Seeing that he had remained silent, paired with the guilt evident in his gaze, a wave of disappointment washed into Yun Xuan's heart. Great.
Just when she started thinking that 'third time is a charm'. Those were his own words but they mocked her at the moment.
Lin Ye knew that he was in deep trouble once he saw that kind of expression on her face.
He didn't lie... he indeed didn't want to tell anyone about his recovery because he was hatching a plan. Of course, that was one reason and perhaps the main. But how could he admit that he had started getting scared that once she found out he no longer needed his help, she might leave his side?
Considering the current situation, their relationship would only sour if he strived to keep his pride. So he gently asked, "Xuanxuan, be honest with me. If I didn't get injured, would you stay by my side?"
Yun Xuan didn't know why he was asking and didn't think about her answer. "No."
Lin Ye clutched his ċhėst. "Did you hear that?"
"What?"
"My heart just broke."
Yun Xuan rolled her eyes disdainfully. Wasn't it he who had asked her to be honest? The truth was that if his accident happened at another time, she wouldn't have cared half as much.
It was only because it had happened when he was on his way to see her that she had felt guilty about it.
Even if she started developing some intimate feelings towards him, it couldn't change the fact that she initially only stayed with him because she felt indebted.
Yun Xuan yawned slightly. She was so tired that her vision was starting to get blurry from sleepiness.
Lin Ye was about to say something else but he sighed instead. "I'll let you go to sleep then."
Yun Xuan stood up without saying anything else and went upstairs, leaving behind a heartbroken Lin Ye. He didn't say it in the end.
He also wanted to talk about how there were only two suspects for what happened to Yun Feng earlier, his father and Tyler, but he knew that it wasn't the right time to talk about that kind of matter with her.
He also knew that although many women would become more upset if their boyfriends stayed away after a disagreement, Yun Xuan was the exact opposite. She was the type who would prefer to have her personal space for a while and forcing her to spend time together might only make things worse. He could only bite his tongue and wait.
Since the little boy was currently scaredy, she picked him up from Xia Rou who was playing with him and slept with him on her bed.
...
The next day, the warm sun rays seeped into the room through the thin curtains and awakened Yun Xuan.
She stretched her limbs and got out of bed. The little boy was still asleep so she took the opportunity and freshened up then went downstairs to make breakfast.
In truth, she didn't need to do anything. The maids had already cooked for her and the little boy. Xia Rou had gone to work and so had Lin Zhou.
When she went back upstairs, the boy had woken up and was playing on the bed. She bathed him and fed him breakfast then let him play by her side as she read through her work appointments for the day. She realized that she only had two of then today and they were both scheduled late in the afternoon.
She wondered whether there was anything she could do to pass time.
Well, she could watch a few shows on television, read books, listen to music or simply just play with Yun Feng. It was just that everything seemed to be boring.
Could she really say everything was boring, or was it simply because a certain person was not in her vicinity?
Yun Xuan slapped her forhead at the thought. She knew he must be waiting for her to go over, as she usually did when she was not busy.
She also knew that he must have investigated and found out the reason behind that psycho maid's behaviour. She really wanted to know.
However, she just couldn't bring herself to go over.
Meanwhile, Lin Ye stared at his innumerable messages that had gone unreplied.
He initially wanted to let her calm down on her own but knowing her personality, how could he not be anxious?
She might come around in one hour, one day or a few days, but she might also never forgive him.
With a sigh, he took his car keys and drove towards the Lin residence. It would be great if he got to see her and speak to her. But if she sent him off, he wouldn't know what else to do.
...
Yun Xuan decided to pass time in the garden, watching Yun Feng who was trying his best to run on his short legs that were slightly chubby.
Although he could fairly keep his balance when walking, that couldn't be said about his running.
When he made those minute 'quick steps', he looked too funny and cute. Yun Xuan didn't forget to capture that moment on video.
As expected, he tumbled over and fell a few steps later. Luckily ever since they moved in, the garden had been strictly taken care of so there wasn't anything that could cause harm. The ground was also covered with a layer of artificial grass.
In fact, that fall looked rather cute and Yun Xuan couldn't help laughing.
The boy chuckled cutely too, then stood up on his own using a lot of effort, before looking up at Yun Xuan with his bright eyes. "Ma-ma!"
Yun Xuan's mind went blank.
What did he just say?
Seeing that his mother was in a daze and was not reaching to pick him up, the boy called out once more before sticking his arms out.
Yun Xuan swept him into a hug, almost on the verge of tears. "You spoke! You finally spoke." And it wasn't just part of his blabbering. He actually meant "mother" when he said "mama". She held the suddenly curious boy against her ċhėst. "I was starting to worry that you would have problems with speech or even..." she didn't want to say those words. She would overthink it sometimes, that it was of autism, despite being reassured by the pediatrician.
This was the scene Lin Ye witnessed when he arrived.
