“Look! Look! Xiaonian has become the tyrant of the family!” Bai Xiaonian’s father pointed at his daughter, smiling vibrantly.
The atmosphere in the ward was unprecedentedly good.
Bai Xiaonian’s father’s cerebral hemorrhage and Bai Xiaonian getting injured—this layer of fog that had been cast over the heads of this family—dissipated due to the warmth in the room.
Later, using the excuse of changing the dressing for her injured legs in three days’ time, Bai Xiaonian kept her father company in the hospital for three days. Finally, under Lu Jinnan’s soft and tough tactics, after eating dinner with her father on the third day, she left the hospital to go home and take a shower, as well as to rest properly for a day.
These few nights, Bai Xiaonian and Lu Jinnan were squeezed on the same accompanying bed, so neither slept well. Especially Bai Xiaonian, who in her pregnancy initially slept well but was more afraid of the heat. The weather was gradually getting hotter, yet she didn’t dare turn the air-conditioning too low, so Bai Xiaonian naturally felt uncomfortable.
After returning home and taking a shower, while lying on the comfortable large bed, Bai Xiaonian, who had said she was going to wait for Lu Jinnan to come back and wash up before sleeping together, ended up falling asleep before that.
Lu Jinnan, who came out of the shower, saw Bai Xiaonian sleeping sideways on the bed with her head resting on her arm.
Lu Jinnan subconsciously smiled. He wiped his hair with a towel, then walked to Bai Xiaonian’s side, bending over gently and retracting Bai Xiaonian’s arm from under her head. He put her arm under the blanket and sat down next to the bed, gazing at Bai Xiaonian, who was breathing evenly.
Lu Jinnan very much treasured the happiness he had now. He knew that regarding Hong Jinyun’s matter… Bai Xiaonian had made the greatest concession possible, showing the greatest tolerance.
Putting himself in her shoes if, after Bai Xiaonian married Lu Jinnan, she continued to sponsor her pitiful ex-boyfriend Lu Jinbei, he probably wouldn’t be able to take it…
Lu Jinnan held Bai Xiaonian’s hand and gently planted a kiss on the back of it.
In terms of handling their exes, Bai Xiaonian was more clear cut than Lu Jinnan…
Regardless of whether Lu Jinnan’s brother Lu Jinbei had betrayed Bai Xiaonian or whether Lu Jinnan had an unforgettable love with Hong Jinyun, an ex was an ex.
Now that things had come to this point, whatever guilt and pity Lu Jinnan had felt towards Hong Jinyun ended when Hong Jinyun’s mother went to look for Bai Xiaonian’s father.
Lu Jinnan recalled a chat show Bai Xiaonian went on as a guest in the US, where they talked about the trendiest international topics currently. The show host had asked Bai Xiaonian about America declining to help Country F despite several pleas from the latter to help… They asked whether it was overboard of the superpower America.
Bai Xiaonian said… that she personally agreed with America’s way of handling this. She likened this to asking for help from a neighbor upon seeing that the neighbor was richer!
But she was a selfish person because she felt that this was everyone’s first try at being human, and everyone was still trying to make sense of things, so who had the extra time and effort to sympathize with others?
Furthermore, the neighbor started spreading malicious rumors about the rich neighbor being unkind and unhelpful instead of trying to better their own life after being declined help. She despised such behavior. She hoped that everyone could understand… that regardless of whether it was a person or a country, it was no one’s duty to help another party! This was a world where the strongest survived, not those who had reason on their side simply because they were weak.
Lu Jinnan recalled that, back then, more youngsters agreed with Bai Xiaonian’s speech, whilst the older generation deemed Bai Xiaonian’s opinion as being too selfish.
But come to think of it now, Lu Jinnan felt that what Bai Xiaonian said was right…
Since everyone was still trying to make sense of things, who had the extra time and energy to sympathize with others?
Lu Jinnan reached out, initially wanting to touch Bai Xiaonian’s fair and pretty face. However, he was afraid he would wake her up, so he retracted his hand, simply gazing at her gently.
Bai Xiaonian was truly exhausted, so it was the best sleep she had since she got pregnant. She slept all the way until 10:40 the next morning.
When she woke up, she saw Lu Jinnan sitting by the bed, gazing at her. Bai Xiaonian narrowed her eyes and reached out to hug Lu Jinnan with a smile, resting her head on his lap. “What time is it now?”
“It’s 10:40. Are you hungry? Want to eat something?” Lu Jinnan tucked Bai Xiaonian’s stray hair behind her ear.
“It’s 10:40 already!” Bai Xiaonian opened her eyes, her vision turning towards the closely drawn curtains before she quickly sat up. “Why didn’t you wake me up? I promised Old Bai that I would bring him breakfast!”
“Don’t worry, I’ve already asked my assistant to go over!” Lu Jinnan held down Bai Xiaonian, who was anxiously getting to her feet. “Dad asked you and his little grandson to have a good rest, to take your time. You can go over in the afternoon to take him his dinner.”
Bai Xiaonian still wanted to say something, but Lu Jinnan had lowered his head and edged closer to her tummy. He asked softly, “Little baby, did you have a good night’s sleep last night?”
With his ear pressed against Bai Xiaonian’s stomach, Lu Jinnan listened earnestly, then nodded. “Okay… Dad will tell Mom this!”
Bai Xiaonian couldn’t help but smile. She asked, “What did he say?”
“He said that he slept very well, but he hoped Mom would rest well too and not be so nervous. This way, he and Grandpa won’t feel so worried!”
Bai Xiaonian merely smiled and said nothing, an inconcealable bliss in her eyes.
Lu Jinnan stroked Bai Xiaonian’s hair and held his hand around the back of her neck, saying softly, “But… a pregnant woman’s emotions really do affect the fetus. Xiaonian, don’t be so nervous. Dad’s fine now, so leave the other matters to me. I’m your husband, and you can depend on me, alright?”
Bai Xiaonian nodded. She relaxed and leaned against the head of the bed. “Okay…”
“Think about what to take Dad in the afternoon. What does Dad like to eat?”
Bai Xiaonian lifted her spirits up and said several things her father liked to eat. Lu Jinnan reported this to the nutritionist and asked the latter to prepare things according to Bai Xiaonian’s father’s current condition.
In order to cheer Bai Xiaonian up, after eating breakfast with her, Lu Jinnan took out the DIY handicraft puppet materials Bai Xiaonian was previously planning to make for their baby.
Bai Xiaonian widened her eyes at the sight of the handicraft materials. “I hid them so well, yet you managed to find them!”
Lu Jinnan smiled and placed the materials on the coffee table, sitting down on the carpet. “I tried to talk you out of it before you bought it, saying that you surely wouldn’t have the patience to complete it, but you didn’t believe me!”
Bai Xiaonian’s ears reddened a little. Lu Jinnan did try to talk her out of it, saying that she didn’t have that kind of patience, that in the end she was bound to dump it aside and decide on buying one for the baby instead.
Seeing Lu Jinnan open the materials bag and hook the thread through the needle according to the instructions… Bai Xiaonian hid her smile behind a book, revealing a pair of bright, smiley eyes.
Bai Xiaonian, who was in a splendid mood, took a photo and uploaded it to social media…
[Bai Xiaonian: He’s capable at work, great in the kitchen, and he can also make handicraft toys for the child. Mr. Lu is incredible! Mrs. Lu has fantastic taste!]
