He glanced out the car window and realized it was Tianfu Bay. He frowned and looked at Lin Nuan, who was unfastening her seat belt.
Uncomfortable with his penetrating gaze, Lin Nuan unfastened her seat belt, paused and said, "It's not safe for you to drink and drive, now that you're safely home, I will book a ride home and turn in early."
She didn't address him formally as 'Mr. Fu' but used the word 'you' instead, it was a significant improvement on Lin Nuan's part.
"You were concerned about me driving after a few drinks?" Fu Huai'an asked while unfastening his seat belt.
Lin Nuan gazed at Fu Huai'an, and his piercing eyes were locked on hers. His gaze was unfathomable and yet somewhat affectionate.
In the silence, she could sense her heartbeat quickening.
Across the console, Fu Huai'an's distinct profile and prominent features closed in on her, his sharp brows framing his deep-set eyes. The whiff of alcohol combined with his arresting masculinity, manly sophistication, and steady charisma, made her shy and lost—especially when he was gazing so intensely at her.
Lin Nuan leaned back intuitively, lowered her eyes, and remained silent.
"I haven't eaten anything yet. Come join me for a quick bite," Fu Huai'an said casually and got out of the car instantly, there was no chance for Lin Nuan to reject.
Lin Nuan mentally worked out the time and pondered whether it would be too late to book a ride home and if it would be safe so late at night.
Sensing her hesitation, Fu Huai'an placed one hand on the car door and the other on top of the car, bent down and said, "I will get the chauffeur to send you home after we've eaten."
Feeling assured by his words, Lin Nuan nodded, got out of the car, and went into the house with him.
It was late and knowing that Fu Huai'an and Tuan Tuan wouldn't be home, Auntie Li had already tidied up the place and left.
There were vegetables in the refrigerator, and the meat was kept in separate containers in the freezer.
Lin Nuan stared at the contents and reckoned she should stick to what she was best at cooking—noodles. While Fu Huai'an took a shower, Lin Nuan churned out two bowls of tomato egg noodles. The noodles looked pretty good, and she was sure that it would be tasty too.
Fu Huai'an came down just as she was putting the noodles into the pot of boiling water.
Under the bright lights of the open kitchen, Lin Nuan held her hair up with one hand and with the other, she was stirring the noodles with chopsticks. Hot steam billowed up all around her face, clouding her delicate and beautiful features.
She placed the lid on the pot. Lin Nuan was annoyed with her hair, but she didn't have a hair tie with her. She combed the drawers beside the refrigerator, hoping to find something she could tie her hair with.
Fu Huai'an entered the kitchen.
Thinking that he was there to press her, Lin Nuan loosened her grip on her hair and said, "The food will be ready soon, do you mind having noodles?"
"Okay!" Fu Huai'an answered. He walked towards Lin Nuan and stood behind her, clasping her hair. His warm fingers brushed against the tips of her ears. Her hands tensed up, and she wanted to turn around to tie her hair on her own.
"Don't move."
Fu Huai'an took out a hair tie from nowhere and tenderly tied Lin Nuan's hair into a low ponytail.
"This hair tie belongs to Bai Jinyu. She left it behind the other day after hanging out with Tuan Tuan."
Lin Nuan could hear Fu Huai'an's rich and deep voice ringing beside her. She was in a daze before realizing that Fu Huai'an was explaining the situation to her in case she misunderstood. She flushed with embarrassment.
