busy learning the books that Mr. Yan gave her.
Every day she would avoid Mu Chang but once he came back he would look for her and send her directly to the dining room.
In the past few days, Ru Shi had changed her hiding place but still Mu Chang would find her.
"Ru Shi, why are you always reading these weird art books and avoiding me huh?"
Since yesterday, she had been going to the library to read these weird books.
"Well, I now have an art tutor and in order to pass his test I've to finish these books. You know how I love art. Now that I've got the chance to study it I've to seize it!. Don't worry when I finish we go out," Ru Shi said as she looked at her.
"Well, OK I won't bother you again. You better pass."
Ru Shi smiled as she said, "I will!"
After one week, Ru Shi visited Yan Lao. She was full of confidence.
Yan Lao stared at her, as he raised his tea pot.
*********
" Lets do the fifteen chapters of how to draw what you see".
Ru Shi nodded and started reciting.
After a while, he raised his hands and stopped her.
"You wait".
He picked up the book and turned to the page he has just said.
"Start again."
Ru Shi did not complain as she started to recite all over again.
He frowned and let her repeat several times.
He then changed the book.
He frowned as she was able to recite everything.
"Are you cheating?"
"No, I really learnt everything by myself."
He furrowed his brows as he stared at her.
How could she finish everything in one week? Don't these rich girls like to waste their time partying and going out?
"Well, I'm impressed. Congratulations from now on you're my student."
Thankfully Li Mu did not disappoint him. If the person had been a lazy person he would not teach him.
"So you'll come here on weekends since you have school on weekdays. Don't be late."
Ru Shi smiled when she heard him.
"Thank you for giving me the chance. I won't let you down."
"Good," Yan Lao said as he smiled softly at her.
