Episode 195- Skin you alive and feed you
"D, Don't come near me! You monster!!" The man scrambled out of the way but there was nowhere he could run to. When Eugene had thrown him, she didn't throw him to the side, but rather, she threw him over herself which was why he thought she was still out for him
"First btch, now monster?" There was laughter in Eugene's voice as she stood above him with her head tilted to the side.
"Ah! AH!!" The man screamed as he looked around for help. He was scared. Completely scared of Eugene! Her eyes that looked at him reminded him of the guild leader who had the same look in his eyes before he killed someone. It was a gaze that looked at its prey before killing them.
"Please! Please don't kill me." He rubbed his hands together as he apologized and begged.
"This place is a poor area," said Eugene suddenly as she glanced around. They only had to walk 10 steps to reach the slum. And before she walked in, close by to the building, she saw people sitting on the ground looking dejected at their empty bottle of alcohol. There were also some people who wore tattered clothes.
"H, huh?" The man did not understand where Eugene was going with her reference until he heard her next words.
"Hn." Eugene nodded, "The people would most likely be happy if I were to skin you alive and feed you to them right?" Her lips curved up into a smile, however, no matter how beautiful she looked with a smile on her face, her eyes weren't smiling and they were simply staring at him. This look on her face made him lose all control of his bladder that had leaked from terror. The smell of his piss wafted through the room quickly making everyone but Eugene cuss at him.
"I… I'm human!!!"
"What's wrong with humans?" Eugene countered as if she couldn't comprehend his reaction, "They taste just like three-day-old meat." What she said about the taste was true. In her previous life, she had been given meat and she ate it without hesitation when she saw her family eating it as well. Later, she would come to find out that what she ate wasn't animal meat but human meat.
If she had been younger, she would've been disgusted at herself. However, because she simply didn't care about anything at that point in time, she ate it again because it was the only form of meat given to her.
The second everyone heard Eugene's response, they stepped back again. Their hearts trembled in fear of what they just heard and no one knew what to do or how to the esteemed noble in front of them anymore. Naturally, the rude man whom this conversation was directed to already had his eyes rolling back and fainting on the spot.
Eugene didn't care what anyone thought of her words and simply walked towards the man in front of her.
"Let's go."
"...Yes, customer." The man hesitated at first but brought Eugene to the room.
The man made Eugene sit on the couch first before sitting opposite of her.
"My name is Riel, I am one of the best merchants in this guild. Lady mentions that she needs information. May I ask what information Lady needs?" He introduced himself and went straight to the point.
From her aura and how she kept to herself, he knew that Eugene was not a commoner and was most likely an aristocrat. And though he knows that Eugene was born to an aristocratic family, he didn't think that she simply belonged to that higher social class. From her build, to her fast movements when she brought a man taller and bigger than her down, she showed that she had a lot of experience in martial arts and was comfortable with it as if she used it daily.
The custom of the guild was to ask for payment before any information was given, however, because he knew that she was not from the lower class, he skipped that step.
Eugene scanned across his face very carefully as if she was wondering whether she could trust him with whatever she was going to say when Riel spoke first.
"Whatever is said in this guild will never go out. No one will know what requests Lady has given to us, nor will anyone know what information is presented to you."
Eugene stared at him for a while before she asked, "I need information on the large group of people who disappeared and appeared in Herrow today."
".... Excuse me?"
"I need anything on this group. There were one, max two adults in the group after their reappearance. Group of children with green eyes who might possibly wear contacts to hide their identity. The children do not express emotions. They suddenly disappeared from town, and then suddenly reappeared."
Riel was silent for a good minute. His facial expression was serious and he asked, "Does Lady know anything about this group of people?"
Eugene's eyes narrowed down and she analyzed Riel's expression carefully. All she could tell from his expression and his words were that he knew something about the group or had some suspicion over the group that had disappeared and appeared again very suddenly. If he didn't know anything, he wouldn't have replied to her with a question.
She chose to ask this question first because this situation is something that is very eye-catching and suspicious. Not to mention, a small group of adults bringing along groups of children with them.
Like Eugene, Riel understood from Eugene's words that she knew something relating to the group which was why she wanted information on them.
"There has been no request to find information on this group however we found the group to be suspicious and investigated them first. Because this is not confidential and no requests have been made, there is no policy that our information will be kept a secret after we provide this information to Lady."
The man spoke in such a roundabout way but Eugene understood his meaning roughly. One, he wants her to give him the information she knows. Two, this information will not be kept a secret.
Eugene thought for a while before asking, "Do I pay to get information?" This was her money-saving radar reacting and asking.
"...." Riel blinked. He looked as if he couldn't comprehend what he just heard from an aristocrat Lady, however, he nodded, albeit slowly. If the information was mutually shared and of equal importance, no one has to pay anything.
"No." Riel shook his head and answered.
Eugene nodded, "Then you will give me whatever information you have first. After that, I will decide how much information to give you."
"... Yes." It should normally be Riel's job to say what Eugene said, however, he agreed anyway. From her words, he understood that Eugene has a lot of information about the group.
"The group appeared in Herrow one week before they left today. Because the town is small, everyone knows everyone's location and knows what everyone is doing. Which was why everybody knew that the group did not come out of the lodge today and felt suspicious.
A manager of this particular guesthouse went in to check on the group, however found out that everyone disappeared. Naturally, the manager assumed that everyone had left the previous night when suddenly the group appeared again three hours later from inside the building."
Eugene nodded, 'This was when they went to the Veria mountain. If it took them three hours to appear, that would mean the teleportation time took roughly an hour.'
"The guild has been suspicious of the group ever since they came to Herrow and had them investigated immediately."
"Suspicious of?"
"When the group first arrived in Herrow, there was only one adult accompanying groups of children." He answered before continuing,
"The group had been traveling from Lelips. They came from a harbor in Lelips, which means they are not from this continent. This was confirmed by a guild in Lelips whom we have close ties to."
As soon as Eugene heard that she was alarmed. She assumed that the organization was going to hide in a base in Xenperia. But, with this information, it was possible that the organization was going to take Euria out of this continent.
Eugene exhaled loudly, 'I have to get her before she leaves this continent.' Preferably, she retrieved Euria back before she left Xenperia.
Riel saw Eugene's hardened expression and studied her carefully. He could tell that Eugene didn't just know information about the group but even came across them and had some form of conflict. As to what conflict it was, he didn't know. Before Riel could ask for information in return she turned back to him and asked,
"Was there anything else about them that was suspicious? And do you know how long it will take them to get to the harbor of Lelips?"
