Xia Yangyang was simply too tired yesterday night, and as a result, she had overslept.
But she was certain that she had set her alarm, yet it didn’t ring.
Xia Yangyang straightened her back abruptly, and in doing so, woke up the man who was fast asleep next to her.
He muttered grouchily after being woken up, “Why are you fussing so early in the morning?”
Flustered, Xia Yangyang replied, “It’s 8:00 a.m. and I’m late for work!”
She had wanted to get off the bed right away, but Gu Qichen pulled her back.
He wrapped his arms around her and drawled, “Since you’re already late, lay with me for a while more.”
Despite her unwillingness, Xia Yangyang didn’t dare to say no.
Gu Qichen closed his eyes and seemed to have fallen asleep once more. She inched away from him slowly as she tried to silently escape from his arms.
Who knew that Gu Qichen would suddenly open his eyes when she was about to succeed. His voice was a little gruff and hoarse. “Xia Yangyang, has anyone told you that it’s dangerous to be a wriggling worm early in the morning?”
Before Xia Yangyang could react, a strong arm grasped her and pinned her underneath him.
When Xia Yangyang reached the office, it was 9:30 a.m.
Xiaoman scurried over and asked, “Yangyang, why are you so late today?”
A series of passionate images appeared in Xia Yangyang’s mind and she flushed red.
Xiaoman commented, “Why is your face so red? Are you having a fever?”
Xia Yangyang hastily brushed it off. “My pet is simply too clingy and I couldn’t leave.”
The minute she finished, Xia Yangyang rubbed her arm. “The President is here.”
Xia Yangyang spun around and saw Gu Qichen walking towards her. When he reached her, he paused slightly and tilted his head to look at her.
Xia Yangyang held her breath and hoped fervently that he hadn’t heard her.
Gu Qichen entered his office and Lu Xiaoman let out a sigh of relief. “When President Gu was looking at you earlier on, I thought that he would summon you to his office to lecture you again. Yangyang, you’re lucky that President Gu is also late today.”
Of course Gu Qichen would be late as they came to work together.
Fortunately, when Xia Yangyang got out of his car just now, no one saw them.
Lin Yuanyuan was right beside them and overheard Xia Yangyang and Lu Xiaoman’s conversation. “Yangyang, you have a pet dog? What breed is that?”
Xia Yangyang was stumped for a second before she blurted, “A poodle.”
If Gu Qichen were to know that Xia Yangyang had likened him to a poodle, he would never let her off.
But Gu Qichen should be too busy right now, as he would be going for a work trip in the afternoon.
Before he got on the plane, he texted Xia Yangyang. ‘Going on a trip to Tokyo for three days.’
They had been secretly married for three months and Gu Qichen traveled at least half of the time. However, he would always inform Xia Yangyang no matter where he went.
Xia Yangyang’s internship was about to end in a week.
She only hoped to spend the remaining days peacefully so that she could return to school.
Who knew that the next day, something bizarre happened.
Many people had crowded around Xia Yangyang’s desk when she stepped in.
She strode over and saw a huge bouquet of roses on her desk.
Her colleagues remarked enviously, “Yangyang, who sent you this? There are 99 rainbow roses and it’s equivalent to three months of our salary. This guy is way too generous!”
Xia Yangyang was also feeling baffled when she noticed the card.
Her expression fell instantly after reading it.
She grabbed the bouquet and dumped it into the dustbin.
No one could figure out what happened. One of her colleagues whispered, “Yangyang, is that from your boyfriend? Did you argue with him?”
Another colleague said, “If my boyfriend were to coax me with 99 rainbow roses, I would definitely forgive him.”
Xia Yangyang didn’t explain and no one dared to probe further.
She seemed out of sorts the entire day until the moment she spotted Lu Haotian’s car outside the company building.
