If it had nothing to do with the show, then the only thing they had in common was Fu Huai'an.
Lin Nuan clutched her phone and told Chu Xun's assistant that she would be there after she made a trip to the restroom.
Lin Nuan was not at all prepared to be discussing Fu Huai'an face to face with Chu Xun.
She stood at the sink as she scrubbed her slender fingers with soap, wondering what Chu Xun would want to say to her.
Lin Nuan prepped herself mentally as she rinsed her hands. She took two napkins to wipe her hands, threw them into the bin, took a deep breath, and walked towards Chu Xun's office.
…
Chu Xun had her arms crossed and was standing in front of the French window, looking out at the endless stream of traffic at the entrance of the broadcast building.
She recalled seeing Fu Huai'an sending Lin Nuan to the broadcast building that morning, as she sat in her car, observing them. Through the window, she clearly saw Fu Huai'an and Lin Nuan kissing in the car.
Chu Xun sank her nails into the steering wheel.
She hadn't been bothered by the many women fantasizing over Fu Huai'an as she knew that they wouldn't be able to get anywhere near him. Chu Xun didn't even mind when Su Manman told her that Fu Huai'an liked Lin Nuan.
That was because Chu Xun knew that Lu Xiangsi still occupied a place deep down in Fu Huai'an's heart.
A man would never forget the woman that he couldn't have.
Chu Xun felt that was how Lu Xiangsi was to Fu Huai'an.
Yet, the sight of Fu Huai'an sending Lin Nuan to the broadcast building so early in the morning suggested that they had most likely spent the night together.
The thought of Fu Huai'an and Lin Nuan being intimate agitated Chu Xun to no end.
Lin Nuan knocked on the door. Chu Xun snapped out of her thoughts, lowered her hands that were crossed in front of her, and said in a crisp voice, "Come in."
Lin Nuan walked into the office, leaving the door ajar.
Chu Xun walked to her desk, raised her eyes to look at the partly opened door, and told Lin Nuan, "Close the door properly."
Lin Nuan took two steps back and shut the door. As she turned around, she saw that Chu Xun had picked up a ladies' cigarette box and was holding a cigarette adeptly between her fingers. She held the box up towards Lin Nuan and asked, "Want one?"
"No thank you, I don't smoke…" Lin Nuan said with a smile.
Chu Xun was wearing a light green V-neck silk blouse and a gray pencil skirt while her long hair was tied into a ponytail. The image she portrayed was capable, chic, and feminine. It was a far cry from the tough and demanding career woman vibes she gave off when she first joined the company.
Chu Xun gazed at Lin Nuan as she laid the box down. She put the cigarette to her lips and lit it with her lighter.
Then, she put down the lighter, leaned against her table, and took a deep puff. Amid the smoke, she looked at Lin Nuan and asked, "Do you know Fu Huai'an well?"
Chu Xun wasn't going to beat around the bush with Lin Nuan.
It was probably because Lin Nuan had already expected Chu Xun to talk about her relationship with Fu Huai'an that the question didn't come as a surprise. She remained silent while looking at Chu Xun and waited for her to continue.
Chu Xun pulled over the ashtray, held it in her hand, and tapped the cigarette ashes in it. "Did you know that there is a dead woman residing in Fu Huai'an's heart?"
Without waiting for Lin Nuan to respond, Chu Xun went on. "Lin Nuan, you aren't a suitable match for Fu Huai'an, no matter the family background or simply just you as a person. You don't understand Fu Huai'an's past and him at present. I have to admit… you are young and attractive, but we all know that these are short-lived and sooner or later, you will not be able to allure Fu Huai'an with them."
